Got covid again - that’s a shock

Just what the header says. Felt poorly yesterday, woke up with raging sore throat, sweats and cough. Took a test and instantly positive.

Apparently, we are not recording numbers any more. Has anyone else had it recently?

What do you want people to say? We’re also catching colds and flu 🤷‍♀️

NewUserName2023 · 28/06/2023 15:40

We have it here as well.

ReviewingTheSituation · 28/06/2023 15:42

We haven't been recording numbers for AGES - maybe over a year? When you say caught it 'again', when was the last time you had it? Most people have had it several times already (especially if you factor in the times when people had it asymptomatically, or when they didn't test).

Nothing unless you have it too. Felt like a fraud contacting work this morning. Someone actually said “who gets that these days?”

I had it this time last year - missed Glastonbury over it. Didn’t have tickets this year. Been trying to think where I might have caught it. Was on a coach for hours on Saturday. No one seemed unwell but potentially that is 50 of us unwittingly spreading germs since.

Sorry to hear that.

Hope you’re better soon. Have to say from feeling wretched this morning, I’ve already had quite an improvement.

They were probably just surprised because most people don't test for covid anymore 🙂

If you'd said you weren't coming in because you're ill / got a temperature / etc no one would think anything of it.

Hope you feel better soon.

Babdoc · 28/06/2023 16:02

I hope you continue to improve, OP. It is much less serious after vaccination - we are not seeing the high rates of hospitalisation and mortality now, compared to 2020.
I have had it twice. The first time in March 2020, back at the start of the pandemic, and ended up in hospital on oxygen. Came out breathless at 100 yards and suffered long Covid.
Caught it again last summer, after three doses of vaccine - much milder, not hospitalised, recovered in ten days. Caused a relapse in my long Covid, but I have built my exercise tolerance back up again since.
I think we can now regard it as in the same category as flu - potentially dangerous to the elderly or patients with comorbidities, but manageable with annual immunisation, and just a nuisance to the young and fit.

JustAnotherRandom · 28/06/2023 20:02

Hope you feel better soon. Thanks for testing.

Wizzbangfizz · 28/06/2023 20:04

Why bother testing you are just “ill” and as before if too ill to go in because you are ill stay at home.

bellac11 · 28/06/2023 20:09

Yes, you're too ill to work with a high temp and sore throat etc, whether its covid or another virus is a bit irrelevant.

RedPandaFluff · 28/06/2023 20:22

I'm currently 32 weeks pregnant and I've had it THREE TIMES since I found out I was pregnant. The only reason I tested was because DH was having cancer treatment and the hospital sent a load of tests (I wouldn't have gone out to buy tests otherwise - I do see it as just another virus).

I did avoid going out, though. I work from home so that was easy to do for the most part; although I did have to go to the supermarket at one point and felt supremely guilty about it!

Of course people are still getting it, it's not smallpox for goodness sake, what a ridiculous thing to say.

Sorry you are poorly. Remember you don't need to be negative to go to work just feeling well enough to go in.

ThisWormHasTurned · 28/06/2023 20:43

Yeah I had it a couple of weeks ago. Went to a neighbour’s birthday party and 7 of us developed Covid within a few days. I had an upset stomach but thought it was just an IBS flare. Then I started with cold symptoms and I thought ‘Hmm better test’…I have to test because of work and mine was instantly positive. I had a temp of 38.9°C at times so not just a sniffle! Recovered faster than the last time though.

timegoingtooquickly · 28/06/2023 20:47

I'd be surprised as no one know tests now 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hope you get better soon

Emdubz · 28/06/2023 20:49

Yes I had it again a couple of months ago. I need to test because of the type of environment I work in. Knew it would be positive as I had the distinctive Covid cough.

Chonk · 28/06/2023 21:03

I have Covid at the moment. Hope you feel better soon.

LuckOfTheDrawer · 28/06/2023 21:30

I also have to test because of work, and have Covid at the moment. I think I'm on the mend though.

My work doesn't want people in with covid and asks people to test
I'm immunocompromised - luckily WFH most of the time. There's also a colleague who has a child with cancer currently on chemo
If you can't find/afford a test then work will get one, if you're sick and don't want to test then you WFH or go sick

JustAnotherRandom · 28/06/2023 21:59

Why do people get so bothered about others testing?

Homeheadaches · 29/06/2023 08:28

JustAnotherRandom · 28/06/2023 21:59

Why do people get so bothered about others testing?

Thank you. I find that odd too.

The reason I have tests in the house is that I come into regular contact with someone extremely immune suppressed.

Thanks to everyone sending good wishes and virtual hugs to those who have it, especially RedPandaFluff, what a time you and your husband. are having.

JustAnotherRandom · 29/06/2023 09:26

I find it so odd and am grateful to those that test. You shouldn't feel you have to justify why you test.

@SimoneBristol, I disagree with what you said about Covid vaccines being 'pretty much useless'. I'm happy to leave it there though, as that isn't what this thread is about.
