Vaccine or not?

I’m not sure if it’s possible to have a rational conversation about it but I’ll post!
I’ve had vaccines, missed my last as I was unwell and couldn’t rebook in time

I am doubting myself massively about whether I should have more or not
My doctor and consultant say basically “duh, yes, why wouldn’t you”

Social media seems to be (before anyone tells me not to listen, it’s every single person I see) that it’s a scam, a con, the vaccines don’t do anything, the more I have the higher the risk and the push NOT to have it is so strong that I’m thinking am I wrong to have it?
I just can’t seem to work out if I’m more at risk from Covid (which people are saying is a load of shit anyway) or more at risk from the vaccine (which everyone is saying is dangerous to health)

NC as I don’t want people thinking I’m an idiot for questioning myself

Yes, I pay for boosters because there are elderly and vulnerable people in my close family and friends circle.

can I ask what that has to do with you getting the injections?
It doesn't prevent transmission

Thecatatemyplants · 03/04/2025 08:27

@verysmellyjelly So based on your own logic, you would also have to agree that we have no long term evidence for any damage the vaccine may cause... Those who accepted the jab have no idea how it may affect them in the future. I know which side of the risk fence I'd prefer to be on this one!

verysmellyjelly · 03/04/2025 08:27

Mightymoog · 03/04/2025 08:25

I didn't have any of them and am very happy with my decision.
When they were first rolled out I knew a fair few people who had menstrual issues, 2 who immediately got shingles; and my mother had her first epilepic fit in about 20 years within 4 hours of getting it.
People will shout anecdotes but enough anecdotes provide a pattern

No, data is what counts. Anecdotes are meaningless. It’s also really unethical and unkind to bring your antivaxxer rhetoric into a clinically vulnerable person’s thread in an attempt to scare them out of getting a vaccine they need. No one is trying to force you to have it!

I was on the shielded list during Covid and I like, y’know, not dying, so I’m very happy with my decision, thanks. I also would like to have my elderly relatives around for as long as possible.

Your antivaxxer rhetoric is utterly familiar to me and utterly unimpressive. I’ve seen it all before.

Actually it does lower the rate of transmission. You’re spreading misinformation.

@verysmellyjelly Most certainly not an anti vaxxer. I have happily had all the vaccines I require based on evidence and risk.

Having carefully weighing up the data I decided the COVID jab was unnecessary and so far I absolutely do not regret this decision. Shouting 'antivaxxer!' at anyone who disagrees with you is unhelpful to the discussion. The OP has asked for a balanced view. You seem to want an echo chamber.

Spreading misinformation about the perfectly safe Covid jab is antivaxxer rhetoric, like it or not. If that’s what you’re doing (and it is), you need to accept the term.

Thecatatemyplants · 03/04/2025 08:36

@verysmellyjelly I've certainly not spread any mis information. I've simply stated I didn't think it was worth getting based on the data I've seen.

It's beginning to look like you regret having it based on your strange responses!

There is absolutely no data supporting the idea that getting the vaccine is not a good idea, @Thecatatemyplants, so you can’t possibly have made an evidence based choice. That’s simply impossible.

well we were very close to being forced.
Why do people say anti vaxxer btw?
Do you have access to medical records showing which other vaccines the have had?

actually, you're right; by about 4% for about a month....

can I ask how you know which other vaccines I've had. Seems a bit bizarre that you're privy to that information ( especially as you don't know who i am!)

I had two friends who died of Covid- both under retirement age and without any pre existing health conditions. Unfortunately they caught Covid just as the vaccine was being rolled out and didn’t have the opportunity to have it in time.

Cornettoninja · 03/04/2025 08:45

I know what you mean. I was very close to being run over the other day, walking on the pavement right by a busy road.

honestly, what makes anyone think it’s appropriate to come on a thread started by someone debating their current medical situation and start harping on about a decision they took over four years ago? How is anything you’re saying relevant?

sorry, I was asking why not having this one injection makes a person anti vax?
You seem to have typed random nonsense and capitals.
Maybe start a thread on measles vaccination if that's what interests you/

Are you a doctor, scientist or virologist?

Emma543 · 03/04/2025 08:46

It’s a very personal choice
I have an autoimmune condition and immunosuppressed and I haven’t had any further vaccines since the first two. I’ve had Covid multiple times and had no worse than a headache, didn’t feel for me personally it was necessary.

RiversofOtter5 · 03/04/2025 08:46

Mightymoog · 03/04/2025 08:26

can I ask what that has to do with you getting the injections?
It doesn't prevent transmission

it reduces risk of infection (so I'm less likely to get ill and pass it on)
it reduces severity of infection (so I'm less likely to be too ill to care for others)

CV-19 itself has far more frequent and severe effects on the body than any vaccine

Plus the longterm damage from Covid can be terrible even if you had a 'mild' case...it takes time to show up

There's an awful lot of money and effort feeding conspiracy theories against vaccines. This is to undermine people's trust in experts and institutions. And to make us more easily manipulated by unscrupulous authoritarian politicians.

I don't have the time or money to debate this.
