People with covid now - how much are you isolating?

Now the guidance has changed and there is no legal requirement to isolate, what are you doing?

We tested positive a week ago and had mild symptoms, fully isolated for 5 days and are going about our normal business now though we are still testing positive, though trying to avoid close contact and indoor spaces and wearing masks everywhere.

@Daqqe

How are you all testing though?! My neighbours used the last of their LFs to test positive over the weekend. They have none left, nor do we. So all they can really do is isolate for a few days & when feeling better, get back on with life?!

How much have the mumsnet crowd been stock piling LFTs?! 😂 meanwhile, the rest of the UK have zero access to testing anymore 🙈

I haven’t stock piled anything I’m down to my last 2 tests which I won’t test until the end of the week as what’s the point testing till then I’m isolating anyway . I’ve managed to order some more online by saying I’ve got symptoms.
ChairOfInvisibleStudies · 04/04/2022 14:14

I'm day 7, still testing positive and feel pretty wiped still. Took my toddler for a walk earlier as he's going stir crazy but avoided people and don't plan to go inside anywhere until at least day 10.

We were "stockpiling" because our chemist always gave us a couple of boxes whenever either of us picked up our prescriptions - they were piled high and the counter staff said they got another box of them every day with their daily delivery and couldn't shift them quick enough - there must have been 10/20 boxes of them behind the counter.

Our DS at Uni said that a box for each of them was left in the flat's communal kitchen every week throughout last term - they weren't testing daily, so he's got 5 or 6 packs of them in his flat. He also says that the college office have a huge stack of them on the counter for anyone to help themselves.

I stayed at home for the 6 days I felt like I had symptoms. Was in supermarket yesterday on day 7 for about 5 minutes.

You do know what "can't afford" means for many people don't you? Rent, food, bills - I'm lucky and can work from home, although I hate it, but I absolutely would not put my families financial stability at risk if that was the alternative.

I haven't had it, my DD did last week and we kept her off school until she got two negatives, but we only have one box of tests left now so we aren't doing any routine testing any more.[/quote]
You do know what being ECV means don't you??

My OH has cancer and is in the highest risk category of covid.

So why does a random tradesman's income matter more than my OH's life??

Tippexy · 04/04/2022 14:18

A reminder to all that Day 1 is the day after your first positive test.

Test day is Day 0.

Whyarewehardofthinking · 04/04/2022 14:19

We still need 2 negatives before staff can return to school within the 10 days. More staff are ill this time around, rather than just testing positive and it is ripping through the kids again; some are testing and some aren't. We have a lot of coughs and colds in school right now though, with few throwing up from coughing.

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 04/04/2022 14:19

I'm currently off with covid . I will stay in for 5 days and then hopefully test negative.
I can't work from home and won't be paid so unless I'm really ill that is all I can afford to do .

TheKeatingFive · 04/04/2022 14:20

I think it's pretty selfish even if you can't afford to take time off.

So are you offering to pay people's bills then?

DelilahBucket · 04/04/2022 14:22

I have a CEV friend who isolated for a whopping four days and then went and sat in an unventilated theatre with hundreds of other people to see a show. She was still very much symptomatic. She said she was testing negative but I find that highly unlikely. It annoyed me because throughout this whole thing she has criticised everyone who won't wear a mask, won't test before seeing her or others and who doesn't isolate, yet here we are.

TheKeatingFive · 04/04/2022 14:22

It matters more to them, naturally

Branleuse · 04/04/2022 14:26

I am isolating. Im on day 6. I dont even feel particularly ill, but still testing positive. Ds had it and is over it, and he went out the first day he tested negative, but wore mask.
Im surprised people who can isolate are not isolating.. People really do only do what they are legally told to dont they

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 04/04/2022 14:34

Yep. You shouldn't judge people for having to go to work and pay their bills. I'm sure they'd prefer it if they could take the time off when sick but not everyone has that luxury.
TeeBee · 04/04/2022 14:43

I know loads of people who have it and all are isolating until testing negative...except for one idiot who has got on a plane whilst knowing they are positive.

TulipsGarden · 04/04/2022 14:56

Everyone I know seems to be isolating according to the old rules still. Some have been out for quiet walks if they've felt up to it, but most seem to have been wiped out and needed a week in bed/on the sofa.

RedSnail · 04/04/2022 15:12

I was symptomatic and tested positive on Wednesday. Today is day 5 and I’ve only been as far as the garden once, been too ill to go out anyway. Could work from home but been off sick, will WFH once better enough to. Won’t be going to the shops, office or seeing people until negative. Will test again when I feel well enough to go out and see what it says then.

emmathedilemma · 04/04/2022 15:50

It's still a requirement to isolate for up to 10 days here but I went out for a walk most days when it was quiet, either early morning or after evening rush hour. I also did a click & collect (because I had to eat and there weren't any delivery slots available!) which was outdoors and I didn't get within a metre of the delivery guy and we were both wearing masks. Also had one friend call round who sat outside while I sat on the doorstep.

emmathedilemma · 04/04/2022 15:52

Fake news, they're still available in Scotland until later this month!

BeenToldComputerSaysNo · 04/04/2022 15:53

Currently isolating. Meant to be on holiday.

AskingforaBaskin · 04/04/2022 15:57

@user1497207191 are you going to cover the bills?

Cost the Gov. A few billion but that's fine for you right?

Otherwise I am very sorry about your situation but no your husband is not on my list of priorities and is below my home and Daniela security.

TypicaIMe · 04/04/2022 16:41

Me and DH isolated for the full ten days. Actually I stayed home for 13 because I was so unwell. I still am, four weeks on, and have hardly left the house.

NothingIsWrong · 04/04/2022 17:09

@user1497207191

You cannot expect people to make themselves homeless, into a debt spiral or unable to afford to heat and eat. Those are the consequences of not working for VERY many people. Your husband matters to you very much, but you can't expect others to prioritise him to the extent of poverty for their own children.

Like I said, I'm lucky and can and will isolate. I don't expect others to do so if they can't.

BeyondMyWits · 04/04/2022 17:19

I'm on day 4, at home. Employer said to stay home (on SSP!, so bog all pay for the first few days) Until I test negative. Feel really crappy anyhow. Coughing so hard and so often my belly aches, temperature and fatigue.

No way would I be up to serving immunocompromised customers in a pharmacy, even if it were not to be morally reprehensible to do so.

Lifeispassingby · 04/04/2022 17:39

DH tested positive last Monday and I stayed home from then assuming I would catch it eventually. I tested positive on Wednesday, we’ve both been quite ill but him far more so than me. I am going back to work tomorrow having done the 5 days isolation but I am still testing positive today, although have no symptoms anymore except a bit tired. DH is on day 7 with a faint line but he is too ill to go anywhere. I’m divided about how to feel about it but DH cannot go to work and I can not afford to be off any longer as we have had 6 days each now

HardyBuckette · 04/04/2022 17:49

So why does a random tradesman's income matter more than my OH's life??

As 'random', low priority and easy to dismiss as you think their ability to keep providing for themselves and any family members is, that's the same priority as they assign to your OH.
