I have been buying this for years and suddenly occured to me just how much I love it and how little it costs!

Tesco everyday value hair gel 15p! It's not too sticky, nice smell and fits in my hall table drawer :)

What do you love that costs very little?

squiggle and mary you're right. Moved to UK from Ireland a few years ago, and spent the first six months expostulating around supermarkets at how much cheaper almost everything is. (But you can't get chickatees over here, and you have to order Ballymaloe tomato relish online . . .)

Waitrose Essentials Extra Mature Grated Chedder. Currently on offer at about £1.50 and really tasty.

Sainsbury's Basics Hot Chocolate powder. When I've had to buy branded hot chocolate if we've been on holiday and aren't near a Sainsbury's, or have gone on an emergency evening trip to the garage, it's such a disappointment. I don't know how the basics one is so much nicer, but it is (as verified by any visitor to my house in winter months). And fairtrade, too.

mrsnicholls · 14/10/2014 13:37

We like value crumpets from tesco.
Value pesto from morrisons was pretty good.
Value cream cheese from any supermarket. My lot prefer tesco value tomato soup and salad cream too.
On my SILs recommendation I've started using Aldi laundry tab thingies and they are great...even with a serial bed wetter in the house.

HelenaVagBasket · 14/10/2014 13:39

Asda smart price dark chocolate. Less than £1.

FullOfChoc · 14/10/2014 14:39

Tesco cream crackers 27p

Tesco value milk chocolate digestives, sweet and yummy! 47p I think.

ForcesSweetheart · 14/10/2014 15:05

I go to lidl specifically for their cheese coleslaw and Classic Cream Cheese. Makes philly and store brands taste so bad.

Gatekeeper · 14/10/2014 16:12

my dh got obsessed with their cheese coleslaw this time last year- he was eating a tub a day and getting tetchy if there was none in the house! Now in recovery Grin

WorldAltlas · 14/10/2014 16:24

Waitrose chocolate/strawberry ice cream cones, pack of 6 £1.36, tastes amazing, much nicer than cornetto but less calories.

charmund · 14/10/2014 17:40

Tesco's value caramel wafers - 24p for 5 and they are delicious (just eating one to check they haven't gone off - they haven't!) They also have the same "points" value as the very expensive version sold by a well known weight loss company Smile

DoAndroidsDream · 14/10/2014 17:57

Tesco value battered fish portions, 4 for 85p, value chips 1kg for 82p, value frozen peas. You get 4 servings for £2.65 with chips and peas left over.

MeAndMySpoon · 14/10/2014 18:25

Can I take the piss a bit with a Twatrose item? Grin Waitrose 'Essentials' Raspberry Jam (seedy not seedless). Under a quid a jar and infinitely more raspberry-y than Bonne Maman, Tiptree etc. I always use it in my ahemprizewinning VSCs. I've never made homemade raspberry jam because of the price of PYO raspberries and the excellentness of this jam I can buy for about 98p.

BettyFocker · 14/10/2014 18:30

Sainsbury's Basics plain naan bread. They taste just as good as branded and only cost 55p. You get two in a pack so it's perfect me, DH and DS (DS and I share one)

Sainsbury's Basics chocolate digestives are lovely too. I always buy value/basics biscuits.

BettyFocker · 14/10/2014 18:35

Oh and Sainsbury's Basics lamb breast. It's a bit hit and miss. I shop online and twice it's been a lovely big rolled breast. Last week it was just a roll of fat and I had to chuck it. Costs between £3-4 I think. It's enough for two adults and one child. I cooked it for 2 and a half hours at 140c (fan) with carrots, onions and lamb stock. It falls apart. There's quite a bit of fat to cut off but the meat is delicious. Lamb is usually out of our budget except when we splash out on a leg of lamb at Easter.

Lots of things at Aldi.

Hummus and guacamole especially, and bags of cashews and almonds.

Sainsburys basics ready grated mozzarella is fab for pizza, and basics pittas which I think are only cheaper because they are that bit smaller, but makes them ideal for my small DS

FullOfChoc · 14/10/2014 21:30

Tesco value toffees and chocolate eclairs.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 14/10/2014 23:18

Marking thread! This has cheered me up. I'll soon be on a tight budget for food and groceries (first house!!) so this will be invaluable. Thank you everyone!

My contributions are - Sainsbury's value chocolate (35p for a big bar and great for scoffing when premenstrual cooking), Daisy dishwasher powder (if you can still get the powder, it's SO much cheaper than tablets), and most Asda "chosen by you" stuff. I font know which of You chose it, but You chose very well.

ILovedYouYesterday · 15/10/2014 00:27

I love Aldi fake pringles especially the sour cream ones. They don't taste quite the same as real pringles but I prefer them as I find the real ones a bit overpowering.

Aldi fake mars bars are nice too (have to hide them!)

Also happy with Aldi washing power, I use the non-bio one and it seems to do the job.

PigletJohn · 15/10/2014 00:55

Aldi had the Specially Selected mince pies in stock today. They usually come out top of the "Which" tests, and better than Fortnum's at ten times the price.

I can only think they do it to get their name in the media and tempt in the snooty Which-reading buyers. They can't be making a profit on the pies at that price and that quality.

pulibear · 15/10/2014 08:11

Madame glamour is really LOVELY and lasts all day long. For the price it is truly amazing.

hottoddyplease · 15/10/2014 10:25

Agree with WorldAltlas about Waitrose fake cornettos - a bit more than Sainsbury's but MUCH nicer. However the holy grail of fake cornettos are Aldi's mint ones - absolutely gorgeous!
Basics tuna from Sainsbury's - still pole & line fished, but affordable.
I don't buy budget budget chocolate as we buy Fairtrade but both Aldi and Sainsbury's are good for that.
Sainsbury's basics fish fingers are my number one all-time bargain buy - 68p or something for 10, proper fish, and my son and I adores them.

KirjavaTheCat · 15/10/2014 10:27

Any value chicken noodles. Mmm.
