I have been buying this for years and suddenly occured to me just how much I love it and how little it costs!

Tesco everyday value hair gel 15p! It's not too sticky, nice smell and fits in my hall table drawer :)

What do you love that costs very little?

Tinned potatoes are now on my shopping list - thanks for the inspiration!

digger123 · 05/10/2014 12:03

They're on mine too...

SenatusPopulusqueRomanorum · 05/10/2014 12:18

Lidl shampoo and conditioner for dried and damaged hair (the pink one). My hair has never looked so healthy and shiny.

Aprilissa · 05/10/2014 12:39

Wow Tinned potatoes are on mine too!Smile

Asda, Chosen By You, Pineapple and Coconut Sparkling Mineral Water. 1 Litre. 39p
Asda Green Olive Bread. Fresh from the Bakery. 1 pound.
Asda, Extra Special, Tarte Au Citrone. Delicious. 2 to 3 pounds. Serves 1 5

Gatekeeper · 05/10/2014 13:24

"Speed" that Asda tarte citron only serves one....me Grin

SpeedofSound0 · 05/10/2014 13:40

Gatekeeper Grin

I love it, it is sharp, tangy and not too sweet. I know so many people who buy it now, through my recommendation. It has won top food awards too. Not surprising really because the Extra Special range is developed in partnership with (Prue) Leith's School of Cookery.

They used to do a fresh ham hock and pea soup, it was gorgeous. I've tried the Sainsbury's, Taste the Difference one and it tastes waaay too salty.

You beat me to Tesco 35p cream cleaner. It is amazing. I shall be making roast potatoes later. A quick squirt of this and (DH can) wash the enamel pan up like new.

I also like Tesco or Aldi cashews. I serve them in reused glass yoghurt pots ( Aldi).

wantacatplease · 05/10/2014 15:05

Senatus I'm glad you said about Lidl shampoo. I bought the really, really cheap Coconut shampoo and conditioner in there once and it made my hair like straw. Was gutted. But now I will try this pink one you speak of!

cafesociety · 05/10/2014 15:39

Lidl's Fin Carre whole hazelnut chocolate 59p.

Sainsbury's own toilet cleaner about 49p, works as well as any others.

Lidl's Towergate shortbread fingers 55p, delicious.

Lidl's sunflower or pumpkin seed topped rolls, 29p.

Co-op tinned mushy peas 29p.

digger123 · 05/10/2014 17:52

Anyone done any comparisons on clothes washing tablets - i.e. Persil vs Aldi's own?

catsmother · 05/10/2014 18:02

I discovered, just a couple of days ago, that Tesco are selling a litre of their own brand shower gel for 95p. That's under 24p for 250mls - the standard shower gel size. This isn't their 'basic' gel but their take-off of the Original Source brand - though the jumbo bottles only seem to come in coconut or tea tree varieties. What I don't understand is that the 250ml bottle also sells for 95p ..... so this is either a fantastic bargain or priced up wrongly in my local Tesco.

This is a great idea for a thread. I think there should be a separate thread for each supermarket for those with only one or two nearby.

With the food, are you all saying the quality is really good or just the taste or performance? I can see nuggets for tuppence ha'penny might taste nice but I would hazard a guess they wouldn't have much actual chicken in them Grin.

I have recently gone on to smart price and basic tinned/packet tomatoes and no one can tell the difference. Tried smart price cornflakes but the kids were not impressed.

mathanxiety · 05/10/2014 18:10

Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix (USA). 49 cents a box. The packaging looks as if it hasn't changed since 1934. Makes 9 nice muffins.

Aldi facial moisturiser/anti wrinkle cream, night and day varieties. Really cheap for a nice little jar. Lasts a long time and works very well.

Also Aldi chili beans in sauce and tomato paste.

Lots in Aldi really...

(I think if you take the exchange rate into account it works out only slightly more expensive in Ireland.)

I've used aldi, it was good but I switched to tesco basic because I only use it for whites & I bleach stains on whites so I don't need a strong powder iyswim.

What might swing it for you is that the big brands test on animals, then euthanise them to see the effects.

Tesco, asda et al own brand isn't tested on animals. Co-op is BUAV approved, as is ecover.

MykleeneArse · 05/10/2014 18:17

Another Tesco item. DH suffers from excema and psorasis. He swears by this. He used to use Sanex, and they had run out in boots, so I picked this up for him. Very gentle on his skin. Has risen from 23p to 46p in the last couple of years. Still a bargain though conpared to Sanex.

GailLondon - my children often have sardines on toast for Sunday tea. DH warms them in the microwave. Does that count as cooking for the kids to have the smart price ones? I normally buy own brand in Asda or Sains but not seen the basic range ones.

Honeezreturn · 05/10/2014 18:18

Lidl peanut butter, 79p huge jar and it's lovely

And Lidl limescale remover, it's fab, only £1 ish and bubbles and fizzes the limescale away

And my bestest buy from Lidl is wrinkle cream at £1.99 it has the same ingredients as more expensive creams on the market

BikeRunSki · 05/10/2014 18:18

Tesco everyday value shortbread fingers, 35p.

Aldi cheapest chocolate - the plain choc is 51% cocoa solids so that's more than Bourneville. It's fab for brownies. It's 30p for 100g :)

YY to Aldi choc eclairs (the sweeties) - ideal for the car at 27p a packet.

I do eat proper food too!

Sunnyshine · 05/10/2014 18:37

Tesco own brand gnocchi. 79p!

JLucky · 05/10/2014 18:41

Aldi packs of shelled nuts (walnuts, brazils, cashews, mixed nuts etc). Much cheaper than elsewhere, healthy and delicious. Smile
