Hello everyone! We are having a family lunch tomorrow (due to sister's dog having a hydrotherapy appointment today
) so we are doing all the egg hunt shenanigans tomorrow so we can all enjoy watching DS.
Sounds as though people are having a lovely day on the whole. The forecast said rain but we've only had a brief shower, it's been rather nice otherwise!
Having a relaxing day here buying a few bits for the baby on eBay and doing some batch cooking of things DS depends on for the freezer. I have spent hours in the kitchen but still need to make pecan pie, or at least the pastry, to get ahead for lunch tomorrow. Cheat's dinner tonight - DH and I are sharing half a crispy duck with pancakes, cucumber etc, will be a treat. And exciting telly too - I am loving Line of Duty and Homeland at the moment!
We've been talking about holidays here... since we are not getting one at all this year due to timing of the baby, saving money and DS starting school, we were planning to go away next easter to break the long drought. I was thinking we should probably book soon if we don't want to pay even more of a stupid premium for the school holidays. Is it worth booking very early, do you think? Not sure whether we will go short haul Europe for a bit of sun or just uk. Will be self-catering anyway as much easier with DS.
We have also remembered that DH gets a big chunk of extra paid leave next year as a long service award thing. He can therefore take the whole of the summer holidays off (6-8 weeks altogether, in fact) all paid! I was thinking of looking for work after easter but I think if we can make the savings stretch I will try to stay off over the summer so we can all enjoy it together. Baby wil be a year by then and quite fun, I think it could be such a wonderful opportunity for family time. We are thinking of taking advantage of that and going for a long-ish holiday in Scotland because DS is good in the car and we have a fairly big car that we don't use enough, so maybe we can go for a road trip over the summer for 3 weeks or so. Anyway, it is making me happy to research and look forward to that, even though it is more than a year away! I don't think sc accommodation is prohibitively expensive away from the main tourist spots so I reckon we can do it quite frugally.
Has everyone sorted what they are doing this year for summer? There was thread recently about how much people spend on holidays. I was quite shocked because even when we have had fancy holidays in the past it didn't prepare me for the costs people were quoting - it is very different being 2 adults, 2 salaries, going in term time to paying for kids as well in school hols. I am amazed so many people go away at all! I am working on getting DH to consider camping but he is a softie with an unhealthy dependence on wifi
