I was going for a nsd, but had to put petrol in the car, so 45euros.

Pointlessfan · 28/08/2015 21:59

7 months blue? Really? I'm sure you were chatting to us when your baby was a few weeks old, doesn't it go quickly? Mine is nearly 18 months!
What I've saved loads since having a baby, I no longer have a social life!

blueteapot · 28/08/2015 22:40

I also probably wouldnt stretch to 850 for a washing machine, esp if I hadnt really budgeted for it, sorry :( but then again I have only ever heard good things about miele! Lots of false economy going on in this house at times though :/

Pointless I sure was - seems a long time ago now!

AdoraBell · 28/08/2015 23:05

wheelycote · 29/08/2015 07:13

Found you all!!! I can't seem to use the mobile app anymore......Have missed mumsnet!!!!!

Ememem84 · 29/08/2015 07:14

Today will hopefully be an nsd. I'm up early to go to the Drs. Have had a rattly barky cough for the last week and have had enough so need to get it checked out. Almost coughing myself inside out yesterday made me do this. Dr will technically set me back £36 for the appointment but I can claim this back against health insurance with work.

peppa sorry if I've missed this but is the washer a Miele? If so from what I've read they're totally worth it. My parents bought one 10 years ago. And it's still going.

Unescorted · 29/08/2015 07:25

I'm back - although this weekend I have no IT Sad so I will have to do real things. It feels like a space probe and I am dipping into the shadow of a large celestial body.

candy sports drinks can be made from weak squash and a quarter teaspoon of salt. Top tip from a friend on a GB sports team.

Peppa For ?850 I would expect it to iron the clothes as well. We have a Hotpoint Aquarius - which someone said they had problems with up thread. Ours has been great. I don't know how old it is as it was in the house as a condition of sale. We moved here 8 years ago and at the time the vendor said it was "old". It doesn't seem to be the brand that is "good" or "poor" but the person who made it on the day.

I have had a week of unecessary spending... meal deal lunch, expensive wrapping paper & ribbon (that is to wrap some presents for the medical staff that are making my mum better so I don't begrudge a penny of it and would spend twice over if I need to), new notebook ( we have perfectly good ones at work!), huge bag of descicated coconut, random bits of stuff for kids going back to school and wine......

Off for a run and then I am making a start on my frugal cookbook I am putting together for the kids so they don't starve when they leave home. I am going to make some cakeage too. Have a good weekend. See you Sunday night.

SpottyTeacakes · 29/08/2015 07:29

I'm back too wheely. I hate the bloody mobile site it's so slow Angry and takes me ages to write anything! I managed a ns four days as I worked so much. I miss working I actually enjoyed my fifty hour week

Unescorted · 29/08/2015 07:36

Spotty think of it as an earn as you save scheme Wink

OK I am really going now.....I appear to be putting off my run. Blush Please kick my sorry backside

wheelycote · 29/08/2015 07:42

peppa love the frugal cookbook idea your doing!! Do you mind me asking what meals you have in there?

spotty I agree....roll on when mumsnetis back to normal and this hacker has buggered off :)

Unescorted kicking your backside in case you haven't gone out for run yet.....you've reminded me I'm meant to be running this morning hahaha

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/08/2015 07:50

Did anyone notice the estimated running costs on that miele washer though? it was only £20 a year.

If it works for 15 years with no issues you've had your moneys worth out of it.

I dont mind spending a lot on labour saving machines like that if I have the cash because of the reliability.

ipsos · 29/08/2015 08:16

I like your thinking Fluffy. Any excuse to buy a washing machine that really works and has free repairs when needed is good for me.

ipsos · 29/08/2015 08:25

I've set up my washing line outside again for free drying. I got rid of it a couple years ago when ds thought it was hilarious to pull the washing down, throw it on the ground, and run away cackling. Now he thinks it's extremely grown up to hang out the washing himself. That's a bit of a win then. :-)

GreenWalls · 29/08/2015 08:31

Hi all,

Can I please join?

I really need to learn from you all. I want to pay off my credit card and overdraft. To do this I need to stop frittering money away.

Pretty pleased with myself this morning - been paid, transferred money to the savings and bills accounts so now I can see what I am left with for the month.

A big way I can save money is letting DH do the shopping - and I need to stop 'popping in' to the supermarket on the way home from work - I can easily spend £££ that way on things we don't even need.

Just starting a new job where I will get £300 more per month. This is the money I am transferring to bills and savings so that I can't tell the difference (hopefully).

I'm pleased I have bought most of the Christmas presents already - in the Book People christmas sale. I am also keeping a list so that I don't 'double buy'.

wheelycote · 29/08/2015 08:38

Welcome greenwalls this is a lovely supportive corner of mumsnet

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/08/2015 08:41

Welcome Green

There was a story on moneysavingexpert ages ago about a woman getting a new job and putting all the extra into her mortgage. She paid it off super quick. It'll hopefully be the same for you.

ipsos Start them young eh? Grin

ipsos · 29/08/2015 09:10

Welcome greenwalls. :-) Sounds like you're starting brilliantly. Well done on the job. I did a similar trick in my 20s by paying a 20% annual voluntary contribution into my pension. I got so used to it that I actually forgot I was doing it. I had no money to live on but have ended up with a nice little pension from that 2 year contract job. :-)

Fluffy - Yes I suppose so. He was very keen on emptying the dishwasher at 18 months and did it every day. Now hanging up washing is the thing. We had to stay up late yesterday because he was so excited about the tea towel wash finishing. :-)

SpottyTeacakes · 29/08/2015 09:20

Right I just spent £27 on a hudl2 and screen protectors for dd for Christmas. I used a discount code and all of my clubcard vouchers. I need to get ds something similar I'm not sure if I should get him the same thing or something like a leapad. I just don't want any arguments!

Welcome all the newbies

PeoniesforMissAnnersley · 29/08/2015 09:22

ipsos I like the sound of DS - do you lend him out Grin

We have to attach the new screens to the chain fence today, excited.

Ememem84 · 29/08/2015 09:37

Totally pointless Dr visit. thank god I can claim the fee back I have ........a cough.

I knew that. Drs suggestions - warm drinks. Honey. Lots of water.

Have started dh on a clear out/audit exercise. We're going to find out exactly what we have. (I cleared out a drawer the other day and found I have 15 white tshirts.....!) and then get rid of the things we don't need/use/wear.

candybar · 29/08/2015 09:38

wheely I can't log into the app either, thought I'd forgotten my password but a reset didn't work either.

Going to the market this morning to buy air freshener and a new table cloth.
Should be lsd Smile

babsmam · 29/08/2015 09:39

Hi green and welcome.

I too have a hotpoint aquarium washing machine and it must be at least 7 years old. I've had one issue where the drum pegs fell out and the door catch is starting to not catch properly. Other than that no complaints. It's the wmpf 742 if you want a look. No I'm not that sad my phone is charging in the kitchen.

Going camping today so hoping for a cheap weekend. Then need to plan September and October spends, followed by Nov, Dec and Jan as autumn winter is very expensive round here

Ememem84 · 29/08/2015 09:39

Hi greenwalls earlier this year before I fell off the frugal wagon I found this I really supportive place to be. Thanks guys!

For me it was great to know that everyone is in the same boat. And to share tips/deals etc.

SpottyTeacakes · 29/08/2015 10:03

I've got a hotpoint Aquarius washing machine it's eight years old and currently still going strong.
