Was it a mistake or experiment em?

ememem84 · 03/07/2017 21:40

We were supposed to have courgette meatballs but he couldn't find breadcrumbs in Tesco. And wasn't wearing his glasses. The soy mince looks like breadcrumbs.

It was ok actually. I have a bit of an issue with quorn mince so was sceptical about the soy stuff but so far so good. The issue with quorn is that it bloats me out and makes me do super huge man farts.

Also about £3 for about 800g I think. The amount he used was enough for 4 portions. So he thinks 16 dinners from £3. Not bad.

mammymammyIRL · 03/07/2017 21:48

That's reason enough to have issue with quorn Grin

SunnyLikeThursday · 03/07/2017 21:53

We're having a good-ish sort of time here. I'm still sorting out camping stuff, and looking forward to actually going.

We've figured out that ds is going to have to have a general anaesthetic to have a tooth out, so I have to organise that next.

LonelyOversharer · 03/07/2017 22:06

Good luck sunny my ds had a ga to have his non-enamelled teeth out at 2.5. It was horrific - not being in hospital as such, they handed me a groggy ds (who I promply breast fed, the dental nurses were Shock but I was overwrought), and basically said, go home. He was an emergency that they fitted in between two planned full extractions. Dp is still traumatised. At least your ds is a bit older and you can explain it better to him.

Dp wouldn't notice if I had a bin bag on. We're good friends though.

em we toast up left over crusts of bread, blitz them and keep them in the freezer for breadcrumbs. Never had quorn, always suspected my innards would rebel against it!

All dc are still awake. Guess it's my turn upstairs...

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 03/07/2017 22:17

Em Grin

Water meters are such a pain, I am borderline obsessive about water usage in this house, that said I am expecting the bill to go up as have been showering more and watering the garden a bit....

Mammy £90 pays for three days childcare Shock dd will finish with the cm at the end of term. I'm lucky in that my parents will help out a lot over the hols and I can take two weeks annual leave. Plus this year my mum has paid for dd to do a week at tennis pro coaching.

Sunny not nice to have a general anaesthetic but needs must I guess, bet your ds is excited at the prospect of camping!! We are going camping in August, am quite daunted by the thought of it - dd can't wait Grin

SunnyLikeThursday · 03/07/2017 22:40

Lonely Sorry to hear that. Definitely traumatic with a little one. My ds had to have a GA at 14 mnths and 2.5 years and we're still not over the trauma ourselves. I'm hoping it will be better at 7 years old. At least he will know what to expect this time. tbh I'm just grateful to have the tooth out without him having to be awake while it happens.

MeadowHay · 03/07/2017 23:10

My neighbours downstairs are being sooo noisy this evening!! Their kids are running about screaming at the top of their lungs every 15 minutes or so, doors keep slamming, and dad has been shouting and singing intermittently for the last two hours! Shock Luckily when DH is tired he just falls asleep straight away and can sleep through it. I'm going to have to put ear plugs in when I go to bed as the noise is horrendous. I feel sorry for their kids because they must be so over-tired (three kids aged 5 and under! and they normally go to bed around this time each day as we can hear them even though the eldest is at school!). Shock

DH has another job interview! For a nursing assistant position, so better pay too. But so far it's scheduled for 5pm when he's meant to be in work over here for 8am the next morning and given we don't drive that's not doable so hopefully they can move it to earlier in the day or something at least Confused.

Sunny I have never had a GA before. I find the thought of them scary tbh. DH has had one as a teenager when they took his appendix out.

Em I'm not a big fan of mince of any sort, but out of the various ones I've had, my favourite is soy, and that's the only type I buy now for us although we only eat it rarely (DH adores bolognaise but I'm not that fussed on stuff with mince). It's very cheap and good for us storage-wise as you keep it in the cupboard in a tiny packet so hardly takes up space and don't have to worry about it going off or anything. I use it when we make bolognaise or lasagne.

AuditAngel · 03/07/2017 23:14

Hello all. £156 Tesco shop, £1 for 2 waters for kids at dancing (another mum collected them for me as I worked in Hertford, DH is rubbish at reminding them to sort out drinks to take).

£10.99 for birthday gift for my niece.

Need to get out cash as going to concert tomorrow evening. Got to pay for ticket (£6.50) plus travel. So excited, going to see Alexander O'Neal

Cagliostro · 03/07/2017 23:37

I realised on Tesco you can now buy chorizo mince. I'm not convinced, I like nice chunky bits of chorizo in stuff :o

No idea how much actual useful stuff I've ordered but there's quite a bit in the freezer. And in any case I bought bacon, waffles and maple syrup so I don't really care about anything else! :o

Cagliostro · 03/07/2017 23:38

I shall have to google Alexander O'Neal. I feel like the name is familiar. Enjoy the concert!

lifelongfrugaleer · 04/07/2017 06:13

Wreck Grin. I don't jump anyway, or do jacks as I have a weak pelvic floor.
£8.64 in Aldi
Soy mince just doesn't sound nice but I may investigate it.
Work today, dance run, gym for piloxing tonight.

mammymammyIRL · 04/07/2017 06:19

My words with dh have had some effect, he text in the early hours that he'll be home this evening if I want to go to bootcamp Grin woohoo that means instead of walking out half way through I get to do full & I got to stay in bed longer this morning. Although his text woke me at 4.10 so I've been dozing fitfully since Sad

northender · 04/07/2017 06:43

Haven't posted for a few days but have been trying to keep up.
Doing well frugally at the moment, will post properly tonight after work.

WreckTangled · 04/07/2017 06:58

Mammy that's a good idea I will speak to dh about it (this is all if Dh gets the pay rise he wants) if we did that then we would be in the same position financially as we were before I got my new job and before Dh got his [hypothetical atm] pay rise. So we know we can do it.

Girlie would a financial advisor not just tell me to stop going on holiday so much Blush

Ds also had a GA at 17 months. It was awful when he woke up, he screamed and screamed and screamed. Until I gave him some quavers Grin

Cag yum! Actually I have maple syrup and bacon if I get some eggs I can make American pancakes...

Today I have three schools to go to this morning so will need to put more petrol in the hire car which is annoying. Will just put £10 in.

ememem84 · 04/07/2017 07:03

Best sleep ever last night. My new Fitbit arrived yesterday so have started tracking sleep again properly.

needastrongone · 04/07/2017 08:47

Mammy I haven't heard to Richard Howey. But don't take that as any great declaration of advice, I'm really cynical of diets of any sort tbh. Other than fueling for training. I eat as clean as possible, everything in moderation, slightly more carbs than the average person I suspect due to training. Protein for muscle repair. Is yours for weight loss or training then I can probs help with the latter. x

DS had 2 GA's when small, one emergency and one 'elective' (if you can at 6/7!!). Played it very low key both times, showed no stress, even though the first was VERY stressful indeed. It seemed to work but very much an individual thing, in terms of the child and the parents.

I've had a few GA's with my back. I quite liked the break tbh GrinGrin

Grin at the quavers Wrecked.

Right, on a mission today, 3rd load of washing on, brownies in the oven, Uni open days agreed with DS and in the diary, floor to mop and car to clean out (it's proper minging). Then I'm off for a run!!

Booked a little cottage in Dumfries and Galloway for October half term to go and take the dogs. I'll post spends later though.

Morning all :)

Off to our local nature park this morning with some other families. Was going to give it a miss but DD persuaded me as she hasn't seen one of these friends since Thursday and that's just much too long apparently. :o Will probably get a taxi from town up to the actual park because the walk up from the bus stop will be hell in the heat as it's uphill. Walking round the actual park and then back down to the bus after should be fine though.

needastrongone · 04/07/2017 08:56

mammy. Just adding and I am not in any way saying this is the case with you (you know me well enough by now to know that!) but add in any emotional eating, for WHATEVER reason and food becomes an extremely complex area. Which might be why diets don't always work. We eat for boredom, comfort, anger, control etc. I find the whole thing fascinating but am not an expert in any regard. How's the training going for your HM attempt?

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 04/07/2017 08:57

Totally agree about emotional eating need this has been a massive issue for me since childhood. Starting to get a handle on it over the last few years though :)

Coppersulphate · 04/07/2017 09:01

Decorator is prepping the upstairs bedroom for painting. And it needs a lot of preparation. Wallpaper off, dado rails off. Now the shower screen is in the ensuite it can be decorated and I can have one room finished....well except for the carpet. The previous owners put a second carpet ( of good quality ) over the first carpet but the had it laid around the furniture....how daft is that...is it has to come up.
Changed bank for the freebie money. So need to go and sort things out as I am worried I will be marooned with no money and no bank access.

needastrongone · 04/07/2017 09:05

Have a lovely day Cag.

I agree totally. We invest a lot of emotion in food, for very difficult and challenging reasons (like your lovely self) or for control or even, like DH, who eats for boredom sometimes. I'm not convinced any diet, for whatever reason would work until those things are addressed.

I've only ever been close once, when my parents divorced, I had a bad car crash, my DM was particularly awful, I split up with a long term BF and one other really difficult thing happened (cryptic). All in 4 months. I could only control my diet and exercise and became obsessed. Until I processed all that shit and ate again basically.

And chocolate is bloody good anyway Grin

Bit deep for a Tuesday, I'm off to scrape the brownie bowl out GrinGrin

I'm learning how to commission 3D printing this morning, which I'm quite excited about. From the internet. Yay!

LonelyOversharer · 04/07/2017 09:22

Raining again here. But will venture to Asda.

On food, I watched a (low budget) thing on amazon last night about a guy trying to lose weight by just eating fast food (sort of a reverse supersize me). It was actually quite informative about fats and colesterol. I'm going to eat a bit more protein from now on. It is funny how we have been conditioned to believe that animal fats (which we have eaten for millenia) are bad, and starchy grains (that our bodies process into sugar) are good.

I'm the opposite of an emotional eater I suppose. When I feel out of control I keep track of food, and limit it. Its a complicated minefield! I do find calorie counting quite soothing.

copper I was going to switch banks, but to get the cashback I had to shut my old account down. I'm trying not to use my overdraft, but still want the facility of it! So I opened a TSB account, which if I meet all the criteria each month will cashback me just more than the monthly fee on my Lloyds account. Still waiting on the debit card, two weeks later, so I'm really pleased I didn't opt for a switch as I'd be stuck right now.

LonelyOversharer · 04/07/2017 09:24

x post need! Thats what I mean about the control thing.
