Vaccine or not?

vaccineornot · 01/04/2025 19:46

I’m not sure if it’s possible to have a rational conversation about it but I’ll post!
I’ve had vaccines, missed my last as I was unwell and couldn’t rebook in time

I am doubting myself massively about whether I should have more or not
My doctor and consultant say basically “duh, yes, why wouldn’t you”

Social media seems to be (before anyone tells me not to listen, it’s every single person I see) that it’s a scam, a con, the vaccines don’t do anything, the more I have the higher the risk and the push NOT to have it is so strong that I’m thinking am I wrong to have it?
I just can’t seem to work out if I’m more at risk from Covid (which people are saying is a load of shit anyway) or more at risk from the vaccine (which everyone is saying is dangerous to health)

NC as I don’t want people thinking I’m an idiot for questioning myself

so what’s your reasoning for turning this thread into yet another rant against Covid vaccines? Justify why it’s appropriate for you to be completely hijacking the thread with comments like:

“Good job the government didn't do that when rolling out the vaccine to the whiole population regardless of personal medical circumstance”

what the hell has the government got to do with the OP’s dilemma? What have your demands for links and god knows what else got to do with the OP’s dilemma? Why, even knowing the OP is in an entirely different situation to the one everyone experienced in 2021, do you insist that this thread should be about that?

again, and I’ll say it slowly for you - It’s. Not. Relevant.

you're really not making sense.

How can I be ranting against vaccines when I suggested it could well be of benefit to the op

“Good job the government didn't do that when rolling out the vaccine to the whiole population regardless of personal medical circumstance ,
the above was in response to you accusing me of using a one size fits all regardless of individual circumstances.

Asking for links was in response to somebody saying all peopl who don't want it use no evidence or proper reviewd papers. it was a slightly sarky response of where does that evidence come from then

How can an opinion not be relevant on a thread asking for peoples' opinions?

I’m sure anyone in the OP’s position will find your comment invaluable @BlackStrayCat

Yes, OP especially, as she asked for opinions.

My elderly parents are about to have their 6th or 7th boosters. They are the only people I know who've never had covid.

they probably have but had very little in the way of symptoms

There is a difference from a personal opinion and those trying to pass information (incorrectly) as facts

aah, but nobody else can give an opinion on this thread asking for opinions except @Cornettoninja because only their opinion is valid and veryone else is just making stuff up.

Not had a single one and also never had covid
I also didnt wear a mask or use sanitizer, was working in retail, had a kid in school and moved states (in aus)

I never had any, never wore a mask/ never isolated/ never tested etc.
I did have it ( pretty certain as i had a nasty cough and lost smell and taste).
Had to have an afternoon nap and was very tired for 2 days but otherwise fine.
I've never been a person who doesn't believe it exists, just aghast at the response to what we were told ( rightly) would be a mild illness for the vast majority of people.
Also baffled at how furious people get when you don't have 100% support for a substance to be administered into your own body,

Meanwhile my DH was working on a Covid ward without sufficient PPE or ventilators, fighting to keep patients, of all ages alive.

Unfortunately doctors aren’t allowed to refuse to treat patients like you.

how was it for you not joining in btw? Wasn't it very batshit crazy in Aus?

Poor Djokovic. Remember that malarkey?

It was certainly completely batshit in Spain. Must have been so difficult in Aus.

It is interesting different countries reactions. Also, as you say, the agressive reactions from people against people doing their own thing.

My friend was over 70 and had cancer so I certainly thought he should have it.

DD and me, under 11 and under 50, absolutely not. But, my opinion obvs! My friend got angry with me though. (He lives in the UK)

He violated the rules for Australia and lied. Only kicked up a fuss when he got caught out.

I’m just looking for a discussion mostly because I feel like I’m going mad by choosing to have it while it seems 95% of people are saying I’m going to give myself more health issues by having it

I have had all so far except the last one so I think that’s 8

Who are these ‘95%’ OP??? I strongly suspect you’ve gone down a conspiracy rabbit hole if 95% of the people you are interacting with are unvaccinated and are telling you it’s all a scam!

BlackStrayCat · 03/04/2025 14:11

Did he lie?
I thought he was completely upfront about his refusal to take the vaccine?
I certainly knew about it! 😁

He lied about not visiting other countries before Australia, and that he had attended public events in Serbia after he had tested positive for Covid.

BlackStrayCat · 03/04/2025 14:26

Ah! Never realised he had lied!

Who are the 95%? Is if fb conspiracy theorists or medical professionals?

General public I guess. Friends, comments on FB, work colleagues, stuff on here

I can’t even ask someone with the same condition because I’m the only adult my haematology consultant sees with this condition (it’s about 1 in 1.5 million that have it which is why I haven’t specifically said what it is!)

OP posts:
Starlightstarbright4 · 03/04/2025 14:38

I had 3 severe side effects each time .. I am still entitled to one as a carer .

I have had Covid once - was quite ill for a week . But didn’t motivate me to have another one .

I have my flu jab but it’s personal choice and consideration of health risks

PurpleThistle7 · 03/04/2025 14:41

I am eligible and take whatever I’m entitled to. I’ve had covid 3 times and the last was terrible and I ended up with long covid and am still having issues from it. I got jabbed over the winter and haven’t had it again since (that I know of anyway - obviously not testing regularly). But being that unwell with it once made me really anxious about getting it that badly again. I’ve never had a reaction from the jab since the first one where I felt a bit unwell for a couple of days.

it’s all a bit random from what I’ve seen - some people react badly to the jabs, some react badly to the disease, some sail through it all. Unfortunately no way to know which you will be ahead of time.

FrozenFeathers · 03/04/2025 14:45

vaccineornot · 03/04/2025 11:15

This is the issue - I fall into the category that is unlikely to develop antibodies because I have a blood disorder

Considering your specific health conditions, I would personally go with the recommendations of my primary health care provider, if I were in your shoes, OP.

I personally had three jabs, at the recommendation of my government at the time. I don't have any specific health conditions and I also had COVID in between jabs, which is why I had 3, rather than four. In hindsight experts feel that two would have been enough and that the third was unnecessary.

I don't regret any of them. While I did have COVID, I feel it would have been so much worse if I had not been vaccinated. I also get my flu shots every year and renew my tetanus shot periodically. I want to get my MMR vaccine renewed as measles are rampant lately. I just don't know if that is possible.

FrozenFeathers · 03/04/2025 14:49

Parker231 · 03/04/2025 14:14

He lied about not visiting other countries before Australia, and that he had attended public events in Serbia after he had tested positive for Covid.

After he tested positive? What a PoS! He could have given it to people who died or developed long-covid from it, while he fully recovered, no doubt. Selfish a-hole. If he didn't want the vaccine he could have at least quarantined instead of running and around infecting others.

I would trust my consultant (unless you know he/she has a vested interest in getting as many people vaccinated as possible). They would really want the best for you and not want you comprised.
