Girliefriendlikesflowers · 29/10/2016 10:41

Morning all Smile

Em that is really annoying of your dh, hope he has a banging head this morning Wink

I am having a first world sulk about the fact that it rained on my dry washing last night as i was too tired to bring it in!! Very annoying as I have more washing to try and get dry now as well.

Dd coughed loads last night again Sad at about 3 am she was coughing so much we were all up, I remembered a friend telling me that she put vicks on her feet and then put socks on and it stopped her coughing so tried that and amazingly it worked Shock A very good tip for anyone who has an night time cough!!

Having a quiet morning, dd watching hotel Transylvania and I am still in my pjs. Plan to go out later and get dds hair cut, its beautifully long at the moment but she has been asking to get it cut for ages. Will pick a few food bits up in Morrisons as well, my friend is picking up my old dishwasher later - she gave me £50 for it - will be sad to see it go!!

Attached is a picture of the back of dds head so you can admire her lovely hair!!

Glad you had a good time Girlie.

Food shop done £50, bumped into an old school friend so that was really nice.

Interesting article about saving (though not sure they have reported it correctly that someone on benefits saved £200 a week) www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-37798513

ItalianWiking84 · 29/10/2016 12:14

Em i agree with you, it's the expectation without being asked. I don't mind giving lifts and dh knows it, but he would always txt first to check that I was fine before agreeing with lifts.
Cats tend to be very attached to e.g. Blankets ect that smells comforting to them, so we don't wash our cats blanket but just hang it outside for a bit of fresh wind.

Cagliostro · 29/10/2016 12:18

I've heard very good things about Vicks on feet! I've done it on DD before but going to put it on mine tonight as the cold is brewing.

I'm staying home today and I'm ordering a takeaway just for me! Caglets are going to a party.

DH is off but got a phone call yesterday from DSCs saying their mum had at the eleventh hour decided she wasn't going with them to comicon as she'd promised. :( DSS had already bought her ticket, travel card etc. So they asked DH to go instead! :) Could be a spendy day obviously but we've both been saving most of our pocket money for a while. :o

Also he was going to take that dungeons and dragons thing but I suggested just taking photos of it as it's going to be heaving and I would be super paranoid about it getting nicked! So he's just going to talk to people and see if they have any advice about where to sell.

How much does she want to cut off girlie? Just home from work, 4 hours at double time. I feel strangely motivated by the good weather so think I'll tackle the playroom.

AGenie · 29/10/2016 12:29

That's quite weird about Vicks on the feet. I tried Magnesium oil on the feet and it caused weird gastro side effects. It makes me wonder what people might be doing to themselves by spreading all sorts of magic goo on their feet without even knowing that stuff can be absorbed there. Sulphur footbath anyone?

mammymammyIRL · 29/10/2016 12:34

Vicks on feet is a winner here too

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/10/2016 13:19

em Stop picking him up. Your taking work from taxi drivers Wink

I feel such a twat. I had a brainwave this morning that I don't have to use the society of chiropodists and podiatrists for indemnity insurance, which I've used for 16 years, so I did an online quote for the same £5 million cover and I've been quoted £78 a year.

Currently I'm paying £400 a year to the society.

I've wasted £1000s over the years to them. I'll let this policy lapse in January and go with black Friars instead.

£50 to service boiler & he's given me the name of an electrician he uses to fit my chop clock.

ememem84 · 29/10/2016 13:52

Haha fluffy true. The journey home at 1030 would be about 10 minutes in a taxi and would cost over £25. Shock screw the taxi drivers. jokes

He doesn't even have a hangover. Angry

But I've got back from riding and I have a Blt waiting Grin

mammymammyIRL · 29/10/2016 14:17

He's redeemed himself so em Wink
Bet he hits the afternoon slump badly though.

At a community venture currently. First monthly screening of a movie in community centre. €12 as have a friends of dds with me & they got a bag of Aldi popcorn for that. There's a shop available & hot dogs later, hoping to avoid buying from there.
Ds is enthralled after spending first 5 mins with his face buried in my shoulder

ememem84 · 29/10/2016 14:31

Afternoon slump you say. Tea, rehydrating drink couch and rugby? I think this is the slump.

Also he made himself a toastie last night. And spilled ketchup on the couch.

ememem84 · 29/10/2016 14:32

Also frugal day here. Am dying some black/grey jeans black again. They're on their second wash.

mammymammyIRL · 29/10/2016 14:37

€2 on fizzy drinks for dd & her friend ds declined

Needastrongone · 29/10/2016 15:26

Fluffy. We have ALL done it as some point. You can't get the money back so be pissed off, then let it go. Change the policy going forward. Bastard companies happy to take as much as they want from you. They should be made to give you their best deal..

Busy few days but fairly frugal. Ish. Well, within budget.

£45 nails, toes and brows. Yes my toes are covered up now, but yes, I am that vain and I give no shit or apology.
£20 pizza, requested by DH who is home after 3 weeks and completely zonked. Travelling the world is not glam, believe me.

Today.
£60 M&S, all Christmas cards I need on 3 for 2, have a few from last year but not many. And a bottle of whiskey for DF for Christmas. Rest was reduced stuff.

Needastrongone · 29/10/2016 15:32

View from my bedroom today, Autumn is indeed lovely.

Also ran 9.5 miles this morning, including Parkrun.

BOO! The Freaky Frugaleers prepare for Halloween and beyond. All welcome!
mammymammyIRL · 29/10/2016 16:11

Dd won a free ticket to the next screening of movie, I know we're away so frantically checked pass to see if it was dated & it isn't!!

Garden is fabulous need

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 29/10/2016 16:43

Lovely garden need

We have been out for a couple of hours, dd got her hair cut had a couple of inches off but it looks lovely and she is happy! Cost £14.

Bought a few bits in Poundstretchers for £7.50, noticed they had quite a lot of stocking fillers in there so will need to pop back when dd isn't with me!!

£56 in Morrisons, quite pleased with that as haven't done a big shop in ages and got lots for that, have refilled the freezer and cupboards so hoping it will last a while plus £6 of that was spent on plants!!

£40 petrol.

Amazing how easy it is to spend £120 in a couple of hours Shock

Going to watch Corpse Bride now - am liking the halloween themed films!!

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 29/10/2016 16:45

Oh and Fluffy that is really frustrating but agree with Need be annoyed and then let it go, these things happen and you learn from them.

ememem84 · 29/10/2016 16:48

Oh need lovely garden. I am always Envy when I see pics of your gardens. One day I will have a garden and will dazzle you with it. Grin

Dh hasn't moved. This afternoon I've steamed the living room carpet. Have dyed (successfully) 8 pairs of black jeans.

Have washed up. And have put another load of (dark in case there's dye residue) washing on. Productive.

ememem84 · 29/10/2016 16:50

fluffy don't feel like a twat. I only just realised that I can claim my professional membership fees (totalling £300 a year) back on my tax return. So have submitted a letter and have pointed out the payments I've made for the past 9 years. Am hoping for either a tax rate reduction or a refund.

CremeEggThief · 29/10/2016 17:56

NSD. It's just getting dark here,so this time tomorrow it'll be dark at 5 p.m.Haloween Sad

Wheelycote · 29/10/2016 18:05

Hi all! Can I come back? Another attempt at climbing back on the frugal wagon....only the umpteenth this year and the year is nearly overShock
Hope everyone's well, recognise a few names...well done for still frugaling!!!Smilehoping to take a leaf out of your books

Needastrongone · 29/10/2016 18:31

Hi Wheely, lovely to have you back. Step back on the wagon.

Em, you just might get that refund from HMRC, at least for a few years if not all. Worth a try. You don't need to dazzle with a garden, I'm happy with fashion advice. Smile

I think Morrisons is good value Girlie.

That Joules 25% off is a bit sly. To qualify for free delivery you've got to spend over £49 (or something), but that's the discounted value. Otherwise it's £3.95. I wanted to get the Mum's scarves, but would have to buy myself one to go over the limit for free delivery. Angry

Having another Jamie recipe for tea, going to a Halloween party then out all day at a competition Sunday.

Cagliostro · 29/10/2016 18:41

Just catching up on the thread.

Collie our bathroom is carpeted Blush hate it but being rented can't change it! The one plus point is that you don't get cold feet if you need the loo in the night :o but no I would definitely not have carpet if it were my choice.
