Who hasn't had covid yet?

We're a family of 5 and only one of us has ever tested positive for covid. We're obviously all bound to get it at some point but it occurred to me that once testing ceases we'll never be able to say confidently that we've had it (unless we're so ill with it that it's confirmed of course, but I hope that's unlikely). It's a bit like the people who were I'll before testing came a thing who thought they'd had it but weren't able to know for sure.

I thought this then we got it last week and there is absolutely no mistaking it's covid. We've spent the whole time thinking ooh maybe this nasty cold is covid to the extent we were so convinced once we didn't believe the tests. Then we got covid and the symptoms are so weird and unlike any cold.

PeacefulPrune · 22/02/2022 10:00

My family haven't had it apart from my son. We would never have guessed it was covid, all he had was a sore throat for a day. The only reason we tested him was because it was doing the rounds in his class.

I don't really see why I would need to know if I catch covid now.

Popetthetreehugger · 22/02/2022 10:01

Me and DH haven’t had it . I work in a school with 1500 kids . DH plays golf and tennis, where they were dropping like flies ! I don’t know why ? Just lucky ?

toomuchlaundry · 22/02/2022 10:02

As far as we aware we haven’t had it and neither have close family eg siblings/parents. We live in different parts of the country and have different levels of exposure eg we have DC in education and hospitality. Some of us test regularly so would assume we would have picked it up even if we had no symptoms

Same with my dd. She was mostly asymptomatic.

You're right, we don't need to know. I'd just like to know if I've had it Grin

It’s weird how differently it affects people, because we’ve all tested positive this week and unlike oinkyo I would absolutely have mistaken it for a cold.

squashyhat · 22/02/2022 10:04

Me, DH, most of both families, most friends and acquaintances. In fact I know fewer than 10 people who have had it.

BeenToldComputerSaysNo · 22/02/2022 10:06

Family of five - not yet.

Flapjacker48 · 22/02/2022 10:07

Pointless question as loads of people "who haven't had COVID" probably have had it with no symptoms.

GemmaAlone · 22/02/2022 10:07

I haven't had it. My children have.

toomuchlaundry · 22/02/2022 10:08

Although we haven’t had it, many of our friends have had it.

ChikaCherryCola · 22/02/2022 10:11

But lots of those people have been testing twice weekly for work etc so many who wouldn't ordinarily have known they had it, did know they had it. Granted, many also probably weren't testing and wouldn't have known. Well now go back to no testing and no one knowing. Which I don't have a problem with, it's just a bit of a mindset change after a year or so of testing.

Not that I know of. Never tested but never had symptoms either.

Yes its so weird!
Dentistlakes · 22/02/2022 10:25

None of us has had it, which amazes me since it’s been quite widespread in school. Of course we may have had it earlier on when testing was wasn’t in place and we’re all fully vaccinated which may reduce our chances of getting it. I’m just waiting for our turn as we’re bound to get it eventually.

Branleuse · 22/02/2022 10:26

family of 5. We have somehow managed to avoid it, despite probably being a bit lax the last year with masks and hand gel etc, although we have all had all the vaccinations offered as soon as we could. I am expecting we will all probably get it now they are removing all the restrictions, particularly the isolating when covid positive one.

EBearhug · 22/02/2022 10:33

Not knowingly, but I could have had it asymptomatically. I live alone, and WFH so I miss lots of opportunities for transmission, and I have a history of not picking up bugs going round, or getting them more mildly than others, so I assume I have a pretty robust immune system. All the tests I've had do far have been negative, but I've mostly only tested before going out with others, not twice a week, and I've not had symptoms.

merryhouse · 22/02/2022 10:43

Me - probably. Didn't LFT till Sept 21 (choir re-start) but S2 was testing twice weekly for school. Took a PCR couple of weeks ago because I had both a temperature and four of the five suggested symptoms of Omicron, but it came back negative.

S1 got it asymptomatically in December 2020 (his college were household-testing). S2 had a temperature for about 6 hours right at the start so - along with about 20% of the school - was off the last day before lockdown; but obviously we don't know whether that was it. H was ill from Christmas Eve 2019, but again no way of knowing (he didn't have anosmia).

Ninety-yo father with Alzheimer's had it summer 2020 and recovered.

Xenia · 22/02/2022 10:45

I don't think I have. I have not been ill for 3 years and had no reason to do a test as work from home and don't go out that much. I think I would know if I had had it at my age

MarshaBradyo · 22/02/2022 10:46

Not sure but I haven’t had any symptoms if i have

Dc had it and we didn’t stay apart and didn’t get a positive test

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 22/02/2022 10:49

Not as far as I know. Nor has DH.

But...
I might have had it a week before DDs... I had a bad migraine and slightly dodgy stomach. It wasn't until DD was sent home from school with a headache that I found out that was a possible symptom at that time.

With DH.. he had a positive LFT and then a negative PCR. The PCR was in Swindon in October during the time of the results mess up.

So... we might have. Or might not have.

HeyDiddleDee · 22/02/2022 10:52

I’m pretty sure I haven’t had it. I’ve been testing for medical appointments / education reasons fairly frequently since LFs were widely available (admittedly not twice a week). And have had PCRs on the few occasions I had symptoms, plus an antibody blood test as part of a covid study. All have always been negative.

Ragwort · 22/02/2022 10:59

Family of three - none of us (including Uni student DS) has had it, I have never 'stayed at home' was volunteering with very vulnerable people throughout the pandemic, work in retail, visit my very elderly DPs (who also didn't ever get it) .... Confused

OddsNSodsBitsNBobs · 22/02/2022 11:01

Nope, none of us, 2 adults and 2 teens. We have however had two (seperate occasions) positive LFT followed by negative PCR....

axolotlfloof · 22/02/2022 11:23

None of our family of 4 have had it, and all test regularly. Kids at secondary school and have frequently been exposed.
DH working indoors at workplace throughout.
I was really careful through 2020 and half of 2021, but now carry on as normal.
Some of my children's best friends have had covid twice.
