Also going to a café to meet up with someone from work who's on maternity leave.

ItalianWiking84 · 27/06/2016 07:35

Hi adora Smile wawes...
5£ Mac, oops and 10£ on a second hand nursery bag.
The electrician needed a part yesterday that we didn't have so he'll come around in the afternoon, no idea what it will cost but we'll see.

CremeEggThief · 27/06/2016 07:43

Welcome back Adora Smile.

Ememem84 · 27/06/2016 08:03

adora hi!!

wreck how exciting cat-day. I am so jealous. I've been working on Dh for ages to let me get a cat.

Today should in theory be a nsd.

I have just had a text from Royal Mail telling me that something I've ordered will be delivered today. Not sure what it is...we haven't orders anything for ages. Will have to track it when I'm at work to see if I can work it out. Mystery..

£244 vets bill. I thought it would be more.
New door being fitted today. £450 but saved for.

Thanks for your kind words.

ItalianWiking84 · 27/06/2016 09:12

Hugs to you babs...

Whataboutwhathuh · 27/06/2016 09:13

Babs I'm so sorry xxxx

Yesterday dh spent £20 on lunch after a cycle event and £20 on dinner as i wasn't up to cooking. Feeling a bit gutted as we spent £30 on Friday on take out too. We've got so good at just having one take out a month and this is bad. I also seem to have put on 2lbs from it Shock

Today I think I need diesel but that should be it.

Noodlebrains · 27/06/2016 09:30

Oh babs my boy is only 4 but I dread the day. Hugs.

Noodlebrains · 27/06/2016 09:39

I need to sit down with the budget and bank account later I think. Despite being married for 5 years we only got a joint account in February. It's going well but we've drifted a bit.

The idea is to build up a buffer so we can pay for everything out of it - car insurance for 2 cars, tax, all other insurance. And we were on track for a few months but I took my eye off the ball and the majority of expenses happenen between July and December. November alone we need to pay out almost €1500 and I think most of it will need to come from savings because before then there's a few hundred coming out every month for car insurance, dog insurance etc so there's no chance to save extra.

So I need to see where we are and where we want to be. We both tend to spend a bit more at the end of the month as well. We had a takeaway last night and DH didn't take a lunch today so will buy something.

Car insurance for DH is going to be the next big expense. Premiums have gone crazy here (am in Ireland), it was €600 last year so hoping for the same but realistically if it's under €1000 we'll be OK.

WreckTangled · 27/06/2016 09:51

Em the trick is to just tell your Dh that you're going to look and then he will fall in love too Grin

Ds and I are just having a lovely walk and everyone we've seen this morning walk in their dogs as said hello. Lovely. Smile

babsmam · 27/06/2016 10:16

Dh did that when we got our dog wreck and em. "I'm just going to get some advice" he said. Came back with the filthiest, cutest ever 1 year old bundle of fluff. So pleased he did. Pets are hard work but bring do much joy and grief

DontLetMeLetYouGo · 27/06/2016 10:47

Morning!!

Yesterday I spent the afternoon making an invite for my sons birthday. Will print them via snapfish free prints and only pay £1.49 for around 75 prints. I'm chuffed with that. I won't use all 75 for the invites, I'll print some of my own photos.

I've confirmed the booking at the place we are hiring. It's a local club and will cost £30.

I've confirmed his entertainer whom was highly recommended. Paid £10 deposit for that. And will discuss arrangements later.

I've ordered his cake, paid a deposit of £30. I know this isn't frugal however the stress I'd have making my own just isn't worth it.

Here is my to do list for the day:

  • Work out who to invite from his guest list he's written for me. The little monkey knows all his class off by heart in order of the register. Little monkey. We also have big family and friends. Will wind it down a little. He's having his first whole class party and the last. I told him this year he could have a big party but following years will be smaller activities/days out.
  • Order sweet cone bags. I'm doing these rather than party bags and will go to local wholesalers with my aunts business card and buy there. has anyone suggestions what sweets may work well?
  • Order paper plates and other stuff off ebay. I have a little colour theme going. Oops.

I've become a bit obsessed with this party planning thing. I love colours, themes, coordination etc. If I ever could have my own business I think I would do something like this. However I know how competitive it is.

WreckTangled · 27/06/2016 11:39

In the sweet cones we've received its been mini haribo, Palma violets, fizzers, lollies, all the chewy ones which no one likes, love hearts (my favourite!) and stuff like that.

£12 in the posh over priced café on a coffee, lemonade, juice carton, biscuit and croissant.

AdoraBell · 27/06/2016 11:54

Wreck we did that, and DH fell in love with the last 2 from a litter, which is why we have four bloody dogs, luffs em really, and last night one tried to shoe DH off the sofaGrin, your cat is lovely.

Thanks and hugs Babs

Italian and Girlie congrats to both on your new bump/new home news.

Glad the birthday party went so well, sounds amazingGrin

Today will be spendy but I don't know how much yet. Seeing solicitor to make new wills. And we need gluten free bread, local baker does one that's almost edible

babsmam · 27/06/2016 12:11

How old is ds don't? Depending on the age I would say the same as wreck. Flumps always go down well too.

£8.40 prescription, back on ad's

DontLetMeLetYouGo · 27/06/2016 12:17

He'll be 6 babs.

I've saved up all year for this. It better be worth it. I don't think DS will contribute. He has a poor attitude towards money and believes the whole £120 a month he gives me should cover everything including uniforms etc whilst he swans off on 6 holidays this year. He said I should be thankful he rounded up his maintenance to £120 rather than £118. Idiot.

DontLetMeLetYouGo · 27/06/2016 12:19

That should Say DS dad. Clearly not DS.

babs hope you're okay. big hugs Flowers

Taytocrisps · 27/06/2016 12:23

A very unfrugal weekend as we had dinner and drinks in the local hotel yesterday. We watched the Ireland match Sad and then had a carvery dinner.

Today I treated my friend to breakfast so it cost €20.35 for both of us. We do it once a month and take turns to pay. We have our breakfast and then order extra tea and coffee and have a long natter. It's really nice to get out of the house for a few hours and catch up. This will be our last breakfast treat until September as the kids finish up for the summer on Thursday. It would cost considerably more to bring all the kids for breakfast and we wouldn't be able to talk freely with the kids there.

I've had a very busy few weeks and it's only just dawning on me that I'll have to try and entertain DD for 8 weeks! I had a quick look at the 'Keeping your kids entertained on a budget this summer' thread but a lot of the suggestions are geared towards younger kids. I'll have another read of it and see if I can get some inspiration. If the weather's nice, I could bring her to the beach or go for a picnic but it's been very unsettled here for the last few weeks. I might schedule in some projects like doing a big wardrobe and toy room clear out. And some fun stuff like baking.

I have family in Dublin so I might invite myself up for a few days and have some fun days out. Cheap days (free museums) interspersed with more expensive days (cinema, wax museum, Viking Splash Tour etc.). I'll schedule some playdates too, obviously and I'm sure the other parents will do likewise.

WreckTangled · 27/06/2016 12:30

I bloody love flumps

babsmam · 27/06/2016 12:32

Don't, I think your plan of not being frugal on the cake is a good one. I blew the budget for ds's 6 th last year on the cake and he loved it. That was the memorable bit. The rest was done frugally (except the entertainer, and a good one is always worth the money) and tbh meant more to me than him.
Sweet wise my ds loves all haribo, mallows, love hearts, drumstick, that kind of thing.

babsmam · 27/06/2016 12:34

Me too wreck, always have to buy double. Clearly have to be a responsible parent and check they are not poisonous. .

Just about to spend £50 on plants as a memorial. Along with a few others I've wanted for a while

Noodlebrains · 27/06/2016 13:11

tayto not sure where you are - I'm south west. I just looked at the forecast and its rain for the foreseeable future! I only have almost 3 year old DD to entertain though.

ItalianWiking84 · 27/06/2016 15:25

40£ for the electrician that included the extra part

Taytocrisps · 27/06/2016 15:57

I think this picture sums it up Noodle

creme holiday sounds fab, whether it's good value or not I can't tell with not knowing the cost of hols from uk. Crete is amazing, I spent an entire summer there when I was in college and had an amazing time, worked hard and played hard Grin

cag I looked in the window of Rainforest Cafe when I was holidays in January and the prices of the cuddly toys made my eyes water, we didn't even bother stepping inside the door.

don't I know you've no income but please do not rush back into work if you're not fit for it, you don't want to set your progress back. I definitely returned too quickly to my evening job after ds and ended up taking a load of time off from it as a result
Best of luck coming off the fags, do you smoke a lot? dh gave us 40 a day habit 10 years ago with nicorette for first couple of weeks, I gave up my miserable couple of fags per day about a fortnight before we got together.

Great idea to work out how many shifts will help you meet your savings goals. Hope we don't have to apologise for long posts, I regularly post long posts I figure people can read them, skim read them, or skip right past depending on their time and interest levels Hmm

wreck that's hilarious about your ds and it not having anything to do with you because you weren't there, my dh thinks it's funny when ds does it when I'm out with him but doesn't find it so funny when it happens to himself. He compared ds weeing on him while he was carrying him wetting his tshirt and us going straight back to the car to ds weeing on me when he was sitting on my lap on the ferry home and me having to sit for 2 hours with wet shorts unable to move in because I'd a huge wet patch Angry

Welcome to biscuit your friends tom and danny da say hello, they are escape artists and are regularly spotted racing past our back door Smile

We had an extremely busy weekend.

Sat 10am mass followed by two birthday parties and a day out yesterday at a fairy festival. Very pleased with our frugalness yesterday dd was offered a treat as a reward for doing well all year in school, she chose to have a picnic on our day out! Entry was €17 for 2 adults & 3 children, 3 children got glitter tattoos €12, we planned on getting chips/ice cream for the way home but both vans were closed up when we were leaving so I cooked the two pizzas I got for free last week and chips for dinner and we'd ice cream at home to follow Grin

Welcome noodle myself, tayto and creme are Irish but creme lives in UK. Check out My Money and Me on RTE player if you get a chance it's a good series, there are 3 episodes still available to view it gives good ideas. Noodle I'm south west too

bab hugs for your poor ddog and Flowers for you

tayto I love the idea of meeting a friend for breakfast once a month as a treat, my friend who lives in Dublin and I sometimes meet up and do that when she's down visiting, once the older people were starting to come in for their dinner at 12.30pm and we were still lounging around Blush
I bought a few craft bits in aldi for dd & ds to be entertained with during the summer

My wet cold feet yesterday and your pic match perfectly tayto
