I think they said it had very poor access for the emergency services too, and that was flagged up during the refurbishment. Awful situation to be in.

We're bashing away here at constant activities. Zooming about from one playdate to the next and stuff like that. Ds was very kind to another child yesterday who came to visit, and I was proud of him for that.

100yearsdotcom · 14/06/2017 12:02

It's heartbreaking. My worst nightmare. So sad for all those poor families Sad

100yearsdotcom · 14/06/2017 12:03

sunny that's lovely of your boy x

Cagliostro · 14/06/2017 12:25

Aww nice one MiniSunny :) Star but remember to keep relaxing HARDER! :o

I haven't had the news on today so have only read bits online about the fire. Just beyond awful. And to know that there had been warnings ignored - unthinkable.

100yearsdotcom · 14/06/2017 12:27

Spends today so far: £15.99 father's day present for DH's first one as a daddy! Smile from next year it'll be handmade by DD all the way though Grin hopefully shouldn't have any other spends today though.

MeadowHay · 14/06/2017 12:42

Hi everyone, sorry haven't caught up, been pretty busy.

The news about the fire is horrendous. This is what happens when profits are put before people!!

Today should be NSD in theory. DH and I are planning to go and volunteer feeding the homeless for an hour or so this evening. I'm struggling with headaches today blergh. Too much wine yesterday evening probably Grin Wine. DH's birthday meal was I think the most expensive meal we've ever had out so far together, makes me feel old lol. It was like £60ish for the two of us. He deserves it though, he works really hard and is working a day of overtime tomorrow too.

Lovely sunny weather here.

Cag I'm gonna go with boy. For no reason.

Em Those gifts are lovely!

I don't really have any frugal news or owt today.

SnugglySnerd · 14/06/2017 13:10

So sad about the fire. So many will have lost everything. Does anyone know if there's a way to donate stuff eg I have a lot of baby bottles that we don't need and some saucepans etc. I'm sure someone there would appreciate them.

Just psyching myself up for the painting.

AdoraBell · 14/06/2017 13:36

A witness on telly said there was a gap between the building and the cladding. He said the fire ran straight up like it was a chimney. Obviously they don't know yet what went wrong.

Am about to go to shops.

AdoraBell · 14/06/2017 13:38

snuggly I don't know if there is yet, other than people in the local area taking things to the shelters. The news, I've had TV on all morning, haven't mentioned anything.

SunnyLikeThursday · 14/06/2017 14:04

Thanks Cag. My plan of relaxing harder is not working out that well. We're running from pillar to post in a constant stream of fun and medical appointments. The medical appointments are helping though and the fun is fun, so that's good. I'm knackered though.

Creme I got a fantastic lesson in pacing from my new car. It has two dials on the dashboard to show me when I am using petrol faster or slower. It always chastises me when I accelerate and gives me a little gold star when I either maintain a constant speed or just coast with my foot off the accelerator. I've been thinking that I could do with taking that advice in my own life too, as well as in my car's fuel consumption.

ememem84 · 14/06/2017 14:05

Just put myself through the pure hell that is a bikini wax while pregnant. Don't do it.

Paid £12.50 for the privilege. 😱😩😵

Other spends today - £2 on frensh squeezed icy cold orange and lemon juice. Mmm. Refreshing.

Saw this just now on FB but no idea how one would donate if not nearby.

Cagliostro · 14/06/2017 14:09

I know what you mean sunny it's blooming difficult to get that balance isn't it? The appointments will hopefully help in the long term anyway.

Good luck with the painting snuggly you're braver than me! I really need to do more arty crafty stuff with the Caglets but frankly my house is messy enough already Hmm Blush

needastrongone · 14/06/2017 14:36

At lot of our work is in fire protection, without going into further detail. I'm struggling to get my around how anything that happened to that building wasn't tested, tested, tested and tested again. And certificates of compliance provided for every single nut and bolt. The cladding was essentially like putting a chimney round those poor residents from what I can see. I might be wrong, but I'm struggling to get my head around what I can see practically. And emotionally without even saying that.

NSD.

There's a link to just giving, there seems to be a few ways to donate.

I've given £30, probably what I would spend on a needless new top.

needastrongone · 14/06/2017 15:18

Obviously that's financial assistance. I'm in Yorkshire. Practically, they are talking about it in Radio 5 at present.

Laska5772 · 14/06/2017 15:32

Inside housing arecsaying that fire stops were temporarly removed when new underfloor heating was put in , however contractor says all was made good and buildin passed all fire safety tests.. I suppose it will all come out eventually .

Cagliostro · 14/06/2017 15:43

Very glad that's been set up, thank you for sharing. These things happen so much more quickly and easily now it can be done online I guess! :)

Got our product testing item today in the post. It's a subscription box - very 'in' at the moment! This one is a box of different sensory toys. Happy Caglets :) I took photos of them opening it as they would like them for their FB page. I'm not sure how much they will be charging yet (start up hence it being so easy for me to offer a review :o) but I would actually consider subscribing if it's affordable. I don't normally do that sort of thing but actually they are both fiddlers and DD chews everything when stressed so the novelty might be a welcome thing each month.

ChristmasSeacow · 14/06/2017 17:21

Sensory toys sound great Cag, DS would probably like that sort of thing. Is it a subscription specifically for sensory toys?

The fire is so horrific, it's everyone's worst nightmare really. I can't imagine how awful it must be for those who lost someone - fire has to be one of the worst ways to die Sad. There are collection points near me (London) but some are already full and turning away donations. Maybe money would be more useful at this stage? I don't know.

Haven't spent anything yet today though I am about to buy some clothes for DS on the ASDA website. Anyone know how the school polo shirts come up for size? I bought him some 5-6 in the Tu sale and they are too big so I thought I'd stash them and get the next size down but they're now out of stock. Not sure whether Asda 5-6 are smaller anyway or whether we need 4-5.

Had a meeting with the school OT today, she was great. And while I was waiting in Reception the head came past and stopped to speak to me - he remembered that I was DS's Mum and said they were looking forward to having him and that he would do really well at school with them. I was so impressed he's making an effort to know all the new kids starting and that he remembered me (I am rather distinctive though, being gigantically pregnant and with bollards for ankles Wink). From there I met a friend for lunch but she paid as I have made her lots of cake recently so that was a bonus.

I worked till 3am, up at 6. Need one last big push on my project today but when I got home the cleaner hadn't been but arrived 10 mins after me. So I have been lolling out of her way while she did the kitchen, heading back to the computer now. It's been lovely to mn rest but I need to crack on if I am to sleep tonight!

Obstetrician tomorrow for The Plan. Exciting.

CremeEggThief · 14/06/2017 17:42

Absolutely horrified about the fire. In fact, I've deliberately avoided the news and spending much time online today. How could such a catastrophic event happen in the 21st century, in our country?Sad

Sunny, try to visualise your car thingy next time you're racing around. Imagine what it's telling you to do. Then do that. I'm quite enjoying not working right now and giving myself time to pace and relax, as those 5 weeks I was in school every day really took it out of me.

Seacow, that's nice that the Head took the time to welcome you. It bodes well for your DS. Is today/tonight when you hope to finish your project before starting maternity leave? I hope you'll get a few weeks to rest, while your DS is at Nursery. It sounds as if you've been frantically busy.

NSD.

Cagliostro · 14/06/2017 18:08

Fab news about the school meeting seacow :) yep this 'prototype' box had a chewy, a tangle, a fluid timer type thing, and 3 other items. I guess time will tell how they'd keep it up really, whether the quality stays etc (am a bit wary, as I've heard about other subscription companies really lowering the quality after a while) and how much it costs. But I think as any fiddly toy will lose the novelty after a while it would be fun receiving something new every so often. So definitely thinking about it. :)

Just saw that one of our town pubs is a collection point, they'll take the items up to London at the weekend (we are in Sussex). Fab :)

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/06/2017 18:48

We got boxes for the 8 kids at our wedding, I thought it was all tat but they all loved them, there were no tantrums or fall outs, the great aunts got to demonstrate cats cradle to the 8 yo & some kids kept them to play with for a year after we got married.

If there half as good as them it's an investment.

I'm still shocked by the fire, I'm cynical enough to wonder how much the lands worth now it's vacant too.

£1.70 postage
£2.50 top up shop.

AdoraBell · 14/06/2017 18:54

£39 spent, £26 of that went in the food bank box. Sounds a lot but I don't often get to the supermarket.

Thanks for that link need

LonelyOversharer · 14/06/2017 18:57

We just had some of the news on while having tea (omelettes again ) so had a chat to the dc about the fire. The sheer terror of being stuck, knowing - breaks my heart.

Went for what turned out to be a 33 mile bike ride. I was totally knackered when I got back! Used 1300 calories apparently! Still staying under 1400 a day, which has cut all the random crap from my diet.

Spent £18 in the coop, but didn't get milk, will have to pop out to sainsburys (nearest shop, 6 miles away) now, so will spend more in there!

Oh I love a tangle cag bought dd1 some about 13 years ago, had to get them shipped from the US as you could only buy them from Hamleys then! How my life has changed! I didn't blink about paying fed ex rates back then!

ememem84 · 14/06/2017 19:01

£57 in jojo maman on maternity knickers (sigh) and a tankini. I'd usually just wear my bikini but am feeling a bit self conscious about the beach this summer.

I had a look around the shops on my way home and annoyingly nowhere sells maternity knickers in my size. Gah.

Oh well. Needs must.
