Got covid again - that’s a shock

Just what the header says. Felt poorly yesterday, woke up with raging sore throat, sweats and cough. Took a test and instantly positive.

Apparently, we are not recording numbers any more. Has anyone else had it recently?

Nothing unless you have it too. Felt like a fraud contacting work this morning. Someone actually said “who gets that these days?”

That’s what I’d say if someone called in sick with Covid. Baffled why you’d test

sunglassesonthetable · 29/06/2023 14:00

Nope, most people now realise they are useless.

Yawn. Unless you've asked 'most' people.

Baffled why you’d test

Baffled you didn't read where OP says she comes into contact with someone who is immuno suppressed.
All these shocked/baffled types. I've got leftover tests . I would do it for the hell of it.

LuckOfTheDrawer · 29/06/2023 14:15

People test because they come into contact with immunosuppressed friends or relatives, or because they have to because they work in healthcare / similar, or because they want to.

It can't be that difficult to comprehend.

Babdoc · 29/06/2023 14:17

Claiming that the vaccines were useless and that people only benefited from their own previous infections is quite nonsensical. Many people will have contracted Covid for the first time only after being vaccinated, which is the main reason for the lower severity and consequent reduced death and hospitalisation rates.
If you decided not to vaccinate anyone, then everyone’s first infection would have occurred with them unprotected, and the death rate would have continued at the original high rate.
Perhaps you would have been happy to see people dying in hospital corridors, as per North Italy, but fortunately my medical colleagues and the UK government felt otherwise. The rapid vaccine rollout was a major (possibly the only!) success for the Johnson government.

Dowd is a financier, not a scientist and doesn't know what he's talking about. Like every other link you've spammed Mumsnet with today.

I still can't understand why people snidely comment and ask why people are testing ffs.

Some people are on immune suppressing medication or chemo or have other health issues etc.

I work one to one with people so there is no way I would not test if I had symptoms.

Equally if I had bad cold bug symptoms I would also call my clients to tell them because again alot of people can get really poorly.

For a while at the end of the summer I did request that any clients with ANY type of illnesses or symptoms please move their time slots because if I get I'll I then spread it as well as losing a lot of income and I lost enough in three lock downs.

It's not as simple as just not bothering to test anymore

Wrongsideofpennines · 29/06/2023 14:56

A neighbour of ours had it this week. She felt unwell as was seeing family at the weekend so tested just to make sure. Seems a sensible precaution to me.

Triptastico · 29/06/2023 15:31

I had it 3 weeks ago. Same symptoms as yours. Got a negative test after 6 days. 2 weeks on I feel okay but definitely not 100%. I still have post viral fatigue, I'm lying down as I type. I'm also still coughing a lot.

I went to my first yoga class today since contracting it and I found it a lot harder than usual.

Triptastico · 29/06/2023 15:36

I also stayed in the whole time I was positive as I didn't want to pass it onto someone elderly or immunosuppressed whilst doing my grocery shopping.

I was actually poorly for 5 days and didn't feel like going out anyway.

Hope you recover swiftly Op.

JustAnotherRandom · 29/06/2023 19:47

@Triptastico this is meant gently and may not apply in your case, but just in case. If you're finding your exercise hard, I'd advise skipping it out for a bit. I 'pushed through' after covid and can't even manage a normal walking pace now.

simbasays · 29/06/2023 19:51

Just to explain to some people who find understanding this difficult.

There are different reasons for lots of things we as humans do lots of things differently and have lots of opinions.

I personally do test and ask family to also do so. I have covid twice and both times had long covid - still suffering. Catching it again will cause a symptom flare so I'd like to avoid it if a can

Hope that helps you understand why people might do something different to you

Midgetm · 30/06/2023 17:31

I’ve got it again. Anecdotally seems a lot of it about at the moment, at work and at home. Tested as I work in healthcare and had spare tests. Had it so many times now it feels almost instantly recognisable. This time it’s a full run on all the symptoms. It’s the gift that keeps on giving. Hope you feel better OP.

QueefofSheena · 01/07/2023 02:23

I’ve got it at the moment too. I had loads of spare tests as I was CEV due to cancer treatment but I’m no longer considered vulnerable. I tested as DM is in her 90’s with congestive heart failure and FIL is in a care home. I’m trying to prop myself up to sleep on the sofa as the post nasal drip is keeping me awake. Last time I had it was Oct 21.

Hope everyone here who has it feels better soon.

millerpie · 01/07/2023 03:03

I stated with symptoms on the 18th and dh two days later. We tested positive straight away, I’ve not had it before and tested because I’d never felt so ill and we had tests in the house already. I’m still really poorly with it especially the coughing but it’s the fatigue that’s really getting to me I feel so drained.

Webbedlife · 01/07/2023 15:42

DH tested positive just before the previous weekend and I got ill by the Monday. The previous time I had covid was in 2020 which developed into long covid. Much stronger GI symptoms for me this time, I'm still getting diarrhoea.

Qilin · 01/07/2023 15:58

I've had it at least twice this year. I did record my results as it's how it can trigger antivirals and other treatment .
I may well have just had it again too - not got any tests left and haven't re-ordered any recently.

Have had various viruses and chest infections on and off since December. My immune system is rubbish this year, but sure I've recovered from the initial viruses I had end of November.

Blueuggboots · 01/07/2023 16:03

We had it about three weeks ago and so did about 5 other people I had been with prior to symptoms.

citychick · 01/07/2023 22:39

Yes, I have it.
felt grim at the beginning of the week. did a test on Thursday, which was positive. have missed a few social gatherings I was really looking forward to. Got the sweats and chills, cough, and a raging headache. Spent today in bed. Probably tomorrow, too. Back to work on Monday. No sympathy from the boss.
Get well soon, everyone.

C1239 · 02/07/2023 11:06

For those of you will it at the moment or recently what were your symptoms? Did you test positive straight away? I’ve been feeling completely wiped out the last couple of days, headaches, body aches, been resting but can’t seem to shift it, covid test negative though.

ThisWormHasTurned · 02/07/2023 18:50

I had upset stomach for two days followed by heavy cold symptoms. Tested when I felt I had the cold and it came up immediately.

QueefofSheena · 02/07/2023 19:05

I started with a bad chest/streaming cold early in the week. I’ve had a range of symptoms since including a tickly cough. Did 3 tests and didn’t test positive until the 3rd one on Friday.

monicagellerbing · 02/07/2023 19:07

I thought we weren't supposed to test anymore? Nobody I know is testing

Thecatisboss · 02/07/2023 19:35

@C1239 me and DH tested positive again (7th time I think!) on Friday night - we've both got heavy cold symptoms. DD had a high temperature on Tuesday but tested negative probably false negative!

Superdupes · 02/07/2023 19:43

I haven't had it recently but I found Strepsils to be an absolute life saver when I had it and had an horrendous sore throat OP.

JustAnotherRandom · 02/07/2023 20:42

Why do some people do ovulation tests? No one I know is. They're not mandated, why would people do it?

Why do some people test for STDs? Is there a law against passing them on? Why would people want to know? Aren't STDs always going to be around?

The world puzzles me, I tell ya. So many mysteries.
