It's something I've rarely done ipsos. What do you enjoy about it?! (I'm hoping it's a different woman to the one who saw me in floods of tears and snot last week when my partner and I closed the joint account. Although, perhaps not).

I have a question about baking Do you think it really is more frugal to bake our own bread and biscuits etc?

Myturnnow4 · 13/07/2015 07:52

Sorry, meant to acknowledge unescorted's post too [flower]

SpottyTeacakes · 13/07/2015 07:53

I find lots of baking very expensive. But things like scones and flapjacks are cheap as I always have the ingredients.

I always open new accounts online I love getting shiny new cards Grin

I forgot I need to post my eBay sales today but dh has got my bank card Hmm

Myturnnow4 · 13/07/2015 07:53

(Sorry, still getting used to these!).

Myturnnow4 · 13/07/2015 08:00

I have just done the test that 574ejones linked to. I'm a "Secure Saver". I think the description is very accurate (and the rejected descriptions similarly very inaccurate for me). I'm at "moderate risk" of money troubles, which I think is to be expected given the last week.

Thanks for linking, it's given me a lot of food for thought as to how my relationship breakdown has made me very anxious (not quite the word I'm after) about my financial security.

laska welcome back! Until you pointed that out about July thread I hadn't even noticed!!

I really need to knuckle down & seeing as I bought YNAB last year and can't use it on my phone due to some technical issue with dropbox my mission for next fortnight is to get that resolved properly. I'm inspired by people paying debt off quickly with it.

So yesterday was a lsd unexpectedly, weather wasn't great so instead of lots of spends at last day of local festival we met friends at softplay €14, ds has gotten more expensive now because he can run around! Ouch Grin
Then we ate our picnic and afterwards bought icecream from venue, this is a fab venue with playground, walks, swans to feed, picnic benches and option of purchasing or bringing own food. Kids are loving picnics at the moment as am I! Had a bit of envy at friends picnic hamper but turns out it was bought in aldi so I may get one(one off spend at cost probably of one persons meal at a lunch out - that's ok isn't it? SmileSmile
Dinner was also a picnic - cooked burgers at home, wrapped in foil, brought drinks along and bought a portion of chips to share €3, saving about €20.

Kids didn't show any interest in fairground rides so they weren't encouraged either saving another €10! Sure that's my picnic hamper paid for Grin

Tomorrow is a trip to Dublin to hospital with ds so will be spends on diesel and food. It'll be a long day so picnic won't do! Maybe a dinner for lunch and we'd be ok until we got home then, will see.

Impressed fluffy with money back from bank and money from company as well!

I need recipes for breadmaker, mine is an ornament!

lilacclery · 13/07/2015 08:24

unescorted sorry to hear things aren't going well for your mom, and that it's causing aggro in the family too in a time when ye need each other more than ever.

I've moderate risk of money troubles as have a few bad money habits according to iwonder test..can't argue with that

SpottyTeacakes · 13/07/2015 08:28

I'm also a secure saver with moderate risk of money troubles. Probably because I don't have anything to save Grin

NK5BM3 · 13/07/2015 09:19

Hello laska! Welcome back! Glad to hear you got a tan! Pictures!! Grin

Sorry to hear about your mum unescorted. Why don't you let them be for a while, and when things settle down, the competitive males can see who's doing the caring...!

It was my birthday yesterday. And v spendy! Dh started off with McDonald's breakfast in bed! And then we went to big mall near ours to pick out a lovely necklace for me (and it was buy one get one free!) so we got another one! Smile Lunch and dinner out. Probably £120 all in all? Oh and £12 on pedelos which was great fun for us and the kids.

Today will be frugal. Brought lunch to work!

lilacclery · 13/07/2015 09:40

NK5BM3 belated birthday wishes
dd5 was admiring pedalos yesterday - next fine day maybe! They're quite good value at centre we were at yesterday €10 for 30 mins, 5 people.

Pics of necklaces!

Happy birthday for yesterday NK!

Collie that's crappy Sad fingers crossed for next month.

£1.80 on biscuits and chocolate Blush
£8.20 posting eBay bits. Feel bad as I charged over £15 in total but I only went with what eBay suggested....

SpottyTeacakes · 13/07/2015 10:32

£107 on two new front tyres. Yuck.

babsmam · 13/07/2015 11:35

my bread maker is only fit for making pizza dough the actual bread is vile. The bread dough is not too bad if i shape it and cook it in the oven myself. I just dont have time to make it all by hand.

just shopped about for dog insurance and saved £73. i do wonder about insuring him as he is 16 but i guess thats the gamble, my car insurance is fine. the renewal is competitive do im just going to let it roll over.

welcome back laska, happy birthday NK

going to pop over to B&M in a mo as i need some tuna and files to sort out my filing cabinet.

Dh doesn't have a pension. He says he can't afford it Hmm even if he paid in a small amount it would be worth it though wouldn't it? His work don't offer one.

lilacclery · 13/07/2015 14:00

I've a little small pension which work pay into, I plan to contribute once I've cleared my debt - I feel this is ok as I'm just 32. Dh has nothing, no savings towards retirement either and is almost 20 years my senior, he will be dependent on me & government pension.

SpottyTeacakes · 13/07/2015 14:03

Dh's boss only employs two people so not sure? It'll just be his boss and him soon

Myturnnow4 · 13/07/2015 14:06

I too thought that employers had to offer pensions. It certainly seems the easiest way of going about something so important.

I am the queen of Piggybanking today. Have reboosted my ISA by making a deposit, I have opened a regular savings account with HSBC's Save Together offer and opened a current account just for bills to go out of. When I got to the branch it turned out to be the wrong kind of branch, so I came home and did it by phone. 90 minutes it took.

Next job is insurances, only quite a few are currently in joint names and will require both of us to be able to cancel them.

SpottyTeacakes · 13/07/2015 14:13

Well done Myturn.

Today I have:

Had a toy cull
Hoovered (these aren't frugal but needed to be done Grin)
Cancelled a credit card which I haven't used for years Blush
Submitted meter readings (in debit but that's expected after winter as we're all electric, only by £78)
Emailed school to say dd wants to continue with the universal fsm next year
Bought ds some good as new converse for £12 on eBay
Going to make tarka daal for dinner which is super cheap

Phew I'm exhausted
