I totally agree, parenting is an individual thing, and all kids are different. I was a SAHM for the first 7 years of the DC's life, and, having 2 DC within 18 months, I know how important having individual time with them is. They got plenty of that from me too, and I valued it greatly also.

I am still there for them, my hours mean I am home when they get in from school and there before they leave. I am there when they need me. They know this intrinsically. If they want to chat, I am pottering around somewhere, if they want to be miserable hormonal sods that need space, that's fine too!!!

Sick of the sight of DD, I am with her that much Grin

We are all good parents here I reckon!

ipsos · 03/09/2015 17:35

Collie - I've just been looking at the book people. So many good books. :-)

The Works also sounds great what. :-)

Unescorted · 03/09/2015 17:41

Afternoon all Smile

Things have settled down here - thankfully. I never realised how all consuming a long term illness can be. I am shattered by trying to absorb it all.

My levan ( Herbert) has worked.... it is one of the few things that works better if the house is dusty. Sourdough bread is one of those things that is worth waiting for.

ipsos · 03/09/2015 17:42

Well done need. It sounds as though you're doing a fab job. SmileSmileSmile

needastrongone · 03/09/2015 17:44

As you are too ipsos Grin

babsmam · 03/09/2015 17:53

If we weren't good parents we wouldn't be on here and we wouldn't care how our anxiety affected the kids, if at all.

Nsd, until later when I do an online shop

SpottyTeacakes · 03/09/2015 17:59

Oh I did manage a nsd and I'm £25 up from fb selling site.

Whatabout · 03/09/2015 18:04

Need - how old was your daughter when she started showing a keen interest in horses? DS is obsessed but is only 2, so I'm assuming it'll be s couple of years before it would be sensible to let him at a pony. None of my local friends ride so will need to befriend someone with an obliging pony!

Whatabout · 03/09/2015 18:05

LSD - £7 on McDonald breakfast that DH Insisted on.

ipsos · 03/09/2015 18:18

What my ds was really into tv opera at 2 but it wore off thank goodness. It may be something entirely different when he's four.

Thanks need. This is a great group. I'm so glad to have found it. Smile

Girlfriend36 · 03/09/2015 18:36

Hi all, just catching up. Had a hideously busy day at work, didn't stop from 8am till 5pm and now feeling quite frazzled Grin However came in and cooked pesto salmon, rice and veg. Was cross though as dd confessed her nanny had let her eat chedders, fruit and a piece of cake for a 'snack' after school Shock unsurprisingly she didn't want much dinner Angry

Can totally empathise with all you anxiety sufferers, I also suffer with it on and off. Have just finished rereading the Louise Hay book You can Heal your life which I have found helpful, I find saying the affirmations as good as anything for helping with the anxiety. My latest thing to panic over is getting stuck in traffic, hate feeling 'trapped' somewhere iykwim.

Found what you were saying whatsa really interesting as i have taken the same approach with dd, she has at times seen me anxious but I have always pushed her to brave, told her to take risks (within reason obv Wink) encouraged her to be as social as possible and generally encouraged independence. She seems to be following the likes of your dd and loves horses and riding Smile which is amazing to me as i am scared stupid of horses!

Checked my account last night and am fed up as am already skint and we are only 3 days into the new month!

Ememem84 · 03/09/2015 18:59

Nsd!!!!

And have made £20 ish selling on eBay. Another £20 gone to the credit card reduction!

Freezer meal tonight - beef and potato massaman brown rice, and peshwari naan (found in the freezer). And a naughty beer.

Tomorrow will be the first day this week I'll be buying lunch for work and having a proper lunch.

needastrongone · 03/09/2015 19:29

whatsa Always, for DD. However, we live rurally and her best friend lives on a farm, so her earliest memories are running over the field from our house to theirs, to collect eggs, watch lambs being born (or die, she's very matter of fact) and hopping on and off ponies.

So, she was riding early, but never showed any interest in doing anything other than hacking until about aged 10, when she fancied mounted games. That's our main event, and the thing that takes up all her time, and mine!! And money... (but that's another story).

So, we've gone from loaning an old and grumpy pony at the farm, to a solid, calm but not massively speedy pony, who to be fair, will jump anything you point at it, to our new, super speedy out and out games pony, who will also do a super huge buck every so often. (I suspect his back hurts, but we have only had him a week, I need to get back and saddle checked). Which is kind of what I meant but girlie said so much better, DD can handle it, she laughs, she's not frightened, she's 'brave' as girlie says, independent etc, not phased.

And so, we've gone from this, to going to HOYS next month!

Do you have a horsey background? Helps a lot! A little Sheltand for a lawn mower would be ideal Grin

Collieputthekettleon · 03/09/2015 19:30

Just bagged up some baby 12-18 month winter clothes, shoes & toys to donate to a family charity in desperate need.

I have failed miserably with my No Spend Week Sad but my top up shop was £6 under budget.

needastrongone · 03/09/2015 19:35

ps - There are surely cheaper and less time consuming hobbies you might encourage!! Ha ha

Lovetoknit · 03/09/2015 19:37

Cold and wet again today so I have done some kindling and brought enough firewood in to warm up the house, well just the living room Wink
Both my dds want to go horse riding but so far I have put it off since I want them to be big enough to help at the stables too ( I know I am a cruel Mummy). We have a big meadow so when we went to look at the house they both wanted to buy it straight away "Look Mummy, there is a meadow, so we can have a horse or a pony" Grin Of course when I pointed out, that we we would need a stable, food and money for vet; they both offered to do some chores at home to pay for it Smile now they just want to win the lottery lol

NK5BM3 · 03/09/2015 19:38

Hello!! I can't believe this... I've been gone a week or so (ok maybe more) but because of the hacking I've not bothered to log in as I always do it via the app, and you've posted 700 posts and 30 pages already?!! I will try and read through them all tonight! :)

Haven't been frugal, it was the summer. Good news which I have to share with you all though....I got a tax refund!!! Got my p800 which I surprised about, and got v narky when I saw a large number at the bottom. Was waiting on the phone to HMRC when I got an email from my finance dept about a letter that was addressed to me in my married name. I rang them instead and they told me it was a cheque!!! For the exact amount that I thought I had to pay! Can't wait for the cheque to arrive in my pigeon hole. Might pop into work tomorrow evening to collect it!!

Pointlessfan · 03/09/2015 19:59

Good to have you back NK
My mum is very anxious and it definitely stopped me from doing a few things. She always thinks of the worst case scenario. She's anxious with DD now which causes problems because we're quite relaxed and let her do things like climbing the stairs (obviously we follow behind!) but my mum won't let her and then she gets upset. She's still a fabulous mum and gran though!
Training day at work was incredibly boring and didn't even stop me from spending any money as I bought chocolate on the way home to help me recover! Just about to eat it and watch awful Greg Wallace shopping programme!

Freeandsinglewater · 03/09/2015 20:12

Ok, I get the award for the most spent!
OMG...... So much money gone.......

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/09/2015 20:17

I enjoyed the greg wallace thing, is it a new series?. Wish they'd use aldi or lidl though. Mind you the snobbery around them keeps the hordes out.

Spotty Is there any funds locally for kids with parents on low incomes to pay for this sort of thing? Talkinpeace on the debt thread is good at that sort of thing. If there's one available she'll find it.

Agree roombas are fab. I cant afford one but maybe one day.

I've just been looking at majestic Calais prices online. OMG. I'd be dead of liver failure if I lived out there.

NSD.

SpottyTeacakes · 03/09/2015 20:21

I don't think we count as those on a low income but I don't think there is, no.

ohhelpohnoitsa · 03/09/2015 20:23

My word this moves fast. How will I keep up when I return to work next week!!?
Unfrugal today. Booked a sneaky facial and it was bliss. Relaxed me, treated me, made me have a bit of pride in myself which has been a bit lacking. £50 though. Ouch.

Freeandsinglewater · 03/09/2015 20:26

Ok I can't contain it...
I'm going to ascot, and spent a bloodily fortune. Then I had to to do a car service.

So
£300
And
£200
:(
