Ha! Always the way isn't it Adora?

Sounds busy northender with all that cricket.

Well, I can't decide whether I have had a frugal fail or not. I've been buying cheap shampoo and conditioner for months now. At first, my hair was fine with this but it seems to have got drier and drier and less well conditioned. Enough to make my hairdresser remark on the fact.

So, I have had to buy more expensive shampoo and conditioner today while I had my hair cut at £10 a bottle in an attempt to try and get it back to some degree of order.

Sometimes wonder if frugality in some areas is false frugality.

AdoraBell · 06/07/2015 15:53

Thanks Spotty sorry you had a rotten time.

Sometimes it is Need, I tried a cheaper supermarket's brand of canned/frozen foods. Not worth even the cheap price. Hope your hair recovers. I saw a tip on an S&B thread, poster said to use conditioner first then half the amount of shampoo. Said every few weeks do once as normal with more shampoo, then back to conditioner before shampoo. It has helped my hair, might work for you too?

And yep, always the way! Glad I have it though as I hate having to ask DH for money. Not that it's an issue, I just need to not feel dependent.

spotty I am sure that no one thought you were a crap mum. Who cares what they think anyway! Days like that can be quite isolating.

574ejones · 06/07/2015 18:13

Spotty so sorry you have had a rough day.

£12 on gift.

girliefriend · 06/07/2015 18:20

Needa yes they fitted it for her but tbh i had done a bit of research before hand so knew what to look for size and fit wise, plus that she would need a level 3 etc. I had a look for an equastrian shop locally other than there and couldn't find one which seems weird considering we are a county town and lots of horsey people about!!

Spotty thats rough, I have felt like that before it is rubbish Sad hope you have had some Brew and Cake now.

Right I am off to parents evening, wish me luck Wink

NSD today Smile

Sorry to hear about your day spotty Flowers
NSD for me. Just got back from work, tired after a weekend away with all the kids and a long day today and I feel like DD is starting to like/want daddy more as I've been away so much Sad

girliefriend · 06/07/2015 20:53

Pointless I am sure thats not the case, children go through phases of preferring one parent over another ime. With my dd she went through a phase of always wanting nanny when she got upset, it was hard but I tried really hard not to take it personally. When she 18 months or so she started to call me the cms name rather than mummy which stung a bit as well Grin

The joys of being a working mum eh?!

Parents evening was a mixed bag tbh, academically doing o.kay, spellings need a bit of work but also there were a few comments about attitude and behaviour which was disappointing.

babsmam · 06/07/2015 21:29

Ah spotty sorry sports day was rubbish.

Spendy day
11 on once sun cream enough to last to end of term I apologise if the weather is now shite until schools break up you can blame me.
3.70 on fitness
5 gelish removal
90 in sainsbury on a new iron, fruit and fresh stuff, also got a new food processor as very reduced and mine has been limping along, also a new flask as dh broke his work one.
That's it for the week except about a tenner for fitness, parking and beavers.

Nsw wish me luck

Thanks girlie that's made me feel better. DH has been making jokey comments about being her favourite which hasn't helped! To be fair, he's really good at all the domestic stuff, over the weekend he'd managed to clean the house, do all the washing and cook several meals as well as all the childcare. Starting to think the wrong one is going part time! How old is your DD?
Babs I don't care if the weather is crap up to the end of term so long as it's good in the holidays!
I need some shorts now for physio appointment. Would they think it was weird if I wore DH's footie shorts? They might be a bit big!

girliefriend · 06/07/2015 22:16

I saw some shorts in primark which were about £3 I think!! Your dh sounds like he is enjoying winding you up a bit, your dd needs and loves both of you very much I promise Smile My dd is 9yo now, have found the time has gone scarily fast since she started school. How old is your dd?

SpottyTeacakes · 07/07/2015 05:39

Thanks everyone. I know it's a silly thing to get upset about and I feel a bit like a five year old, but why don't they want to be my friend?! I'm sure I'm not that annoying BlushSad

Girlie could the attitude/behaviour be because she struggles with her sensory issues? Or just her age? Pushing the boundaries at school?

I took some strong pills last night for a trapped nerve and I've woken up feeling really dizzy. I have to leave in 20 minutes!

Should be nsd number 2 today.

I need to buy dd some new pinafores for next year I looked at the school's second hand ones but they were all bobbly!

AuditAngel · 07/07/2015 06:07

Morning all, Spotty sorry you had a rubbish sports day. Ours is juniors in the morning, primary in the afternoon, picnic lunch (we provide our own). This year only had to be there for the morning. Spent the time with a group of mums, mostly from the other class and had a whale of a time, so much so that I completely missed one of DD1's races as too busy talking!

I finally plucked up the courage to inspect my credit card bill before I paid it. It was a lot higher than normal. I knew there were a couple of holiday costs on it, plus the new fridge, but even so... Turns out when we were ordering the "free" Waterloo coins (actually £2.50 postage) and DH was considering getting the whole set, the lovely company charged me for the entire set at £428.35. When we got an email confirmation, after not going all the way through to the end, we emailed to cancel, they said too late, just send it back. It never arrived, we emailed to say can't return it, it never arrived. I wondered why they weren't more bothered, now I know. Angry

I'm now going to have to raise a charge back on my card.

Submitted our healthcare dash back claims. DH should get about £320-£350 (I can't remember the dental limit as it changed last year) and I am due back about £285, again, can't remember the dental and eye care limits now.

AuditAngel · 07/07/2015 06:14

Also yesterday, we checked what we would get back in taxes if we cancel our flights to Greece. We paid about £1,980 for tickets for 6 of us (5 of us plus DH's cousin, she paid me back for hers) but if we cancel we'll get back about €280!

Just about enough to pay for the Eurotunnel to go to Spain instead.

We are in watch and wait mode. Obviously concerned about having enough food and petrol while away. We are hearing that things are normal in the islands, so we might just have to go to the islands for a few days! DH's cousin has suggested we take a load of rice and pasta with us just to know we can feed ourselves, even if it is boring stuff. Currently we have 2 suitcases booked on the flight, plus we can all rake a carry on (although we only have 3 for 5 of us) the plan was for me to take one, and DH to take one when he comes out later, perhaps DS can have one with2 sacks of pasta!

lilacclery · 07/07/2015 06:18

spotty sorry to hear about your day yesterday. The village which I married into is like that, even after you've been here for 40 years you're still an outsider!

Luckily I know a few people now so there's someone to Say hi to at events.
Read advice on another thread about getting to know a granny type where you live, you learn what's going on & they introduce you to people.

babsmam · 07/07/2015 06:42

Spotty I think sainsbury will be doing a 25% off soon which includes uniform if you can do that.
Girlie if it's anything like my physio they don't care they just need to see the movement without the limb covered while keeping modesty intact.
Nsd 1 today coming up.

NK5BM3 · 07/07/2015 07:22

Sorry to hear about your day spotty. Sometimes women are their worst enemies. Blush

Spent £11 on dd's haircut yesterday and £23 at Asian shop.

Thanks everyone. I know the mums they just never make an effort with me. I sat near one I've texted and dd's had a playdate with her dd (we both stayed for lunch) but she was with other people she knew. There's less than fifty families in the school so everyone knows each other iyswim. It also doesn't help that I'm 28 and the other mums are all early 40s.

NSD for me today - yippee!

Spotty I never managed to break through that boundary with other mums at the school gates. I always felt like an outsider because I have always been a working mum, but then I never made much effort to get involved either. Why don't you invite one back to yours for coffee and take it from their?

Well done Collie on getting out and about and meeting new people.
