Vaccine or not?

vaccineornot · 01/04/2025 19:46

I’m not sure if it’s possible to have a rational conversation about it but I’ll post!
I’ve had vaccines, missed my last as I was unwell and couldn’t rebook in time

I am doubting myself massively about whether I should have more or not
My doctor and consultant say basically “duh, yes, why wouldn’t you”

Social media seems to be (before anyone tells me not to listen, it’s every single person I see) that it’s a scam, a con, the vaccines don’t do anything, the more I have the higher the risk and the push NOT to have it is so strong that I’m thinking am I wrong to have it?
I just can’t seem to work out if I’m more at risk from Covid (which people are saying is a load of shit anyway) or more at risk from the vaccine (which everyone is saying is dangerous to health)

NC as I don’t want people thinking I’m an idiot for questioning myself

well unless they were in their 80's or very obese they were very very much a statistical anomaly.
Quite astounding you know of 2 people who died of it when you look at the data.
Sorry to hear it

No different from posters listing numerous family, friends, neighbours etc who have side effects from the vaccine.
I don’t know anyone with any side effects from the vaccine.

I suppose it's personal experience as I know many mnay people who had bad side effects but then that is statistically likely

amazing you don't know anyonw with any side effects. Not even the slight flu symptoms most people had?
Not even any sore arms for a few days! lucky you and your circle

There are the common side effects. More serious ones are rare - heart issues 1:10,000 and with a greatest chance of getting heart issues from Covid itself.

yes, just surprising that you know of nobody who had any side effects at all when they are so common,
And again, risk differs with age so it is incorrect for you to state the risk from covid is higher than from the onjections as a blanket statement

The British Heart Foundation confirms that research shows that Covid-19 itself is much more likely to cause myocarditis than a vaccine in most people. People who are vaccinated against Covid-19 also have a much lower risk of getting other serious heart complications caused by the virus, including heart attack and stroke.

Are you disputing the medical experts?

I'm disputing that you feel you can say the vaccine is a better choice for everybody

I hope that everyone consults their GP or specialist to check whether they should have the Covid and never rely on social media and random internet sites.
Am pleased my parents had their booster on Friday. No health conditions but keeping them protected.

I haven’t decided I’m 100% not going to have it but I’ve cancelled for now, and I’m going to go away and read proper researched studies and email my consultant
im not 87 but I don’t have a functioning immune system and im high risk for sepsis

Do you really think that you, as a lay person presumably with no training in reading or assessing studies, finding some free abstracts on the internet, is equivalent to a consultant with years of training and experience, and access to the latest sources of knowledge through multiple paid subscriptions, telling you what the evidence says?

No probably not but then how can I trust asking my consultant who is just one person and has nobody else he treats with my health condition?

I have got myself in a giant muddle and don’t feel I can trust anything Sad or anyone
If I have it and have a bad reaction I’ll regret it but if I don’t have it and get Covid badly I’ll regret that too
I barely go out at the minute except to food shop and outdoor swimming so maybe I should just hold off until the next one

You've had 8 vaccines and no reaction, so why do you think this one is going to hurt you?

lots of people have found there is a cumulative effect of the vaccines with eg. depressing immune system a bit more each time etc.

This has been researched - the body’s immune system is not weakened after a person gets a Covid vaccine. The vaccine affects the immune system by preparing it to fight Covid.
Healthcare workers have administered millions of doses of vaccines to people of all ages, and data shows they are extremely effective in preventing severe COVID-19 disease. If someone had a weakened immune system following Covid vaccination, they would have a more severe disease — but this is not the case.
The vast majority of individuals needing hospital treatment are unvaccinated.

yes, there's lots of interesting articles about.

Leaving aside the arguments above, can I please point out that it was forced upon people. Firstly on care workers who were to be sacked if they didn’t take it and secondly in Scotland in order to attend large scale events meaning young people and students in order to attend night clubs

now we know what we do about side effects, i still pinch myself that this happened. That we forced people to take a medical treatment in order to keep their job.

BeethovenNinth · 08/04/2025 19:26

we now know there are risks from the AZ vaccine - it was pulled for under 40s but too late. We know there is a risk from mRNA and for younger people that is much higher than from Covid. And we forced it.

we did indeed and those that didn't want it were vilified and ridiculed (and still are on here).

I caught Covid in January 2021 - before I was called for the vaccination. I'm coeliac (an auto immune condition - not an allergy). Hardly ill at all. Long Covid hit afterwards and before the vaccination. So ill at one point, the Dr saw me and sent me straight to A and E. Thankfully I was sent home after a few hours, but it took me 4 years to get almost back to normal. I still can't do a 5000 step walk without needing to stay in bed a lot the following day. I caught Covid for a 2nd time, but again, not very ill with it. I was fine with the 1st few vaccinations but the last 2, my heart rate went ballistic for a few minutes and the Dr and I have agreed i won't have any further Covid vaccinations. Covid isn't a huge deal for some people - but for others it results in LC. Think about that before you make decisions on vaccinations.
