Did anybody watch the episode of Doctor in the House that Girlie recommended? Both ladies who had problems with chronic fatigue-type symptoms were fixed by drastically limiting their diets and the idea was presented as a simple fix with no associated problems. I was glad that they felt better but I did wonder what the ramifications would be further down the road, both psychologically and nutritionally. It's a funny thing, limiting or controlling food for health.

Mummysh0rtlegs · 04/07/2017 09:59

I am managing to keep up with my YNAB at the moment, I seem to be getting it more this time. Each morning I sit and reconcile it against my bank account and I make sure I find the money before I spend it.

I am following Dave Ramsey at the moment and trying to save up six months of expenses, aiming for £8k it's going to take two years. Once that is done we are going to pay off our mortgage. Once that is done we are going to start investing. So in 11 years we should be mortgage free and have a very decent emergency buffer. I'll be 45 and then have some time to build up a decent amount of investment to pay us an income. It feels like a very long way away!

SunnyLikeThursday · 04/07/2017 10:43

That sounds amazing Mummy. Well done. :-) I'm not as organised as that. I keep feeling we ought to be able to save more, but then things are needed, like tents for camping and stuff like that. It's a real juggling act.

I have just been given a cancellation appointment to go to the NHS community dentist with ds tomorrow afternoon. That's step one towards getting this tooth out. Getting it done at the NHS place would definitely be frugal. I have an option of doing it privately too which I suspect would be less frazzling and would involve a more experienced dentist. I wish I knew which had the better safety record and would handle ds more sensitively.

Loveabaconsandwich · 04/07/2017 10:54

£73 in sainsburys Blush . Only £5 of that were birthday presents so no idea how I spent so much! £4.50 off with coupon, I was totally sucked in.

£6 to have my car washed. I've never done something as unfrugal before as we wash our own cars more like don't wash them but I was fed up of the bird poo on it and DP agreed to go to a BBQ on Sunday which was car cleaning time or not

Loveabaconsandwich · 04/07/2017 10:55

Just remembered I bought a £20 voucher for a birthday present so wasn't that bad

Cagliostro · 04/07/2017 14:25

Just got home from the park. Tired and hot but glad we went. Lovely time plus baby meerkats!!! Having a rest now before we are back out for tap class.

CremeEggThief · 04/07/2017 16:42

It's cool and wet up here. NSD. I've nearly got the house sorted now. Just lots of pictures to hang up. Oh and decorating, but it'll be ages before I can afford to do any!

needastrongone · 04/07/2017 16:46

Sometimes needs must Love, and your car is clean now.

Love meerkats.

In my experience I've had amazing consultants on the NHS and privately. I've had bad experiences of consultants on the NHS and privately. Which is no help at all.

Mummy you haven't factored in Uni costs Grin

Spends.
£10 for Bootcamp, me and DD later.
£45 M&S
£70 fuel.

Haven't done my cash withdrawal yet, got a fiver in my purse which can last.

It's warm here. Cloudy though.

My car is back!! £400 excess on dh's credit card. They will write to me in response of my complain within 8 weeks and I'm hoping to get some of that back. They also will refund the £120 that dh's boss paid for the new tyres hoping he will let us keep it Grin the garage have completely cleaned my car inside and out and we now have four new tyres not just two. They also got rid of hat ever sticky stuff the dc had got in the door pockets in the back.

SunnyLikeThursday · 04/07/2017 16:51

I just tried to be clever and weighed out the amount of sugar in 100g of milk, turnip, smoothie, and coco pops, to show ds where tooth decay comes from. It turns out that there is staggering amount of sugar in turnip and milk, which totally defeated the purpose of my illustration. Surprising. I should have been talking about sucrose rather than sugar, it seems.

needastrongone · 04/07/2017 16:52

Cross post - you've done brilliantly to get so organised so quickly Creme. x

Loveabaconsandwich · 04/07/2017 17:15

Well done creme , sounds like you have been working hard

£46 on changing the batteries on our burglar alarm. I swear some bills you have to pay as a grown up are so tedious!

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 04/07/2017 17:19

Hi all, had such a stressful day here the dog seems to have gastroenteritis, so had to get him to the vet pronto plus it was dds induction day at secondary school plus trying to fit work in Grin

Anyway the dog had two injections and some meds to take, my dad and step mum finally turned up this afternoon and took him home thank God am seriously reconsidering my offer to have him for 3 weeks in October!!

Dd seems to have survived her induction day unscathed, although has been watching Dr Who since I got home so not got a lot out of her Grin

Work was some how fitted around everything else, I am owed so much time I don't feel too bad Wink

Now have to go out to an open evening at the new secondary to meet dds new tutor and dd has football tonight

My ddad gave me a load of money though so that was nice Grin enough to pay for the carpet cleaner plus the vet bills and some extra to treat ourselves!!

Interesting chat re emotional eating, I am def guilty of that and also of 'treating' myself, I really don't have any vices (don't drink, smoke, do drugs, buy clothes, go out etc) so the odd bar of chocolate does seem like a nice treat to myself!! I am the heaviest I have ever been now which is 10 and a half stone, would be happy with 10 stone which could easily be done if I reigned it in a bit Blush

Dd has had three GAs, she was in an induced coma for two days just over a year ago due to complications from flu. The worst op though was having the tonsils and adenoids out, it was like something from The Exorcist when she woke up Shock she perked up when the quavers came out as well Wreck Wink

Coppersulphate · 04/07/2017 17:51

Lonely I DID opt for a switch but HSBC have opened a new account for me without switching....probably to avoid paying the switch fee. I have just been into the branch and they are switching my account on Monday. It's chaos really but I am going to persevere because I want the switch money...£150. I have now tried online and been to 2 different branches, one of them twice.
£1 parking...HSBC's fault.

ememem84 · 04/07/2017 18:16

I'm at the pool. With my swim stuff. And I don't want to go now. Sigh.

Class doesn't start for another 45 minutes so am just sat in the car for the moment. in a parent and child space as there were no other spaces available I'm going to be a parent. And will have a child. And have parked in the worst space. To get out of the car I'll have to pretty much climb in a hedge.

SnugglySnerd · 04/07/2017 18:50

Sunny 3D printing is so cool. I don't really believe it works!

Had a really lovely day. DD has been on excellent form. Really sweet and helpful. Spent £6 in the shop on a few bits for lunch and a jar of coffee though.

LonelyOversharer · 04/07/2017 18:52

em use the space! I'll never forget some bloke who had properly big kids tutting at me parking in the p&c spaces (carseat empty, dd1 was in half days). I got out of the car 40+ 9 weeks pg with dd2, I was absolutely huge, and he didn't know where to look! I said "So sorry I need the extra space to get out, you wouldn't have wanted me to dent your door, would you?" And waddled off. I so rarely speak to strangers, but he pissed me off, and dd2 was so overdue and I was a bit fed up!

I spent a whopping £160 in asda. But two tefal pans, clothes for the dc (summer sale on) and lots of non food items. Plus about £30 in meat, so not too bad. And I can bin my old frying pan, which has started to shed it's teflon coating.

£40 topping up dd1 lunch money. She called me from the dinnerhall! I asked her on sunday if she needed topping up, apparently not. I dispair. She will we out in society as a 'grown up' in a scant 4 years...

SunnyLikeThursday · 04/07/2017 18:58

It's weird isn't it Snuggly. I have no idea what I'm going to design to have printed. I must think hard.

lifelongfrugaleer · 04/07/2017 19:25

£7 dance tights

Didn't do the gym. Tired and it's a long week this week with dance show and other stuff.
I emotional eat. I am trying to crack it at the minute but it's defo cyclical too.

Cagliostro · 04/07/2017 19:39

I may have bought more baby clothes.

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/07/2017 19:48

Bacon You have a horrible commute & I don't blame you for wanting a pastry. Waitrose do these. Pain au raisin. You'd just need some paper bags off eBay to transport them to the train. One of them & a travel mug of coffee & you're set to face the day.

Creme your new house sounds fab. You can get all the 7pm markdowns if your that close to an asda.

Copper Email the CEO, that's ridiculous faffing.

NSD.

Is that the Asda markdown time, Fluffy? Cheers for the tip! Smile

ememem84 · 04/07/2017 21:19

Swimming was surprisingly fun. Am properly exhausted now. But have signed up for next week. All in the class we're at roughy my stage. So was good to meet people. Came home for sausages vegetable chips and tea. Yum.

I would say I'm an emotional eater. When I'm sad/stressed/angry/tired I gravitate towards "bad" food. Sweets crisps biscuits cake. Not bad in moderation but I guess I binge a little for the instant gratification.

Same with shopping.

Dh has taken control of my food whilst pregnant. He's a way better cook than I am. So I'm happy to let him. Essentially now I just turn up at the table at dinner time, dinner arrives and I eat it. He does pack ups for us too and every morning since we found out he's made sure I've eaten breakfast. Even when I was feeling sicky sick and he almost had to force toast in me. He made sure I ate well. He's such a keeper.

I mentioned this at work the other day and someone suggested that maybe he was very controlling. He's said though that it's his way of contributing physically I guess to this stage of looking after the baby. He's been there emotionally but he doesn't feel he's "done anything" iyswim (aside from the initial baby making part. He helped with that 😉)
