If you could go back in time, would you still get the Covid jab?

I don’t really care if you’re vaccinated or not, but I’m interested if people would go back and change their decision?

OP posts:
Mydogatemypurse · 05/02/2023 21:33

I had 2. Terrible periods after both so never went again. I was pro vaccination amd wanted it. Im very weak and not myself in the last year or so, prob peri but you never know.

Mydogatemypurse · 05/02/2023 21:35

My kids havnt been vaccinated tho. Both had already had covid and very mild fortunately.

Mydogatemypurse · 05/02/2023 21:36

What side effects are people experiencing?

BeethovenNinth · 05/02/2023 21:36

alison why did you having a covid vaccine get us out of lockdown sooner than me who chose not to have it?

sunglassesonthetable · 05/02/2023 22:01

I think Mumsnet are probably being bombarded with stuff from Public relations departments at pfizer and whatever government departments (or as it seems now bizarrely THE ARMY as recent news reports have it!) trying to mange the situation online and it's a real headache?

Sympathise with people who have rational thought through reasons for not having the vaccine ending up in the same group as people who post stuff like this.

HelpfulMonkey · 05/02/2023 22:02

@henlee no idea who who are etc but you obviously have no experience in PR / reputation management etc. I do.
Quite funny watching things.

Cute - are you obsessed with me or something?
Why are you taking the time to be rude to someone you don't know on the internet?

sunglassesonthetable · 05/02/2023 22:20

Obsessed! 😁😁🤣

This is ridiculous. The government aren't suddenly sending people onto MN to defend a vaccine that is being offered to a minority of the population.

If they are, I would suggest there are potentially some other aspects of their reputation that need "PR/reputation management"

No unfortunately as I am one of the unlucky people who had a terrible reaction to it and am now not allowed to have any more vaccinations. However, I realise I am in a small minority and they saved many lives.

Your experience is still important and real for many.

allergies never experienced before

ThomasWaghornsConeHat · 05/02/2023 22:33

It's very specific to me, but no. Because I was hospitalised two weeks later and they could not rule a clot on the brain. But that's personal to me. On the whole, it stopped covid killing on mass so I'm not anti it at all. It just POSSIBLY reacted badly for ME. Plus I had already had covid pre vaccine extremely mildly. So covid was never going to kill me. Unless someone could promise me I didn't have a clot I'd never have got AZ. But my story is extremely rare. But even if I was that 1 in a million, it was no comfort if you are that 1. The vaccine was and still is a wonderful miracle of science. I'm a very small footnote in a much bigger picture. I had my booster and then a Pfizer but I won't get another. I have had covid at least twice now.

@peppathe3rd

I imagine you’ve lifted that graph from a delightful think tank like unherd.

Its from 2021 and has been debunked.

The group conducting the study said themselves it was an anomaly and politically related. They still concluded - as many other studies have - that vaccine hesitancy decreased with education level.

“A sensitivity analysis found some people answered in the extreme ends of some demographic categories to throw off some of the numbers. King said it appeared to be a “concerted effort” that “did make the hesitancy prevalence in the Ph.D. group look higher than it really is.”

For example, they observed higher hesitancy rates than expected in the oldest age group — 75 and over — as well as the top end in terms of education level.

“We found that people basically used it to write in political … statements,” King said. “So they weren’t genuine responses. They didn’t really complete the survey in good faith.””

So you’ve basically ‘cherry picked’ with no context.

Unherd is a very right wing publication - and yes, very right wing groups are against the vaccine. For survival of the fittest type reasons.

HelpfulMonkey · 06/02/2023 04:02

@MinkyGreen you are a real expert on this stuff and totally on overtime tonight! How do you find the time to do so much research on the minute of this topic? Is it your job or something?

MinkyGreen · 06/02/2023 06:59

@HelpfulMonkey

A snide comment doesn’t really support your ‘cause’ when your sources get continually debunked and exposed for the propaganda that they are. I’d rather hear you defend your sources. On the other thread you were promoting far right politician Christine Anderson.

Did you realise she was an extremist? Or do you want to defend far right politics? Which is it? I suspect/hope you didn’t realise : so then your next best option is to be snide/do a flounce - or try to make out that it’s my ‘job’ - when you’ve been posting here pretty liberally yourself.

Xenia · 06/02/2023 07:55

Like most things in life it might seem easy to have two categories - good and bad and you are with me or against me but in fact people who had the vaccine and those who did not comprise all kinds of different individuals. One of my many reasons not to ahve it is I am very bsuy and tend not to queue; also I work alone at home so my risk of catching covid was very very slim in 2020/21 and am female and not a risk category had I got it. My main reason was I knew (as did everyone) it would be like hte flu jab so not something you have once and are protected for life so for me was not worth the trouble. If that damages other people I can live with that as the huge amounts of tax I pay probably dwarfs on a scale of who did right any tiny damage I might have done by being more likely to spread something I did not catch in 2020/21. So I certainly feel I am on as much moral high ground as anyone who had the vaccine in 2020/21.

We ave now in the UK for most people in a post vaccine period. So at present I believe I am as immune or not immune as those in the family who had their 3rd and last ever booster in Jan 2021. I believe that is correct but I always look for the facts (from a family of doctors etc) so happy always to be corrected.

MinkyGreen · 06/02/2023 08:20

@Xenia

Which is more of a personal choice. So I wouldn’t really challenge that. You’re not trying to justify that choice with discredited science or promote the views of a far right politician.

I’d say the issue is : misinformation which is harmful - and THAT needs to be challenged.

In much the same way as if : a person had cancer and was persuaded to use a herbal remedy and ignore the advice of their doctor based on scant/discredited evidence promoted in a social media group.

I do get the argument of : how far do you go to protect public safety v’s protect the economy. But I think the vaccines have allowed normality to return and given us a level of hybrid immunity - which in turn will help the economy to eventually recover.

MinkyGreen · 06/02/2023 09:00

@peppathe3rd

The point is that the graph has been taken out of context by groups such as Unherd. You/Unherd can’t just present a graph - and not give the full context of the original paper, and their explanation for the anomaly. Otherwise that would be misleading.

MenopauseSucks · 06/02/2023 09:03

Had all 4 jabs - all AZ - no side effects.
Also had the flu jab but I get offered that every autumn anyway.
I finally had Covid in October 2022. Sneezed a bit for 3 days then ok.
Irritatingly I was still testing positive until day 12 but was symptom free.
I didn't feel I could visit elderly relatives in hospital as my conscience wouldn't let me.

The only time I've had a bad reaction to any vaccination was when I had the flu jab & the pneumonia jab at the same time.
I was really poorly for about a week. Cold remedies weren't touching it.
Ran out of sheets I was sweating so much so had to sleep on towels...

HelpfulMonkey · 06/02/2023 09:06

@MinkyGreen Not snide at all I was genuinely curious?
Would be nice if you answered the question, it was made in good faith...
