People with covid now - how much are you isolating?

Now the guidance has changed and there is no legal requirement to isolate, what are you doing?

We tested positive a week ago and had mild symptoms, fully isolated for 5 days and are going about our normal business now though we are still testing positive, though trying to avoid close contact and indoor spaces and wearing masks everywhere.

Covid is not going away , it's funny how people get on the moral high ground it's a cold

Maybe majority of people should take care of there own health so covid won't affect them and I know some people can't help it but you can't stay in for rest of your life
Yes, of course, my OH can cure himself of incurable cancer by eating a few more apples and cutting down chips can't he?

In fact, he was already very healthy, never smoke, barely drank, healthy diet, not overweight, etc. Lots of cancers AREN'T related to lifestyle you know’

I am overweight and a colleague tried to imply that I had brought blood cancer on myself by being overweight!!! Some people are so thick. We might be able to vaccinate people for covid but no cure or vaccination for stupidity.

I had to drive myself to the pharmacy today at our local supermarket to pick up some steroids. Mask on, sanitised hands etc as I'm still ill. The amount of people clearly unwell but there for a jolly was insane - heavy coughing everywhere on the produce but no masks, tissues, anything. Pottering around the homeware aisles on a day out.

They could at least use sensible hygiene measures if they're going to carry on "as normal", ffs... the worst culprits were the older people we're all trying to keep well 🙄

SexyLittleNosferatu · 06/04/2022 14:55

Who has specifically asked you to "keep them well"? That seems a bit bizarre and a strange turn of phrase! Have you been responsible for keeping these people well in the past? Does keeping them well relate to just this one specific virus that the media convinced too many people was instant death? For how long do you think you'll go on keeping these people "well"? Forever? Or until they die of something that absolutely is not this one specific virus. Is well the new 'safe'? So many questions.

Adult DS has been isolating for five days. He feels fine so able to WFH, the +ve line is getting fainter and may have gone by now (haven't spoken to him yet today) .

It's not being "older" that makes them vulnerable, it's health conditions which, of course, generally effect older people more, but plenty of older people don't have health conditions and aren't at higher risk, just as much as there are younger people at high risk because of their health conditions.

So, no, the lockdowns/restrictions weren't particularly imposed to help "older people" keep well, they were imposed to protect the vulnerable of all ages due to health conditions.

I suspect the older people you obviously despise were generally pretty healthy, the ones who are vulnerable, particularly the ECV vulnerable category were probably not out and about in crowded places in large numbers!

That's not true. Age is and always has been the biggest risk factor regardless of conditions.

I tested positive last Friday, still positive today and I will isolate for 10 days if I need to. I did go and pick my son up from school on Friday otherwise he would have had to stay there lol but apart from that I haven't been anywhere. My eldest was positive 10 days ago and wouldn't let me test him again on day 5 so I have just isolated him.

Creams0da · 06/04/2022 16:55

I tested positive on Saturday and felt fine. I went for a walk in the fields near me that evening, in anticipation of isolation, because there's never anyone around. Since then I've been quarantining in the spare room away from DP (who has just started a new remote job this week) and the world. Quite enjoying the peace!

Thanks to allergies I have a constant cough and blocked nose so often sound ill. No doubt you'd think I shouldn't be there!

TheKeatingFive · 06/04/2022 18:32

They can't have been that unwell if out and about. Really unwell people stay in bed.

TheKeatingFive · 06/04/2022 18:36

This is a very fair point. There are many illnesses and impacts on the health service that we could do something about and flat refuse to. The fact that some illnesses aren't lifestyle related doesn't negate that.

The nhs has struggled with the impact of type 2 diabetes for years.

The word 'clearly' is taking some abuse there.

Also, did you actually ask any of the older people you're whining about here whether they want you to wear a mask because you're under the impression it helps keep them well? Perhaps they'd prefer you not to engage in any of the things you're doing supposedly for their benefit and instead would prioritise not being bitched about on MN. Or is that the wrong kind of putting others first?

ColinRobinsonsFart · 06/04/2022 19:55

I am on day 8 and still positive. I still feel like shit. Still not going out. DH is on day 4 and he is also feeling like shit. And he is isolating too.
I doubt I will be going out until the weekend - and that's only if I am negative. DH will wait until he is negative.
We are old skool

millytint44 · 06/04/2022 23:01

I must have caught it on the last day of my holiday. I felt cold like symptoms last Friday. I flew home sans mask on a full 737. Tested positive the day after. Ended food shopping after holiday so went to tesco with mask. Went back to WFH. Still testing positive but need to go out again tomorrow for bits of fresh food.

Tulalalala · 06/04/2022 23:14

No one I know is even still testing. It seems very much like normal service has resumed. Stay at home if you're too unwell to be out, get on with it if you're well enough. No one would know whether it were Covid or not.

Bigoldmachine · 08/04/2022 20:59

I never said anything about cancer , all I said is covid not going away and people should lead healthy lifestyle which would help

The group of people who have the most difficulty leading a healthy lifestyle - those in poverty

The group of people least able to isolate if they have covid - those in poverty

There are so so many people working incredibly hard trying to keep their heads above water with the cost of living crisis. One pay packet away from financial disaster. They are the same people who are so exhausted from the absolute grind of being poor that they stick fish fingers and chips in the oven again, or a 99p frozen pizza. Who can blame them?! (Lots of people, it turns out Sad)

Poppins2016 · 09/04/2022 02:02

My DS and I (both positive) have isolated. DH is negative so he went to the supermarket earlier but wore a mask just in case anything is brewing... he's also taken our (negative) baby for a walk.

I plan to isolate until I get negative LFTs, but it's easy enough for me to do that as I'm on maternity leave and DH isn't unwell so can run errands. I don't see the point in spreading covid around if it can be helped, it's pretty nasty even in its 'mild' omicron form.

PyjamasOClock · 09/04/2022 02:09

I did the full 10 days as still symptomatic and positive on days 5 and 7. I've followed guidelines not to test at day 10/11 as you can be positive for some weeks. Am NHS hospital staff so we are still on the old rules. I am CEV and had antivirals from day 5. I've got a post-viral cough and post -viral fatigue on top of a reasonable level of daily fatigue anyways. Back to work Tuesday I hope which will have been 2 weeks off as the fatigue has been awful.

Poppins2016 · 09/04/2022 02:39

I agree with previous posters regarding the line often used in the media (and MN): "it's just like a cold"... I currently have covid, probably Omicron given the prevalence at the moment, and what I'm experiencing is a mild illness in that I've not needed medical attention, however it's been far worse than even the heaviest cold I've ever experienced. I'm on maternity leave at the moment, but I would usually work from home if I had a heavy cold and I know I definitely couldn't have worked from home with this... I could barely look after my baby!

SenecaFallsRedux · 09/04/2022 02:58

Where I live there has never been a legal requirement to isolate, but everyone I know who has tested positive has isolated for the government recommended time. Also I haven't heard of any employers who want people who are positive for Covid to come to work. My son was out for 10 days and couldn't come back to work until he tested negative. Also we still have plenty of tests available here. I'm in the US.

Crimesean · 09/04/2022 12:17

I tested positive today, I'm isolating obvs. It sucks though, we're supposed to be visiting DH's family abroad over Easter and I won't be able to go unless I magically test negative by day 6. Sad

I'm more sad about a whole week away from my 4-year-old than I am about having to isolate Sad

mnnewbie111 · 14/04/2022 15:54

I'm positive today, very faint line but I own a business and have no staff for big events this weekend. If I don't do them I don't get paid and therefore not do my staff (new business so no spare funds). I'll be working and wearing a mask.

gogohm · 14/04/2022 16:33

Dd has just tested positive (adult) but she's gone out running over the nature reserve, it's spitting rain so I doubt she'll meet many people. She's picking up some food on the way home (masked) but won't visit grandparents for Easter

RadioRouge · 14/04/2022 16:42

My work didn't want me in with covid. The last thing we need is to have another outbreak in the office.
Although our customers understand on one level, they also want the services they're paying for.
One of our clients has asked for (and got) a dedicated work from home mini team to look after them exclusively to reduce the impact covid has on their business.
We're thinking of offering it to other companies as well.
We isolated for about two weeks. We didn't want to pass it on to others, and neither of our employers wanted us back without a negative test. They've made that mistake before.
