Vaccine or not?

vaccineornot · 01/04/2025 19:46

I’m not sure if it’s possible to have a rational conversation about it but I’ll post!
I’ve had vaccines, missed my last as I was unwell and couldn’t rebook in time

I am doubting myself massively about whether I should have more or not
My doctor and consultant say basically “duh, yes, why wouldn’t you”

Social media seems to be (before anyone tells me not to listen, it’s every single person I see) that it’s a scam, a con, the vaccines don’t do anything, the more I have the higher the risk and the push NOT to have it is so strong that I’m thinking am I wrong to have it?
I just can’t seem to work out if I’m more at risk from Covid (which people are saying is a load of shit anyway) or more at risk from the vaccine (which everyone is saying is dangerous to health)

NC as I don’t want people thinking I’m an idiot for questioning myself

I get it every year with my flu jab. Your decision though 🤷‍♀️.

DaisyChain505 · 01/04/2025 19:49

I’ve met countless people who’ve had the jab and say they regret it yet not one single person who hasn’t had it and says the regret it.

That being said, it’s a personal choice to make.

tygertygers · 01/04/2025 19:51

I can’t fathom why you would take advice from anonymous users on a forum over your doctor and consultant?!

HCAokay · 01/04/2025 19:52

Well, covid killed my vulnerable spouse last year, despite them being fully vaccinated and having iv antivirals.

My friends DH was in intensive care on a ventilator at the beginning before vaccines, he’s now a shell of a man with long term health conditions he never had before, and has again been hospitalised with Covid this winter, despite being vaccinated, because he is now in the vulnerable category.

If you are so vulnerable that you are eligible this spring, despite the shrinking eligibility criteria, then ime you’d be crazy not to.

I obviously know of many others who have suffered despite the vaccine, compared to the odd handful who regret having the vaccine, but the above are very personal to me.

I’m just looking for a discussion mostly because I feel like I’m going mad by choosing to have it while it seems 95% of people are saying I’m going to give myself more health issues by having it

I have had all so far except the last one so I think that’s 8

I didn’t realise you could still get vaccines. I had 2, was never called for a booster. Don’t regret them, I wonder what people regret about having them @DaisyChain505 ? Did they all have a terrible reaction to them? I believe it was a tweaked formula of an existing vaccine so possibly not but I don’t think I’ve met a single person who said they’d regretted having it.
Just interested, not being a pain!
Anyway op, have you weighed up the pros and cons?

vaccineornot · 01/04/2025 20:00

I have had Covid once, was pretty rough with it. I had antivirals and was off work for 3 weeks
that was sometime around Dec 2022 so I had a good few vaccines by then

I have it, and the flu one, every year. I also run and eat healthily. My sick time is much lower than my peers. Clearly the jabs aren’t doing anything awful to my health. And I don’t get the covid and flu that go around. Whether it’s general good health or the jabs <shrug>. I’m not an epidemiologist. But then neither is @daisychain505.

AliBaliBee1234 · 01/04/2025 20:09

I'm guessing you may be vulnerable which you need to take into account.

As a healthy individual myself, I will not be taking another any time soon.

I get it the same way that I get my flu jab every year. I don’t really give it any thought.

This.

(i didn’t have it)

RiversofOtter5 · 01/04/2025 20:20

Yes, I pay for boosters because there are elderly and vulnerable people in my close family and friends circle.

soupmaker · 01/04/2025 20:26

I'd take the vaccine if I was vulnerable. I'd also take it to protect others. But we don't have compulsory vaccination so you can do as you please.

DemonsandMosquitoes · 01/04/2025 20:29

I had four vaccines. Ended up with cardiac issues out the blue at 50. Episodes of fast AF needing an ablation, and two days after my last vaccine was back in A&E with tachycardia. I still have palpitations three years on. Investigations for POTS. Related? Who knows.
This whole debate has really deterred lots of people from taking any vaccines at all which is a shame. I see it every day.
No more COVID vaccines for me though. Nurse.

Upsetbetty · 01/04/2025 20:34

I had the first vaccine and 3weeks later despite being a healthy, size 8-10 age 35 (having had low blood pressure all my life!) I was diagnosed with extremely high blood pressure and a tachycardia…so no I have never had another covid vaccine. It ruined my health.

Upsetbetty · 01/04/2025 20:36

37 not 35

I ended up in A&E for various side effects multiple times. I was late 20's and the brand I had was later banned for under 40's :(

verysmellyjelly · 01/04/2025 21:03

Social media is not to be trusted on this. There is a huge antivaxxer contingent pushing the “vaccine bad” view. The NHS only offers them to people who are genuinely at risk.

No one can make you have it but you’d be taking a foolish risk not to. I’m definitely having mine and I appreciate that they’re giving it to me, I’d rather have it than die of Covid. Shielding was no fun either.

Blondebrownorred · 01/04/2025 21:05

I only had the first batch. I never had any boosters and won't again. I didn't even realise they still did them. I never hear anyone talking about them.

Actually people under 40 were offered an alternative. It wasn’t “banned”, that’s misinformation.

Probably because you’re not in a clinically vulnerable group.

vaccineornot · 01/04/2025 21:07

I was under 40 at first. Had the primary third vaccine then 5 boosters since with a mix of Pfizer and Moderna and AZ too

OP posts:
verysmellyjelly · 01/04/2025 21:08

I’m also under 40 and have had a whole mix of them including AZ.
