If you didn't get the jab, would you consider having it now?

You'd better be quick if you're healthy and under 50...

"The Telegraph understands the Government is also preparing to wind down the open offer of the first two doses over the coming months. The move will mean unvaccinated healthy under-50s will soon not be able to get a Covid jab unless one is recommended by a medical professional."

I suppose the organisations were flexing their freedom of choice.*

i'm not sure that personifying corporations is in anyone's interest in this discussion. i'm perplexed by this line of thought.

sunglassesonthetable · 07/03/2023 21:13

Private organisations can make their own choices in how they run things. That is the freedom of choice you were talking about.

That's not personifying that's just the way it is.

I can understand why your friend is pissed off with his company. Especially when travel was limited and most people were meeting on zoom anyway.

peppathe3rd · 07/03/2023 21:16

it's the people running the corporations that decide on policy - that's what i meant by personifying.

sunglassesonthetable · 07/03/2023 21:17

Yep, their choices.

peppathe3rd · 07/03/2023 21:21

@sunglassesonthetable

Your friend and statementstate picked the wrong people to work for.

this sounds like you think these 2 examples are outliers. do you not think that vaccine coercion was a problem during the pandemic?

sunglassesonthetable · 07/03/2023 21:33

It wasn't in my circle as I've said. Or actually come to that, anyone I know.

In these few pages of thread we've got 2 posters who didn't require it and two posters who did. I'd be interested to know how many employers actually required vaccination status. Do you know?

But I've already said that I think coercion is bandied about a lot and I think it is often misused in this context.

If you got yourself vaxxed for the purpose of holidaying or nightclubbing during the pandemic I think you made a choice and prioritised. I don't call that coercion.

peppathe3rd · 07/03/2023 21:35

what do you call coercion?

statementstate · 07/03/2023 21:36

@peppathe3rd sunglasses thinks we are the same person. You me and anyone else who has a different view are the same person apparently.

Not enough people speak out, because they are dismissed and instead of receiving sympathy, people label them as being anti vaxxers despite the fact they're vaccinated. There are loads of forums for vaccine injured folks though, and they're safer there where they can relate to one another without people like this mob telling them they're either exaggerating their symptoms or questioning whether they're certain of their origins of their symptoms. Meanwhile, if you have long Covid, then everyone wants to shower you with sympathy.

peppathe3rd · 07/03/2023 21:42

@statementstate
i can understand both sides of most of the arguments on here - not that i agree with both sides but both are comprehensible. however, not seeing that coercion took place is just shocking to me. minky explained that they feel coercion hinges on a surreptitious or injurious motive. i disagree with that but respect the perspective. i don't know about the other forums you referenced but will look into it. thanks!

sunglassesonthetable · 07/03/2023 21:43

You what?

You really don't know what I think.
Oh hang on maybe you do.
🤷‍♀️

Just remind me where I told you you were exaggerating symptoms etc?

peppathe3rd · 07/03/2023 21:45

@sunglassesonthetable
what do you consider coercion to be? you don't like the way the term is "bandied about," and you've made clear that travelling and clubs aren't worthy of that label. instead of what you don't think it is, could you please say what that concept means to you?

sunglassesonthetable · 07/03/2023 21:45

What do I call coercion - @peppathe3rd probably not the same as you.

But we expected that didn't we?

sunglassesonthetable · 07/03/2023 21:52

I wouldn't choose the word 'worthy' either. I would say relevant.

peppathe3rd · 07/03/2023 21:52

@sunglassesonthetable
but you can't define it?

sunglassesonthetable · 07/03/2023 21:53

I'm not getting into a semantics pissing contest over the definition of the word coercion.

peppathe3rd · 07/03/2023 21:55

@sunglassesonthetable
how can you argue and argue about a concept you can't even define? you are good at picking apart what you disagree with - i.e. relevant vs worthy - but what would constitute coercion to you?

sunglassesonthetable · 07/03/2023 21:56

Not 'can't' - don't 'choose' to.

peppathe3rd · 07/03/2023 21:57

@sunglassesonthetable

there is no contest because you have yet to describe what you think it is.

peppathe3rd · 07/03/2023 22:00

@sunglassesonthetable

But I've already said that I think coercion is bandied about a lot and I think it is often misused in this context.

you think it is misused but refuse to explain what a correct usage would be.

sunglassesonthetable · 07/03/2023 22:01

I wasn't coerced re the vax at any point during lockdown.

Although anecdotal, I wasn't aware of anyone I knew being coerced.

I don't think some of the examples on here given as coercion actually are coercion. I think it's become a bit of an easy buzz word that actually means an enforced boundary.

sunglassesonthetable · 07/03/2023 22:04

there is no contest because you have yet to describe what you think it is.

There is no context because you haven't either and I'm not interested in the semantics. We've both got google look it up.

peppathe3rd · 07/03/2023 22:05

oh my goodness was an explanation of your opinion in there? you think coercion is being misused and the appropriate term would be enforcing boundaries?

peppathe3rd · 07/03/2023 22:06

@sunglassesonthetable
i gave given a specific example of what i consider coercive tactics to be in the context of covid vaccination. all you can say is what you don't think it is.

sunglassesonthetable · 07/03/2023 22:07

you sound just like one of my irritated teachers when I was in the 5th form. Did you mean to sound like you are marking my homework?

sunglassesonthetable · 07/03/2023 22:09

As it happens you don't actually control the narrative here 🤷‍♀️
