Just what the header says. Felt poorly yesterday, woke up with raging sore throat, sweats and cough. Took a test and instantly positive.

Apparently, we are not recording numbers any more. Has anyone else had it recently?

@sandrashard

are you ok?

Fine thanks, are you?

Sandrashand · 03/07/2023 09:55

OneSecond · 03/07/2023 09:32

@Sandrashand, facts are fine. Facts combined with nonsensical interpretation and offensive comments are not. You are completely derailing the thread and harassing people who are vulnerable and/or have vulnerable others in their lives.

Okay, I'll stick to the facts. Healthy children are not at any risk from Covid-19. Never were, still aren't.

Given the above, am I allowed to ask what has made the 20 x scared children in the group discussed so scared of Covid?

JustAnotherRandom · 03/07/2023 11:02

Where are you getting your 'facts' from?

JustAnotherRandom · 03/07/2023 11:04

@Sandrashand I understand you feeling that way. It's a messed up situation.

JustAnotherRandom · 03/07/2023 11:06

@citychick - sorry the message below was meant for you and not the other poster. I'm sorry you were put in that situation.

citychick · 03/07/2023 11:11

@sandrashand

Why does it matter to you so much why the children were screaming ?
Children scream for many reasons. Disregulation, fear, excitement, over stimulation...

citychick · 03/07/2023 11:12

@justanotherrandom

no worries. thanks.

Appleofmyeye2023 · 03/07/2023 11:16

I have a “theory “ (tongue in cheek) that it’s related to wedding seasons 🤣🤣🤣, although that probably also crosses over with all outdoor mass events 🤷🏼‍♀️

I got it last year in early June, along with around 30 other people attending a wedding. My son has just recovered from getting it form a wedding a few weeks ago. A friend has just told m she’s positive and..yep she went to a wedding and got it there ….and so on and so on

Nope, it’s never gone away. The issue is that there’s no guidance really now so people aren’t taking any precautions at all, and most people who do develop symptoms either don’t think of Covid, or won’t buy test kits as they cost now. Boosters are only being given to select groups that are especially vulnerable, but we don’t have all evidence yet on how effective vaccines are in general population for long periods post initial inoculations. Clearly getting it, means you get an inoculation boost and probably then are fairly immune to random infection for next year. Just like colds and flus - you have a run of infections and then seem to not get any infections for a time.

Covid won’t disappear ever. It’ll be knocking around. It still kills a lot of people. Just like flu. But most people will be fine, albeit feeling very poorly for a few weeks, just like flu

You were the one who said the kids were screaming an that it was a problem? Why do you think they were scared of catching Covid?

sevenbyseven · 03/07/2023 11:55

@C1239

Yes, I feel awful. particularly as I work mostly with children and infants.
I work freelance for a few companies. 2 were great about it. stay away, and we'll find cover. One was, "Oh well, it is what it is." I felt really poorly on Friday and was asked to wear a mask, which is fine, but I had 20 kids screaming at me because they were terrified of catching Covid. which they may well have done. All because that manager wouldn't find cover.

If I catch it again, I'm just going to say I have diarrhea and vomiting. That way no one will want me anywhere near them.

I'm really cross with that manager, and I see her is a different light and am now very much on my guard.

If you feel poorly, you shouldn't be expected to come into work, whether it's flu, covid, or anything else. Next time just describe your symptoms rather than saying you've got covid, and your employer will probably be more sympathetic!

Maddy70 · 03/07/2023 12:34

It's no longer the threat it was. It's the same as flu etc unpleasant but unless vulnerable unlikely to harm

Mojitosaremyfavourite · 03/07/2023 21:40

I’m due to have an operation next week. I’ve been feeling ropey past couple of days so tested just now. Yep. Positive.
Can’t believe it .

How annoying for you. I tested as I work with pensioners so those above 60 and many vulnerable and we had 3 who were sick with it. I also volunteer at a hospice that has immune-compromised people and I really do not want to be the one who makes life harder for them.

I feel better than I did last year when I got it (though I still haven't got rid of the cough from 22 so this will be fun) I came to this thread to find out how people were experiencing symptoms now and how long to expect them to last. WOW, it derailed..

Hope you are not feeling too bad. Ive got a low-level temperature and keep sneezing and coughing and have a bad headache but it can be kept down with painkillers. Worried about dh who said he was feeling a bit like he had a cold today as that was how mine started. He has diabetes and since he was diagnosed he seems to not be able to shift any bugs well. He is bound to get it though...

GeriatricMumma · 04/07/2023 13:06

I keep getting NHS letters saying if I catch it, I should contact them for some medication.

  1. I don't test
  2. don't fancy being a Guinea pig again

The medication worked brilliantly for me, I felt so unwell and the paxlovid reduces risk of hospitalisation by 88%

GeriatricMumma · 04/07/2023 13:15

@bonfirebash
I've had covid three times (before I stopped testing) and thankfully it was never more than a bad cold for me.

The vaccination caused me no end of problems so I've lost faith in any treatments for it.

Sorry, that's such rotten timing.

To the PP who mentioned the thread getting derailed, fair point. So many threads are getting derailed now. Maybe it's deliberate, maybe not. Sorry OP. Sometimes it's hard not to bite.

Qilin · 05/07/2023 11:48

Sorry, yes forgot that. Assume you also test regularly for the flu, and for all other commonly transmissible diseases then too?

Why would I test for those other things? I can't self access antivirals for those. I can for covid. If I could then yes I'd test if able.

Also, the time I knowingly had flu it didn't put me in hospital or leave me with a life long health condition, I like the first time I got covid.

I've been tested for forms of flu such as swine flu in the past when admitted into hospital. It wasn't that but was a different illness with similar initial symptoms. So assume if it came to it the medical staff would test me.

However with covid a quick east test is available to me, for free, and I can get helpful medication quickly though it - why wouldn't I test???

Mojitosaremyfavourite · 05/07/2023 12:06

Hope those who have it are feeling better than they were.

I feel dreadful today. The symptoms just keep coming. I’m in bed . Can’t get up. Kids off due to strikes . House is a tip and the hospital said that I can’t have the urgent surgery I need next week due to the severe risk of respiratory distress after having covid when intubated during a GA.
Husband is abroad with work too.
My mental health is on the floor.

Hugs to you all xx

Gretsch · 05/07/2023 14:13

I've had it nine times. Interestingly, I haven't had it at all this year (I test weekly before I inject immunosuppressant drugs for an autoimmune disease - yes @Sandrashand some of us so still test because early access to antivirals could save our lives, and no, I'm not a hypochondriac). Last year I had it (iirc!) five times.

Seven jabs now so along with all those infections hopefully my body's getting the message!

Hope you're feeling better OP.

Gretsch · 05/07/2023 14:17

Sorry, yes forgot that. Assume you also test regularly for the flu, and for all other commonly transmissible diseases then too?

There's no widely available test for flu. As you well know.

If I test positive for covid (even if I don't yet have symptoms) I know not to inject my drugs that day. And also to call re antivirals immediately if needed.

Saying why do you bother testing for covid when you don't test for anything else is silly @Sandrashand. Why wouldn't I test for something potentially dangerous to me if tests are free and available, regardless of the fact that tests for flu etc aren't?

TheLifeofMe · 07/07/2023 13:33

Makes me laugh how people keep saying that you catch colds and flu too. It’s the summer. I know so many people who have an awful cold but won’t test for covid as covid is over. Talk about burying your head in the sand.

News channels don’t talk about it as they know what is happening to the health service. Health care staff getting long covid. You don’t catch long covid from a common cold or flu! Absence rate within the NHS at an all time high but let’s pretend covid is gone. Let’s stop masks in health settings so people still keep getting covid on hospitals. Deaths still being reported.

and before anyone piped up. I’m not for the vaccine at all. I had awful side effects and regret it. I just think the government want people to not worry about covid as they don’t want people asking for payments when they have long covid. They want the economy to recover and can’t afford more people on benefits. But the fact is long covid is very much real and in 5 years time we will see the devastation it will cause.
