also a fan of chicken pot noodles here

I really do dislike having people round. I do clean my house, but it just is always is in need of a deep clean due to griminess so this evening I am cleaning, cleaning and more. Cannot wait for our BBQ to be over tomorrow. Which is sad, but my parents are hard work too and you never know what offensive thing DM will say to someone ConfusedHmm it's one of the reasons I don't want a wedding

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/06/2017 19:55

I didn't invite mine to ours.

NSD.

Iris65 · 02/06/2017 20:09

Zero spends today but we have got to buy furniture for our new house:
Sofa
Dining table and chairs
Wardrobes
Garden table and chairs
Also need a lawnmower and general gardening equipment (spade/fork/ lawn edger/trowel)

CremeEggThief · 02/06/2017 20:23

Check out charity shops for furniture, Iris and what about Freecycle or equivalent for gardening equipment?

Cagliostro · 02/06/2017 21:04

British heart foundation shops are good for furniture, lately they have the items like sofas professionally cleaned too :)

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/06/2017 21:12

eBay is good for sofas, wilko do garden furniture.

We bought our table from an auction, everyone comments on it. Home sense are good too.

ememem84 · 02/06/2017 21:44

Agree charity shops are great for furniture or auctions.

We bought a great table for our hallway when we moved into the flat 7 years ago. I'd seen one in a shop (stripped back waxed pine) for about £300. We liked it but not enough to pay that much.

Found our table - super layered up varnished pine for £14. It took me three weekends to sand it back and wax it but it looks awesome now.

AdoraBell · 02/06/2017 23:22

Had a week away on the cheap, borrowed a boat. Mixed weather but just lovely to get away and relax. About £80 -ish on groceries, DH paid, and a few meals out.

Love One of my siblings got married then phoned everyone to update the family on her status (pre Facebook) and we'be given up inviting ILs as they usually find something more interesting to do Hmm

Laska5772 · 03/06/2017 06:30

The song i alwas have puzzled over is REMs Orange Crush . I did hear it correctly it seems once i looked it up
But now have even less idea what its about!
"I've got my spine, I've got my orange crush, collar me dont collar me."
Any idea?

Laska5772 · 03/06/2017 06:34

British heart foundation shops are really good we got a fab sofa a bed and a desk chair for DS when he got his new flat . They were having a sale and sofa was £50 prof cleaned and looked almost new.

Em your colleage was a smart arse idiot .

Laska5772 · 03/06/2017 06:38

Adora sounds great sailing boat? If so im vv Envy indeed as i love sailing live on an isHmmalnd and dont know anyone with a boat!!!!Hmm
But any boat is fab. IMO. Where did you go?

lifelongfrugaleer · 03/06/2017 07:39

Yy to charity and auction. We got a dining suite and mirror for £200 15 years ago. Replaced the table last year and the big mirror is still on my chimney breast.

£50 on dh birthday dinner yesterday. Sainsbury Caterpillar cake is not as good as marks. Too much chocolate cream stuff.

Spendy today as my impromptu and unbudgeted for.birthday weekend away. Ah that's what savings are for.

FizzyOrange · 03/06/2017 07:45

lifelongfrugaleer Hope you have a lovely birthday weekend away Cake

I like the Tesco caterpillar cake - I think it is about £6. I have never tried the Sainsbury's one.

ememem84 · 03/06/2017 07:46

laksa according to the Google orange crush is a reference to "agent orange" a defoliating thing used in Vietnam during the war. No idea other than that though.

I do like R.E.M. Though. 😀

adora boats boats boats!!! Agree any boat is good. except the new cross channel thing we have here which sort of corkscreews through the water the motion is awful

Back to riding today. Yay!! Counting down to my last lesson. 😭😩 logically I know I'll have to stop sometime. So am sort of prepared but the thought of not filling my weekends with ponies is almost unbearable. Cannot wait to get baby out and get back in the saddle. 🐎🐎

ChristmasSeacow · 03/06/2017 08:05

Colin the caterpillar is one of my great loves. I have not tried any of the supermarket ones.

Taking DS to a birthday party today for a couple of hours, otherwise having a quiet day at home. I am hoping to get out to supervise some serious weeding in the garden and I will have a crack at sorting the spare room too. It seems the epic thunderstorms yesterday have cleared the air (I got caught in a biblical downpour on the way back from the gp - I was a drowned rat!) so it is much more pleasant now.

teabagsmummy · 03/06/2017 08:05

Hi can I join please?
I'm currently on maternity leave my wee boy is 4 months old and I also have a 10 year old son.
I'm so poor at the moment I'm only getting sat mat pay. I'm not die back to work till 30th oct but going back for 1 night a week at end of August and still get mat pay.
I applied for tax credits online but because when I put my salary and dh's in it said we couldn't get it Confused.
My council tax about cleats me out and just had to pay £200 to get my car fixed. I have £52 to last me till last Friday of the month

WreckTangled · 03/06/2017 08:12

Life enjoy your weekend!

Today is the village fete on the green. Totally traditional with pimms tent etc. It's fab. Usually raise about £13k for the village. Dh has given me £20.

Welcome teabags lots of good advice here. That's not much to last you, is it just food you need with that? Would it help to write down all your outgoings to see where your money is going? Look at entitledto.co.uk to double check the tax credits.

WreckTangled · 03/06/2017 08:16

I've just worked out how to bold really easily on the app without having to do the ** so my posts will be much clearer from now on Grin

northender · 03/06/2017 08:21

Em what a horrible thing for your colleague to say.
Cag I hope you can end up with a rebate on your fuel, worth pursuing
wreck you have my sympathy, I can't stand eggs so would have really struggled with that test...yuk!
laska all these elections are keeping you busy.
Great to see more newbies on the thread too Smile

Our remortgage has gone through...yay! We borrowed more than we needed so that we can get the driveway done now & get a new front door. Just need to claim the costs back from our previous lender now. They have committed to sort it within 5 working days so we'll see. Our M&S bank account is being processed too so there will be a £125 gift card from that too.

Boot camp type class this morning (already paid for). Dh is going to cut the lawn and the hedge while I'm out. Will take dd to the cricket match she is scoring for and there is a nice walk nearby so dh and I will do that I think. Didn't get the car boot sale done last week so planning to do that tomorrow. Haven't got a huge amount of stuff but I think it should be enough to make it worthwhile. I've got various bits of fabric on eBay finishing tomorrow so fingers crossed. The 2 vintage pieces both have £5 bids at the moment.

Have a good weekend everyone.

ChristmasSeacow · 03/06/2017 09:01

Gosh, that does sound tight teabag . Is this a particularly bad month? Is there anything you could eBay / FB to make a few extra quid (newborn clothes or similar that you have finished with)?

ememem84 · 03/06/2017 09:41

What have you got in freezer teabag can you use everything up by having simple but strange meals.

One of our use it ups was once stir fried peas and celery with rice....

Laska5772 · 03/06/2017 10:40

em i did think it was 'orange cross' so for years thought possibly of the Orange marches ... but yes agent orange .. still doesnt make huge sense though. I think they are about to re- release Automatic for the People Smile
Teabag yes make a list of what youhave in and meal plan around that. We are running down freezer as going away in 3 weeks( yay!) . We have lots of mince and peas i find (4 bags of peas!- why?)

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/06/2017 11:13

Teabag I would ring tax credits directly, those guides say we'd be entitled to £1200 a month if Dh was unemployed.

Ok, I would also see what you can cobble together from the freezer & cupboards. Most people have loads in. It might be a bit random.

If you need to shop stick to basics ranges & Aldi or lidl. We even use basics tea bags after years on pg tips.

WreckTangled · 03/06/2017 11:24

I remembered I had a £15 m&s voucher so went and got some very expensive essentials. Spent £1.79. Also £16 Amazon on cat food.

LonelyOversharer · 03/06/2017 11:43

Hey all! Well, that was an evening to forget. Dp gets home feeling poorly. He's been an utter arse for a few days, which is really out of character, and rings alarm bells.

So I finally lost my temper and said, "if you feel so poorly, you need to be seen" He mumps and calls the gp. So here's my vote for the amazing nhs!! He had an appointment within 10 mins (took us 25 to get there but gp running behind), in to see doctor, given angina spray (this is new), gp re-saw him 10 mins later, and blue lighted him to hosptial. In a+e for tests and on a ward within 45 mins. Basically he had a huge asthma attack (it had been building), they thought heart as he doesn't present with a wheeze at all, O2 saturation at 98%, but windpipe closing. Steroids, new inhalers and home by 2300. Wow.

I have taken my mum eggs and a courgette plant to say thanks/sorry for unexpectedly having all dc last night (they were all still up at 2230 so came home with us).

It was a lsd, £4 hospital parking, and £2 in the coop on spuds for tea, that were a dead loss as I left the oven on when we ran out to the gp's at 4, returned to feed the dogs at 9! So I did a lot of miles too (it's 22 to the hospital from home, so I did about 90 miles while dp was being sorted out).

We are in the shop today, as we have customers due to pick up bikes, and the steroids have settled dp right down.
