People with covid now - how much are you isolating?

Now the guidance has changed and there is no legal requirement to isolate, what are you doing?

We tested positive a week ago and had mild symptoms, fully isolated for 5 days and are going about our normal business now though we are still testing positive, though trying to avoid close contact and indoor spaces and wearing masks everywhere.

I followed the old isolation rules, even though I didn’t have to, because I don’t want to spread it.

SuckIt · 04/04/2022 12:36

Not me but I’ve had several friends who have had it. They haven’t isolated at all.I thought I may have had it, don’t have any LFTs so no knowing for sure although next day I was fine so I assumed I didn’t have it.
No idea though. I also didn’t isolate.

LoudParrot · 04/04/2022 12:39

I tested positive less than 2 weeks ago and had mild symptoms. I worked from home until my LFT became negative (which was day 7) and avoided meeting friends.

I did not isolate from my DH and DC, who were going about as normal, so that was the main way I could have passed it to someone else.

Bluebellfae · 04/04/2022 12:42

I'm on day 7 still unwell still testing positive and haven't been anywhere

Saladd0dger · 04/04/2022 12:45

I have isolated except the school run for DD6. I spoke to the school and dropped her off late and collected her early to avoid contact with anyone else. My employer doesn’t want us In with it so no work. 2nd day negative now and back to work later.

blibblibs · 04/04/2022 12:50

Day 6 here and still testing positive, haven't gone anywhere.
DH also day 6 and now negative so he'll be going to the supermarket tomorrow if he get another neg tomorrow.
DC tested neg throughout so they've been going to school.

UnaOfStormhold · 04/04/2022 12:50

Day 7 today, LFT positive this morning so I'm staying home for now. I'm getting a bit stir crazy and would love to go for a walk - the rain definitely helps there!

AlexaShutUp · 04/04/2022 12:54

Everyone I know is waiting until they test negative before going out and about again. Unless you really have no choice - eg can't work from home and can't afford to have the time off - then I think it's pretty selfish to go out when positive tbh.

TheoSawUs · 04/04/2022 12:55

The rules of the country I live in say that you must self isolate for 72 hours from date of positive covid test. If you test negative after 72 hours, you no longer need to isolate. After seven days, whether you test positive or negative, you no longer need to isolate. They seem pretty good rules of thumb although having said that, DH isolated until he tested negative, which took 11 days.

thenewduchessoflapland · 04/04/2022 12:58

@Bluebellfae

I'm on day 7 still unwell still testing positive and haven't been anywhere

Snap;it's my second brush with Covid and it's completely wiped me out this time around

CandleWick4 · 04/04/2022 12:59

We did a week of isolation. I tested negative after 5 days though. DD tested positive a full week ago but I haven’t continued to test her as she gets upset, no symptoms so we saw some family yesterday.

NewYearEveryYear · 04/04/2022 13:00

I'm on day 4 post positive, and day 8 post start of symptoms, I'll isolate until I get at least one negative.

rainbowandglitter · 04/04/2022 13:01

All my family had it and their households. They all isolated until they'd had 2 negative lfts

gettingolderandgrumpy · 04/04/2022 13:02

Will stay home until test negative praying it’s day 5 fortunately I can wfh . I’m not too well still but will go for a walk soon as I feel up to it regardless of my test .

Mindymomo · 04/04/2022 13:04

I cancelled dentist, as they didn’t want me there. Also cancelled hairdressers as they get a lot of elderly there. Only went for dog walks and crossed the road whenever someone was passing.

Silverbirch2 · 04/04/2022 13:07

I work in a school I'm day 3 today so I'm back on day 5 regardless whether I'm still testing positive 🤷‍♀️ hopefully I dont give anyone Covid for Easter!
Otherwise working from home and doing 1 school run as Dh can't.

CointreauVersial · 04/04/2022 13:07

DH tested positive yesterday, and is staying at home. He would be isolating, but we had a plumber booked - we told him about the positive test, and he wasn't bothered! So he's in the house with DH.

I'm still negative, and have no symptoms, so I've gone to work. Keeping a close eye on it, as I doubt I'll escape for long.

Although we are running out of tests, so will have to play things by ear somewhat....

Iamanunsafebuilding · 04/04/2022 13:12

I had it almost 3 weeks ago, I continued to walk the dog and made sure I stayed away from anyone I saw. I did need a couple of bits from the shop so I went early when it was quiet, wore a mask and didn't loiter.

user1497207191 · 04/04/2022 13:19

DS currently has it and is staying in his Uni flat until clear. He's the only one there (everyone else went home for Easter) and isn't going out at all. We went and took him a few bags of groceries yesterday to keep him going for the rest of the week, and then he's coming up next weekend once he's fully clear of it. We're both ECV so we didn't want him to come home with it and he's happy enough to stay in and study/play FIFA all week! It's the third time he's had to isolate at Uni. First time he had it along with a couple of others and they all stayed in, then the second time, he didn't have it, but some of the others did, so again, he isolated to stop spreading it just in case. Everyone says the youngsters don't care, but all of my son's flat mates have been really good about testing and isolating.

I think it's pretty selfish even if you can't afford to take time off. You're still putting the lives of people you meet at risk as you don't know they're not ECV, especially if working in their houses etc. Both me and OH are ECV and we're living a twilight existence by not going on holiday, limiting our shopping, not socialising etc. We'd be incredibly annoyed if a worker came into our home knowing they had covid! In fact, we're deliberately restricting who comes into our house because we can't trust people to be honest and stay away. For example, we're decorating our own lounge at the moment, we'd usually have a decorator, but we don't want anyone spending that amount of time in the house as we don't trust them to be honest about covid as we know they'll be wanting the money for the week of work booked and won't want to risk cancelling and not being paid.
Hotheadwheresthecoldbath · 04/04/2022 13:33

I am on day 4 and feel fine but isolating.
Dd is testing each morning before college so still going in.
Was unable to do the weekly shop so have had 3 days eating from the freezer and leftovers for 4 days.No wine!!!
Tesco delivery 10-11pm tonight, that was the first available slot booked Friday 6am. morning.

NothingIsWrong · 04/04/2022 13:42

@user1497207191

You do know what "can't afford" means for many people don't you? Rent, food, bills - I'm lucky and can work from home, although I hate it, but I absolutely would not put my families financial stability at risk if that was the alternative.

I haven't had it, my DD did last week and we kept her off school until she got two negatives, but we only have one box of tests left now so we aren't doing any routine testing any more.

HomeprideSaucy · 04/04/2022 13:45

Good Lord! I would take the dog out to the woods, but wouldn't go anywhere else I'd see people.

SummerySumner · 04/04/2022 14:01

I am still staying at home, wearing a mask and ventilating the house to protect other household members.

My day 5 line was incredibly dark, almost black, so I would worry about infecting vulnerable people.

Daqqe · 04/04/2022 14:02

How are you all testing though?! My neighbours used the last of their LFs to test positive over the weekend. They have none left, nor do we. So all they can really do is isolate for a few days & when feeling better, get back on with life?!

How much have the mumsnet crowd been stock piling LFTs?! 😂 meanwhile, the rest of the UK have zero access to testing anymore 🙈
