catching up - i wrote a post at lunchtime but lost it.
so:
tax seminar was interesting. loads of work to be done from it. those of you on this thread who are UK resident but non domiciled and have various assets (investments, houses etc) get ye to a tax adviser and get some advice. changes are a coming if you want to leave the uk permanently. or even if you are thinking about it. they are also changing the inheritance tax rules forUK res non doms.
bacon rolls (the important bit) were amazing. there were also lots of lovely mini pastries. le super yum. and super strong coffee
work has been hellish. stupid busy, everyone wants a piece of me it seems. our compliance team are hounding me to produce things i just can't do (because they don't exist), and won't take this as an acceptable answer. gah
clients are emailing left right and centre.
wreck i can beat your emails - i started with 76 in my inbox to read/deal with and ended up with 165. 21 of which are unread (but i think they're payments) so those can wait for tomorrow.
cath there is no way i'd be at work on Christmas. absolutely not. In my old job (the one i left for this one), we were frequently told we weren't working hard enough. and that to get promoted we had to stay late. you lose the work life balance. and if I'm honest, it wasn't for me. i couldn't cope with the pressure. i realised something was a bit wrong when i was the only one in the office at 10pm one new years eve. waiting for a transaction to be finalised. thats what i hated about law (especially commercial funds/corporate real estate stuff - that was my area) its expected you stay until the job is done.
when i interviewed for this job, i made it very clear what i wanted - pay increase, flex flex hours (as in i can work from home but not on a regular basis - so if i need a day i can have one - i tend to do a day a month at home), and a nice working environment. i got all 3. 18 months in and i'm generally happy. a lot of law colleagues thought i was ruining my career taking this step, but actually, being on the other side has worked out for me. and for work. they can utilise my legal expertise, but I'm not held responsible - as am non practising so although i am qualified to advise, i can't and don't. and i can have the work life balance i wanted. (and get to wear cute outfits every day! - no more suits - unless its for important clients!)
spends today £12 on having my bracelet cleaned and mended. £4 on soup, sandwich and a drink.
garlic chili brocoli stir fry for dinner. with noodles. yum.
i am so happy it's friday tomorrow its been a looooong week - and i have along weekend! !
