Tested positive today - anyone else?

Tested positive this morning (Sunday) after negative test last night. I think I had it before a few months ago so am a bit annoyed to have it again.

Symptoms are feeling chesty, bit of a cough, painful mouth ulcers on back of tongue.

Anyone else along for the ride?

An update.

DS1 tested positive on the 20th June. He had a couple of days of feeling really rough then more or less bounced back. Has said he still feels tired.

DD Tested positive 22nd June. Quite ill coughing and sore throat. Thought she was improving over the weekend but felt exhausted, coughing andcsore so on 28th rang the GP who wanted to see her as she is on a trial to see if she has asthma too. The GP thought her chest was clear but her heart rate stayed high the whole visit, settling at 12 Bpm. And her breathing was shallow. So they wanted to refer her to the emergency same day hub at the hospital. He called them to let them know and because of her heart rate they refused to see and said she needed A & E. 6 hours later she was home; xrays and ecg clear but high infection markers in her bloods so put on Doxycycline. She is finally sleeping and although coughing still seems better.

DS2 Tested positive on the 22nd, was more ill than last time he had covid in September. He is still coughing a lot and is on antibiotics for a chest infection.

DH Tested positive on the 23rd, and was ill for a few days but back at work yesterday. Left with a residual cough and tiredness.

I tested positive on 23rd, and I'm still off. I have totally lost my voice and been on antibiotics since 27th June. My sinuses are finally clearing today so at least my head feels normal. I've had to have afternoon naps most days and sit-down to do the washing up. Hoping to be back at work on Monday but my voice needs to come back first.

For those saying it's just a cold, for 1 out of 5 of us it was probably the same as a really bad one; for the rest of us its been much much worse.

I'm day 8 and two days since the antibody treatment and have definitely turned a corner. Still utterly exhausted and congested but a million times better than the beginning of the week.

I've reached that annoying stage of recovery when I'm recovered enough to notice that the house is an absolute shit pit but not well enough to do anything about it.

I just put a wash on and needed to have a lie down.

Day 9 here and negative and my head aches and my sinuses are blocked.

Enough I want to feel better!

elephantmarchingin · 02/07/2022 07:36

I'm still very much positive on day 10! This is driving me nuts. It was fainter yesterday and darker today again! Could I be reinfected?

pandapandacrow · 02/07/2022 07:54

Hello, second infection this year. Not feeling as bad as first (which I've only really just recovered from ffs after 5 months) but do feel tired.

Are there any rules now? Staff I know at work have been working from home for 5 days (teacher) but wasn't sure if that's what we are doing or a general rule?

Addled brain couldn't make sense of the gov page!

Firesidefox · 01/07/2022 15:15

This is a really interesting article about 'medium covid' which makes sense to me: www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2022/03/17/1083040162/long-covid-symptoms?t=1656681792470

Oh yes definitely my experience from the first omicron end of Jan. medium covid.

It's made me more peri menopausal. I've had random episodes of breathlessness that wasn't asthma right up till about a month ago. But only started 6 weeks after infection.

Brain fog lasted ages and I've not been sure if I've still got it or it's peri meno. I think the latter.

Perfectlystill · 02/07/2022 08:19

You won't be reinfected @elephantmarchingin - you will just have scraped a bigger sample today than yesterday.

I tested negative on day 12. Day 13 today and I'm exhausted which is disappointing as I had felt I was on the mend.

Ugh, awful night's sleep and upset stomach this morning. Cough becoming more of a bark.

pandapandacrow · 02/07/2022 09:19

I find it so odd that my normally v reactive to viruses asthma is never too bad with covid.

I got a secondary infection last time but a week or so later.

HangingOver · 02/07/2022 09:38

DP is on day two and sweating through a sheet, mattress protector and towel every few hours. Will the mattress stink if I just let it dry out and turn it? Can't think what else to do really. Expect I'll be next, having side stepped it so far!

HangingOver · 02/07/2022 09:39

Oh and the play I'm in opens in 11 days!! So if I get it at the very least I'll miss all the dress rehearsals!

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 02/07/2022 10:39

Avoided it all this time and tested positive this morning after catching it from DP who tested positive on Thursday. We did isolate him apart from sharing a bathroom as i have 2 weeks of really important meetings about DS who has just been issued an EHCP so im really annoyed. Hoping the kids dont catch it as they have end of term treats/plays at school but theres no way we can both isolate from them as they are little ds 7 has special needs and the girls are 4 and 5yrs so we are wearing masks and sanitising everything. Windows are wide open.

I have a banging headache, sore throat and runny nose. Every part of me aches

jano69 · 02/07/2022 12:08

Gosh there's a lot of us here!

I am Day 12 now and pretty much over it, having finally tested negative yesterday.

Just celebrated my son's graduation so feel exhausted from travelling over 500 miles in 2 days, in addition to post viral tiredness.

I am off a big open air concert tomorrow and nice to know I'm highly unlikely to be reinfected.... hopefully I'll get through the summer without another infection now. 🤞

EdinaMonsoon · 02/07/2022 12:10

I have a question for all who are still testing positive after 6 days… Did you continue to isolate from household members after the NHS-recommended 5 days? Or did you go ahead & mix freely with your household once that period was over, despite continuing to be positive?

I tested positive on 27th June (symptoms since 25th). I recorded the test on the NHS app which informs me that I had to isolate until midnight today. However LFTs are still showing up as positive so I am unsure whether to continue to isolate from my family or not?

RedorangeyellowBLACK · 02/07/2022 12:23

Does anyone else have a sore ear alongside their sore throat? I tested positive on Wednesday (after 24+ hours of feeling rough but negative). Usual sweats, aches, headache etc which then turned into more of a head cold with blocked then runny nose, jelly like eyes, sneezing, barking cough and very sore throat.
My throat is worse on the right side and the ear on that side is so sore. I prefer not to swallow atm!

Cocolapew · 02/07/2022 12:27

I think mine was a false positive, I ended up in hospital last night with a wisdom tooth infection. My heart rate was high, my white blood cell count and inflammation markers were high but this was probably the tooth infection because I had tested Monday,Tuesday and Wednesday when I statred to feel ill and got 3 negative results yesterday.
Hope everyone starts to feel better 🙂

Had a bit of a disagreement with a friend who has tested positive for covid. She walked her dog, but said it was ok at night with no people around.

What do we all think?

You are allowed to go to work with Covid so walking the dog in open air isn’t a problem. I’m on day 4 and have felt rough so my poor dog hasn’t had a walk all this time, we shall be walking him today.

libbytrois · 02/07/2022 14:07

@EdinaMonsoon I kept separate until I had negative LFT on day 7

EdinaMonsoon · 02/07/2022 14:54

@libbytrois Yes, my gut feeling is to do the same. It seems like a waste of time isolating for the other days if I start mixing with them now whilst I’m still testing positive.

I’m mostly in my room (en-suite so not sharing bathroom either). DH has provided room service (!) & the only time I have left the room to go to the garden I have worn a mask.

TheCatsPjammas · 02/07/2022 15:48

I am finally negative, day 12, if you count 0 as first day I got a positive. No build up, just came on very quickly in a matter of hours. I isolated from the rest of the family and didn’t venture out. They def did not want it again! I was feeling fine from day 5. I have taken it easy though. Left with a cough. But no wonder it’s everywhere as I could just as easily have been spreading it about because I felt ‘fine’ !

TheCatsPjammas · 02/07/2022 15:50

Plus my first time with covid and have had all the jabs.

pinklavenders · 02/07/2022 17:25

Had a bit of a disagreement with a friend who has tested positive for covid. She walked her dog, but said it was ok at night with no people around.

If you're allowed to go to work and school with covid, then surely a walk at night with no people around cannot possible be objectionable?

Most people don't even test anymore.

HangingOver · 02/07/2022 19:13

As predicted, positive test this evening. Blimey it comes on quick doesn't it!!

So bummed. Dads 70th tomorrow and play opens in ten days so I'll miss most of the dress rehearsals. Times like this I wish I still drank!!!

Feart · 02/07/2022 19:15

I tested negative on day 9 and went back to work on day 10. I still felt rough on day 10 but am feeling progressively better each day since then. I’m still a bit congested and very tired.
