I'm using zoflora on everything and listening to the woman next door yell at her two year old. Poor little sod sounds so distraught Sad

Dh is at work. Cats abandoned the day and is asleep on our bed.

Collieputthekettleon · 31/08/2015 10:55

wheely I live in the SW and we are surrounded by beaches that are covered in poo & tampons when it rains I'm jealous of those who can have a day out in London (or any large beautiful city). Blush Smile

SpottyTeacakes · 31/08/2015 11:04

Fluffy that sounds horrible poor boy Sad

Free I would do it anyway in a well ventilated room [rebel] and get a spin drier. Or ask them for a tumble drier.

Collieputthekettleon · 31/08/2015 11:33

Free the landlord should supply you with a tumble drier or at least a suitable garden area for a whirligig. If they are that concerned about condensation then they ought to fix the bathroom fan.

Email them and say "as we pay our rent on time every month we expect repairs to be carried out in a timely manner". That's what I did in our previous house Grin and it worked.

Collieputthekettleon · 31/08/2015 11:40

Free how about something like this? I was thinking of getting something similar for the patio so I can pop out and rescue everything quickly if its raining. I can't afford to run the tumble this winter.

It's expensive but the reviews are fab! It looks like it can hold quite a lot. And it looks sturdy

Collieputthekettleon · 31/08/2015 11:41

D'uh. The link would help... www.argos.co.uk/m/static/Product/partNumber/3308125.htm

Freeandsinglewater · 31/08/2015 12:04

To be honest I don't have the balls, because I am in THE cheapest house the area. All the over grown stuff is all the trees, so not really my responsibility. The landlady can ask us to Leave in two months, with no reason. :( it's why I don't want to rock the boat.

Sadly I'm in a area where rents are sky high, and getting a mortgage is near impossible because of the wages, I'm on a waiting list for help to buy schemes.

SpottyTeacakes · 31/08/2015 12:08

Can you afford a tumble drier?

Ememem84 · 31/08/2015 12:17

so far this weeks meal plan is as follows:

Today either go to Portuguese food festival (Spendy but delicious) or have sausages sweet potato chips and edemames.

Tomorrow prawns with pasta and tomato sauce.

Wednesday slow cooked beef massaman curry with brown rice.

Thursday - what I think is a beef chilli (but could be a spag Bol)

Friday - spicy Thai chicken mince -!: brown rice.

Saturday - pizza at pizza express. We have a gift card! Yippee!

Sunday - veggie cous cous

Monday - whatever is left....possible brocoli french bean and broad bean curry....

Shop on Tuesday.

I'm trying to use up all my freezer things. So I can defrost. Then we can do a huge shop for a month. And make lovely freezer dinners. For when we're too tired after work and gym to cook

Freeandsinglewater · 31/08/2015 12:18

spotty I can afford to buy one, but not sure if I can afford to run it.
Plus I'm short of space and the only place I could pop it would be in DS room.

PeoniesforMissAnnersley · 31/08/2015 12:19

free what about a heated airer? Just pack it away if LL comes over Grin

You could also get a dehumidifier then it won't impact on the house? It would be outlay of about £200 for both tho, unless you can get them on eBay/gumtree... hmm...maybe better to go for tumble drier, although they are dearer to run.

We just got a dehumidifier and I am Shock Shock at how much water there is in it all the time - we are very glad we got it as this house is cold and would tend to damp if we let it.

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/08/2015 12:29

I would go with a spin dryer off eBay, cheap to run and easily hidden.

Collieputthekettleon · 31/08/2015 12:30

Free oh crap Sad well...I used a launderette once or twice when DS was tiny. And the tumbles could take 2 loads of washing and would take 90 mins to dry.

Is it safe enough for you to leave the laundrette whilst you pop home until its due to finish? I used to do it really early when it was quiet. But there was a park and cafe nearby. Had to use a huge Ikea blue bag to carry the washing home which was hard work.

It's so tricky isn't it. We have a condensing tumble drier so it doesn't have to be near a window but its still costly to run. Probably not too expensive but currently too much for us. Blush

SpottyTeacakes · 31/08/2015 12:40

Emem is that beef curry mild? Id love a mild beef curry recipe to use in the sc. (mild is for dh not me Wink)

I would definitely just dry inside they'll never know!

Freeandsinglewater · 31/08/2015 12:41

peonies heated airer, I never new such things existed. I'll have a look, as for the dehumidifier I'm sure there must be a low cost running one. If the LL says anything then I'll say about the trees.

It's so bad that quite often, I have catapillers and bees in my clothes. It's great for DS who likes bugs.

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/08/2015 12:51

Gas powered tumble dryers are really cheap to run because gas is 1/3 the cost of electric.

The launderette ones are gas powered.

Collieputthekettleon · 31/08/2015 12:54

Just listed 5 items on eBay. Hoping to make around £50 in total.

Then we'll have nothing more to sell Sad

Ememem84 · 31/08/2015 12:57

spotty I think it depends where you buy the paste. I get mine from local Thai store so its got a bit of a kick. And depending on the brand I can sometimes have to calm it down with a lot of palm sugar.

But I've bought it from m&s before and it's been super mild. I find that with Thai citrus m&s tend to verge on the "what would the average middle class white frightened of everything "forrin" like" so it's fairly safe.

That said its a lovely tasty curry. I think (always get it confused with Penang) it's gingery and coconutty and should have potatoes in it. And it's so warming. Yummm

Ememem84 · 31/08/2015 12:58

collie I hate that. When I run out of stuff to sell. So annoying.

I've just taken a leap and have listed bikinis on eBay. Wasn't sure whether to or not. But it then sell....

Ememem84 · 31/08/2015 12:58

But if they sell....

Star2015 · 31/08/2015 13:00

Hi,

Can I join in please?

I've been lurking for a few months now. We decided to get a grip on our finances, we would spend hundreds each weekend shopping, clothes and other crp, we could by now be living in a much bigger house, but instead we're still in our box which is filled to the brim of the crp we used to buy!!

But... No more, we've got a proper budget, and we are now saving my salary as well as any extra money DH brings home from OT.

We're being very thrifty now, selling things on eBay, we did a car boot a few weeks ago, shopping at Ald* planning our menu around the veg and meat on offer. We've cut down on lots of things enabling us to save.

This website and MSE has been my saviour, NSD's are a revaluation!!

I've been poorly this weekend, haven't been out at all. My friend visited yesterday and brought us a chicken dinner which we will have for lunch, and my parents have just visited and brought DH a paper and me some chocolate, so a NSD today but we have nice goodies ????

Meal plan this week -

Monday - chicken dinner / soup or sandwich for tea
Tuesday - packed lunch / fish (frozen) with jacket potato
Wednesday - packed lunch / meatballs and pasta
Thursday - packed lunch / marinated pork belly and couscous
Friday - packed lunch / chicken curry fakeaway with naan and rice

Looking forward to joining in, sorry for such a long first post!

Freeandsinglewater · 31/08/2015 13:01

I have loads of DS clothes to sell, but I'm a bit scared of selling them on eBay. I have no idea what I'm doing!

Collieputthekettleon · 31/08/2015 13:07

Free we only started doing it last month and made £60 in 2 weeks! Haven't had any grumpy buyers yet [touch wood]

Star welcome! What a great start you've made on being frugal. NSD's are brilliant! I'm heading for a No Spend Week. But I am rather scared. Did it once before Grin

PeoniesforMissAnnersley · 31/08/2015 13:12

Free it's definitely worth it, we paid off a lot of debt last year and when we were in the throes of it I made about £500 selling pretty much everything I could think of on eBay. It can be a hassle but if you do it in batches so all the auctions end on the same day and you can post on the same day it's not too bad.
Be careful with postage - I lost a few ££ by estimating postage too low at the start!

GreenWalls · 31/08/2015 13:30

Hi everyone - I have just started a trial of YNAB but I am really struggling with it.

I have an overdraft of a few hundred pounds (which I am trying to pay off but at the moment we are basically living off my overdraft month to month). So I need YNAB to make the overdraft smaller each month rather than save money in a checking account if you know what I mean.
It is my main bank account. How do I put it in?? It wants only an account in credit but then it doesn't work!!!
