Busy day today so just been catching up with the thread - it's moving fast again. Saw orthopaedic specialist today and I have to have an MRI scan.
Also did weekly shop £51 and I'll have to go back for a couple of bits they didn't have. I did manage some frugal cooking though - veggie shepherds pie and also made banana and blueberry muffins to use up some fruit that had gone past its best.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 01/09/2015 21:18

Singles are almost always cheaper.

Might just swap some Tesco vouchers for megabus vouchers into London and then get the train out. I'd have to pay for the tube on top, but it would be a lot cheaper.

fuzzpig · 01/09/2015 21:18

Bloody hell though, it's going to cost almost as much to get to Brighton as it will to get to Birmingham. WTF. We are by Gatwick! That is insane. At least the rugby tickets were paid for long ago. But we will have to avoid eating out on the day except maybe a Maccy D as there'll be 7 of us!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 01/09/2015 21:20

It is before 10am, but on a Saturday. I though you could use it then, but that might explain it.

ipsos · 01/09/2015 21:22

I just tried that brfares website and if you type in a given journey then it displays every possible fare that can be had for that journey. For example my journey home to my parents would normally cost £137 but that site also displays a £26 option if I scroll right to the bottom.

Passthecake30 · 01/09/2015 21:35

If anyone needs hair dye...superdrug has a bogof at the moment Grin

spends - £4.75 on root touch up, £4.50 in H&B on prunes

off to trawl the net for "bargains"...I have the urge to splurge so will try for another Xmas present!

ipsos · 01/09/2015 21:38

I have the urge to hibernate. :-) I wonder if the internet sells duvets for cheap. Grin

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 01/09/2015 21:39

Yep, I have a £24.20 option for the outward journey and can see both the fares trainline are offering. Haven't looked at the return.

£7 to get the bus and £9 for the train out of London on the way out plus the tube. Only adds about 30-60mins to the journey as well and 1 less change. Not much of a decision really.

fuzzpig · 01/09/2015 21:47

I've ordered the railcard. £27 down oh well it basically pays for itself this month because of the Brighton trip, and at least we have it if we need any more journeys. FAMILY10 is the current discount code if anyone happens to need it.
Next time hopefully we will have the money to do a 3 year one as it's better value, max £70 - was tempted, but really can't spare the cash given all the other upcoming stuff. Might put a note in next year's diary to try and save up for it.

Talking of travel, I'm really struggling to figure out whether to pay for a bus pass or not. What with work and home ed activities we are on buses a lot - but of course when I'm in a relapse we aren't. Hmm.

fuzzpig · 01/09/2015 21:48

I only skim-read the recent posts Pass, and thought you were saying you'd bought a hair dye the colour of prunes. Presumably a dark purple? :o

Passthecake30 · 01/09/2015 21:50

Grin fuzz, no, I'm far too boring (and pale!) for that!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 01/09/2015 21:57

Difficult one, fuzz. I get a 52 week one through work because they've agreed a discount with the bus company. It normally pays for itself quickly, but it was the most enormous waste of money when I was off sick for 6 months the other year.

Any chance you could get one over a shorter period. Obviously they won't save you as much, but you might not lose as much if you relapse.

fuzzpig · 01/09/2015 22:15

That's true. Thing is my job is possibly on the line anyway (because of relapsing again, long boring story - I'm sure I'll be rambling about it on here if it gets to that, apologies in advance!Blush) so yes it wouldn't be worth getting a whole year. Not that we have the money for it anyway! :o

We were getting quarterly ones for DH but he's not renewed it and walks instead, running home some days as his training. There are monthly ones too, even weekly would save a bit on our busier weeks I think so I might just do that until we know a bit more about what's happening longer term. Everything is really up in the air at the moment, so just trying to bring in what we can and save what we can. Trying to remain chilled about it - que sera sera and all that.

AuditAngel · 01/09/2015 23:10

Hello to the newbies (seem to be saying that a lot lately-all welcome here)

River whereabouts are you? Just roughly? Are you in Greece?

Spotty how old is DS? If small, I may have something unisex. Or if he is bigger, I may have something DS has outgrown.I need to do a coat audit and clear out what doesn't fit. Especially as I have just bought new coats for DS and DD2.

Spends today £14 in M&S, for a sandwich and lots of crap (do not shop when hungry), plus £5 on slimming world (lost 3 pounds this week), £8 on a SW magazine and 2 books

AdoraBell · 01/09/2015 23:21

Spendy day.

£26 in Boots - Brita water filter jug, sunblock, tooth brushes and toothpaste. Cheaper than Sainsbo's but much more expensive than I paid in Chile, meh t'is swings and roundabouts.

£35 on dog food, it lasts about a month with 2 dogs.

£67 on another supermarket delivery. I'm getting ahead of myself because I'm anxious about DDs starting school and money.

lilacclery · 02/09/2015 05:20

Place marking again finally caught up!

Collieputthekettleon · 02/09/2015 06:23

wheely i did it really similar to how spotty says. Was so good!

the house was so cold when I woke up. I'd be surprised if I could wait til next month to turn the heating on.

I bought 2 presents late last night for £12. But budgeted for and saved £15 as they were in the sale Grin

I'd like a NSD today but this afternoon is due to be stressful. And I do not cope well on days like this. Blush and my auto immune disorder has flared up. So I feel crap

574ejones · 02/09/2015 06:43

Thanks for the pork recipes - the stack sounds awesome!

wheelycote · 02/09/2015 06:55

Morning everyone!

Finger crossing, hoping for a last minute Indian summer....Is it just me or has the majority of summer been cold and wet..

Fuzz Sorry to hear your relapsing, hoping it isn't too serious!

Have had cystitis for 4 days wondering whether it's worth a gp appointment....Have been drinking like a fish, it just isn't budging

Collieputthekettleon · 02/09/2015 06:58

wheely definitely see a GP after 4 days. You poor thing! Cystitis makes me completely miserable. Flowers

wheelycote · 02/09/2015 07:01

Spotty and Collie thanks for the cottage pie recipe!! Will make Friday night :)

Spotty Voucher for h&m if you take two bags of old clothes in. You can get two £5 vouchers in one day.

SpottyTeacakes · 02/09/2015 07:09

That's kind audit he's 2.

I've signed dd up for swimming lessons £28pcm by direct debit. Dh and I are going halves. It's really important for her to do them I think and will help her weak muscles. Only trouble is I have to wait in the cafe whilst she swims...

babsmam · 02/09/2015 07:27

Fuzz there is usually a rail card offer around Feb half term as my friend renews hers then. I'm hoping there will be one before the end of the year as I want to go to London in April

peppansalt · 02/09/2015 07:36

I have got to start proper meal planning.

I am veggie (+ don't eat cheese for added fun) whilst the rest of the family eat most things. I am so sick of cooking different meals for us, which inevitably means I eat later and separately to everyone else. Not to mention the added costs in electricity/gas.

I need several meal ideas/recipes that fundamentally are the same but can also be adapted to vegetarian without too much fuss or having several different pans on the go.

BTW DCs/DH will eat veggie meals but also enjoy meat/fish.
