And 12 on 4 pillows from argos - reduced from 36 and used some nectar points.

Hello, I have been lurking about for a while but decided it's time to join. Our overdraft went very much in the wrong direction last month so I have instigated a serious low budget, no-spending November to try and sort out our bad spending habits.

So far it seems to be going ok. Have managed to stick to the grocery budget for the week and had a no spend day today.

I am just trying to get over the slight feeling of nervousness of knowing I can't spend any more on food or stuff this week at all. I know that sounds a bit odd when I have meal planned and know we have enough, but I still somehow feel I should be buying more food or have forgotten something vitally important. Confused

NSD on Monday, Tuesday and today. The benefits of working. Plus, I managed to wrangle an extra £75 a week from the agency. Smile

AuditAngel · 05/11/2014 22:10

I haven't posted for a few days, I seem to recall posting on Monday. Tuesday would have been NSD, but I ordered DS a pair of dance shoes £10.99.

Today, £3 for 2 rain ponchos the kids need for the parade on Saturday, need to reimburse another mum tomorrow (so must get out cash).

£5 for DD1's karate lesson. £20 for her grading which is due next week, but I am working in London so her teacher graded her alone after class tonight ??

MrsHuxtableReturns · 05/11/2014 22:40

NSD today!

RobinEllacott · 05/11/2014 22:44

Expensive day here today. £55 on a haircut and £14 on lunch and Tube fares. Ballet in the evening but bought the ticket months ago, so I'm not counting that.

Any tips (other than packed lunches, which I should do but keep failing to organise ) on reducing the costs of working life? I need to look tidy, wear suits, have tidy hair etc to look right at work, but it all costs money!

AdoraBell · 06/11/2014 01:11

Welcome To all newbies. It definitely takes a while To Get into the mind set of frugality but once you do you'll wonder what madness made you buy so much before.

Over Spent in the shop Today, had To wait in all afternoon so ended up shopping with DDs in tow and it came To about £34- ish.

Just had a frugal fáil. Broke a much loved mug of DH's which the DDs bought him, haven't told him yet. I'll have To Go into town To Get a replacement so it will have To wait úntil next week.

I'm hoping for 2 NSDs now, maybe 4 if I can avoid buying at the weekend.

lilacclery · 06/11/2014 05:36

€1.40 on chocolate yesterday that I didn't need!
Guy borrowed my car Jack & threw me €10, gave it to a work colleague to buy us treats for Fri eve, as everyone in the office had a hand in helping him out .

Need diesel today, was trying to stretch it out in order to use my 10c off per litre from Tesco on Sat.

SpottyTeacakes · 06/11/2014 06:10

Dd needs a warm waterproof coat for a school trip. It's annoying as she already has two coats but although they're warm they're no good if you get stuck in a downpour (like we did Monday and we all got drenched) so got to try and find one of those!

Sixforgold · 06/11/2014 07:18

NSD yesterday! 3/15! And that included an evening out (amazing free fireworks display and found free parking)

Today will be quite spendy though as I've saved all of my errands for today!

Robin what are the charity shops like round your way? I am lucky and live somewhere quite affluent so the charity shops have some really good stuff in. I had an interview a few weeks ago and managed to get a jigsaw suit jacket and M&S suit dress for under £30. Both looked as good as new.

I tend to think of charity shops as only being good for casual stuff but will now be looking to get my smart work clothes for the new job in them too. Now I just have to get around to replacing my broken iron so I can stop looking so crumpled Hmm

northender · 06/11/2014 12:05

Welcome to all newbies. This is such a supportive thread, stick with it.

Having a relatively low spend week although that could be blown out of the water later as my car is in the garage AGAIN! I think it's a wheel bearing that needs replacing so hopefully won't be too costly. I would really love a different car but can't afford to change it just yet.

Frugal things I'm doing: I did the big tesco order for our group holiday last week so I have a £9.50 price promise voucher to use. Also a fuel discount voucher for 16p a litre off. We don't normally shop at Tesco but need to make sure I use both of these. When the pil visited a few weeks ago, I bought some bottles of beer from Booths but a couple tasted off so today I took the 2 empty bottles back and 2 other full ones and got their value in groceries.

Marzipanface · 06/11/2014 12:15

can I join?

Today is a NSD for me. Dunno about husband!

SpottyTeacakes · 06/11/2014 13:07

I've spent too much Blush going to make up for it by doing a really cheap food shop. I only bought stuff we needed though Blush

OhForFoxSakeYourPullingMyChain · 06/11/2014 14:18
