Collie we need a bucket list of cheap summer activities too. My DCs are 10 & 7 and the requests seem to be getting more and more expensive Confused

All suggestions welcome, we live in a pretty rural area

Another newbie :-)
I am looking for some free/cheap activities with kids this summer apart from going to the beach and visiting local National trust places (luckily we have a family membership so it's free)

We have NT family membership too, although have cancelled renewal for next April as we barely use it.

Will make concerted effort to investigate properties to visit this summer

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 14/07/2015 12:15

Hello. Was on the thread in Jan or Feb but fell off it.

Not doing too badly at the moment. Managed to save the amount I wanted to by the end of March and have got out of the habit of panicking and putting the last food shop of the month on the cc.

Bit stuffed by the new budget though so need to make some cut backs.

Lovetoknit · 14/07/2015 13:09

Yes we are in the south west too colliewobles83
I hope the weather is good this summer as it makes it easier to entertain our kids, they enjoy playing and helping in the garden but need to find some fun and cheap things to do for rainy days
We have already signed up last weekend at the library for their summer reading challenge

Outwith · 14/07/2015 13:24

That's a great list collie, thanks Smile.

Outwith · 14/07/2015 13:27

Except except every day is a LEGO day already here Grin.

Myturnnow4 · 14/07/2015 13:39

One hour's work just saved me £250 on the house and contents insurance renewal Smile

Thanks for the welcome.

I've spent £30.01 on petrol today, I was hoping for a nsd but the petrol light came on halfway to work so I had to fill up. I finish work next Wednesday so made sure I put enough petrol in to get me to and from work for the next week or so. I've also ordered dd2 school PE kit and school socks which cost £30.95, I still need to order cardigans and some other bits but I'll do that after next payday.

Not planning on spending/buying anything else until the Tesco shop is delivered on Thursday afternoon.

Just having half an hour to myself before collecting the girls from school.

Hope everyone's having a good day!

Lottie4 · 14/07/2015 14:55

I'm a newbie to.

Another cheap thing for the hols is to invite your DC's friend for the day or a sleepover. They'll be happy with a sandwich and a basic tea if there's the offer of some biscuits (or chocolate) and crisps (can both be value or shop brand!). Sports, games, art things, old DVD, or a local walk or trip to the park can all be done fairly cheap. If you have older ones, give me a couple of pounds and they'll be happy to potter off and spend it in your local supermarket/corner shop.

I'll be spending loads in Lidl this week, went yesterday and today spending £19 so far. I do my food shopping on foot, so trying to top up on loads of cans, cereals to save dragging DD there too much in the holidays, as it's further away than Tescos.

Luckily for me I think I only have to buy blouses, skirts, trousers, tights and school shoes this year - problem is it'll be the whole lot next year including a £58 blazer!

Still getting over this darn cold grhh...makes me want to treat myself with lots of nice things but so far have managed a NSD Grin

SpottyTeacakes · 14/07/2015 18:10

Nsd.

Dinner was bacon and lentil soup, delicious even if I do say so myself Wink

Dd seems a bit under the weather, hoping it's just end of term catching up with her.

sportinguista · 14/07/2015 18:10

Keep falling off thread!

I've been stupidly busy and it seems that way for a while. This is good as I am earning more money, but I use this thread to focus me on saving and I too easily fail at that if I don't hold myself accountable.

Not an NSD but LSD. Frugal wins this month - haven't had to do a monthly shop so less going out in that respect, tomatos and courgettes in garden are going to be coming soon plus peas are ready to harvest, one of my clients is giving me a weight loss coaching course free.

Fails - got birthdays and days out coming plus summer holidays!!

SpottyTeacakes · 14/07/2015 18:16

Those with mortgage, how much are your insurances (house, life, etc) that you have to have on top of that? Just musing. dreaming

girliefriend · 14/07/2015 18:21

Hi all, blimey this thread is moving at quite a pace!! Grin

Am liking all the summer holiday ideas, I have 3 weeks off over the hols and at the moment not a lot planned. Was thinking might try and get a last min b&b in Weymouth for a night or two, think Monkey World is quite near by and dd and I would love to go Wink

Am also thinking bike rides, picnics, pond dipping (dd loves this!) there is quite a few free/cheap things going on at the local library and museum. Am also planning on decorating the kitchen!! We are South West as well Smile

Dd currently at a party so eerily quiet around here Grin

Managed another nsd.

574ejones · 14/07/2015 18:28

Second NSD in a row - feeling virtuous!

Love the summer bucket lists. My kids are older, but one of the things that really used to cheer them up was a trip to a non-local play area/playground. Nothing like new playground equipment, check out new housing estates for example.

babsmam · 14/07/2015 18:29

I'm not really sure line as I don't have a usage thing. I didn't notice a big hike in my leccy dd though.
