Thanks. For some reason I thought it would be more. My life insurance would be as I have so much medically wrong with me but dh is the main earner and he's (touch wood) fit as a fiddle Grin

CremeEggThief · 14/07/2015 18:54

NSD. Just about to have spaghetti lentil Bolognese for dinner, yum!

AuditAngel · 14/07/2015 19:07

£13.35 today for lunch, my dinner and some party food for the DC school party on Thursday.

Our house insurance is about £60 a month, but we have a big house (about 2,500 sq ft) and high contents cover.

Our life insurance is about £28 for me (£240k) and about £50 for DH but his cover is higher (£400k) as I also have death in service cover through work for £240k.

SpottyTeacakes · 14/07/2015 19:14

Our house (if we ever buy it) would have a value of about £215,000 and we could need a mortgage for about £135,000 so shouldn't need a massive life insurance policy? Dh's would always be void if it was a work accident as they don't know the meaning of health and safety Hmm

Pointlessfan · 14/07/2015 19:17

Wow! This thread is busy today! Welcome to all the newcomers and welcome back fuzz I was wondering how you were getting on with the home ed.
Back to birthday cards, the Card Factory do 10 for a pound. The adult ones are a bit naff but the kids' ones are fine.
NSD today, good job as the last few days have been spendy and I have physio tomorrow which will be £40. Knee starting to feel slightly better though.
I'm also compiling a list of things to do in the holidays but struggling as DD is only one so can't do a lot of things yet. She likes dusting! Other than that I'm hoping we can play in the garden and go to the park a lot.

wheelycote · 14/07/2015 19:30

spotty life ins 14.00 for critical illness and life. Contents ins (I'm a renter saving for deposit) paid 78.03 through topcashback and due to get 50.00 cash back (seems an absolute steal or if they had a glitch in the system. I'm over the moon!!!! Contents ins is through AXA)

loving all the school holiday ideas!!!!Smile

wheelycote · 14/07/2015 19:33

Oooo and just to add....have saved on the loo seat...have fixed it...very bizarre flimsy connectors....thought they looked snapped, turns out they were meant to look like that.

SpottyTeacakes · 14/07/2015 19:33

Wheely amazing tcb deal I think I only got £21 on my mine!

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/07/2015 20:11

turn Well done on the insurance, amazing how it comes down when you do a comparison isnt it?. Rip off merchants will do anything to get out of paying too.

£3 morrisons
£2 sainsbos
£2 lidl.

Dh got me some jeans for my birthday and about a week later they were £17 cheaper in the sale so I made him return them and I bought a new pair at sale price. Picked them up today & got a free 2lt screenwash on my O2 priority moments from halfords.

Our insurances on top of the mortgage are £72.28 each month not sure if that's a lot compared to the average though, we live in the South east just outside London

Lovetoknit · 14/07/2015 21:06

My kids are DS10 (well almost 11, birthday next month), DD9 and DD6.
I guess the biggest expense for next month is the new uniform and PE kit for DS and some parts of uniform and shoes for the girls. I hope this time we can find shoes which will last at least a term.

lilacclery · 14/07/2015 21:09

Flowers Electrolux sorry to hear your sad news.

There was a tragic death in Ireland today of a 3 year old boy...I'm cuddling mine tight tonight.

My new iPhone arrived & won't even charge...refund or replace what should I expect? It comes with 7 day checking guarantee & 12 month warranty

candybar · 14/07/2015 21:14

Lovetoknit - I have a 12 year old ds, 9 yo did and 7 year old ds. I also have a fair old list of uniform to purchase, I did buy dd1 a pair of doc marten Mary Jane style shoes just after Christmas, they still look brand new and have virtually zero wear to the soles, well worth it as we were buying a new pair every half term in clarks!

SpottyTeacakes · 14/07/2015 21:18

I bought dd a pair of kickers and they're still going strong, she's had them since she started in September.

Passthecake30 · 14/07/2015 22:52

Hmmm my dd has worn right through her clarks, what are the kickers like for width as she has slim (E) feet?

About to pay my car tax.

avocadotoast · 14/07/2015 23:21

Hello Smile I think I've posted occasionally on previous threads but could do with staying on top of things a little better as my income had dropped now I'm on maternity leave.

We're not doing too badly on the whole but my current battle is getting DH to sort his bloody credit card out. The balance isn't massively high (think it's about £1,000ish) but the 0% rate ran out in January and he still hasn't shifted it Angry I worked out that if he carries on with the minimum payments he'd be dead before he paid it off! And it means we're paying £15 a month in interest completely unnecessarily.

Anyone have any tips on getting him to sort it? I've tried telling him he'll never pay it off, that it's ridiculous for us to be spending this money we don't need to; I've even found 0% balance transfer deals for him! I think he thinks it's not a big deal but it drives me up the wall. I think it's partly because my job is in dealing with debt so I'm very aware of different products etc.

SpottyTeacakes · 15/07/2015 06:02

Pass I don't know about the shoes I assume they're fairly wide. Dd has v narrow feet too but I got her the boots with Velcro straps as they fit her insoles in nicely.

You need to pay at least 10% off of a credit card in order to ever be able to pay it off. Don't know what you can do if he won't listen ????

Myturnnow4 · 15/07/2015 06:25

Do the payments come out of his spending money avocado or family money? It's a bit puzzling and disheartening if he refuses to budge on this.

Myturn everything just comes out of our joint account, it's just another bill we have. It's so frustrating because he knows it needs sorting and whenever I mention it he says he will sort it but just never does!

avocadotoast · 15/07/2015 07:02

I should add the payments aren't massive, we're talking £30ish a month. But if it was on a 0% rate £30 a month would get things cleared quicker than at the moment!

I just do all the finance in our house, as DH is not inclined to do so, he's very good at earning it though Grin

audit I think you might be paying too much maybe for your household insurance? Our house is larger than yours and we have unlimited contents insurance, and pay half what you do!

Sorry, it's been a mad busy few days so I have fallen by the wayside a touch in terms of the thread. I have remained frugal though, so we are doing ok for the month.

Going to the Great Yorkshire Show today, the DC are allowed to take the time off as we live in a rural area and many of the kids from the school are involved agriculturally anyway, so the school sanctions. They break up on Friday anyway, so I am fairly relaxed about them having the time off.

Already made a big pack up too to save money but will allow treats.
