Who hasn't had covid yet?

We're a family of 5 and only one of us has ever tested positive for covid. We're obviously all bound to get it at some point but it occurred to me that once testing ceases we'll never be able to say confidently that we've had it (unless we're so ill with it that it's confirmed of course, but I hope that's unlikely). It's a bit like the people who were I'll before testing came a thing who thought they'd had it but weren't able to know for sure.

None of us - me, DH & DD(8) or my parents. Surprising as DH worked throughout all lockdowns.

Admittedly we've never been big on testing unless it was required to go somewhere or mixing with vulnerable people but none of us have had any symptoms.

What surprises me most is that DF hasn't had it as he has form for catching most things, he had to have two doses of Tamiflu when he caught swine flu, none of the rest of us caught that off him either.

Tumbleweed101 · 22/02/2022 23:04

I've not knowingly had it yet. Two of my daughters had it Xmas 2020, I didn't catch it. I've worked throughout in a nursery so high risk environment and most of my colleagues have caught it over the last couple years so I've had exposure to covid via them too.

The three of us at work who still haven't had covid are triple jabbed but also flu jabbed. We were speculating on if that made a difference.

Angliski · 22/02/2022 23:06

Strangely, no one in our close of 8 houses have had it. To our knowledge anyway…

Branster · 22/02/2022 23:18

Me and DH and most of our extended families (UK and another European country) have not had it to our knowledge.
All vaccinated adults are vaccinated but no particular restrictions in terms of socialising or going places.
Our DCs only had it recently although one I suspect had it Feb 2020 when it wasn't yet recognised.
Throughout the entire pandemic I have not known a single personal extended family member, friend, acquaintance or neighbour to have developed Covid. They started since January though so there has been a clear shift in my personal contacts both in the UK and abroad in various countries.

slaybell · 22/02/2022 23:21

Nobody at my work has had it except for me. And I've copped for it twice!

Nope.

3 jabs here plus flu jab and previous covid before vaccines.

Still got it a month after booster when supposedly most protected. Still felt like shit. I feel a bit conned 😂

ChikaCherryCola · 22/02/2022 23:33

I don't think there's any rhyme or reason to it 😂

What bad luck! I wonder if it was the same variant? Pointless wondering because you'll never know though 😂

Never. Been abroad 9 times during the pandemic. Scaremongering at its best.

BluebellsGreenbells · 23/02/2022 00:55

Once testing ends we’ll never know! 2/5 had it here of my sisters 3/4 have had it parents and grandparents haven’t.

Over all out of 18 close family 7 have caught it. So less than half.

2YearsOfWastedTime · 23/02/2022 02:25

@ChikaCherryCola
Thank you

It is Very bad luck!

I hadn't seen my niece for 18 months to ‘keep safe’ and the first time we get together, we all get it….

Suzi888 · 23/02/2022 02:32

Not knowingly. DD has, DH and I haven’t.

PurpleSapphire · 23/02/2022 02:49

As far as I know we haven't had it. Had three bad colds in the last two years that went through the family but all tested negative for covid.
I have no idea how we haven't caught it yet. Ds works in retail so comes into contact with hundreds of people every day, dd is at college, has spent time with teachers and students who came down with it. Ds and I are fully jabbed, dd isn't jabbed at all.
It makes no sense.

frenchiemummy92 · 23/02/2022 06:26

Family of four. Only DP has had a confirmed case.

easyluckyfree · 23/02/2022 08:16

I don’t want to jinx it but I’m a teacher and haven’t had it, including when 15 kids in my class were off with it. My colleague had 17 kids off and he didn’t get it either.

Sweetleftfood · 23/02/2022 09:40

Family of 4, kids 12 and 15 and none of us has tested positive and have been testing a lot (for work and school) can't obviously say for certain but if we've had it it has been utterly symptomless for all of us

Veryvversatile · 23/02/2022 09:50

I thought I hadn't had it, but then I did an antibody test and found I had a high level, same with family members, so we must have all had it and were asymptomatic. I have heard this with other people app since finding out myself.

Hairbrush123 · 23/02/2022 10:03

I have never had it knowingly. DH has had it though

NotTerfNorCis · 23/02/2022 23:16

Not had it, neither has OH, but know loads of people who have had it.

wondersun · 23/02/2022 23:25

If you were unlucky and caught long covid knowing might be the difference between getting the help you need or not.

Seveninahouse · 25/02/2022 11:18

Family of seven, only DH vaccinated. One DC has had it just recently.

User1isnotavailable · 25/02/2022 13:35

Many people may have had it and not realised it. Unless testing every few days for the entire 2 years it's been around then how would you definitely know!

Wannabangbang · 27/02/2022 14:25

We as a family of 6 avoided it for the whole 2 years now we all have covid and symptoms been pretty crap. Most of us vaccinated except younger ones and full blown sinuses blocked, vomiting, loss of taste abd smell for me, extreme fatigue completely bunged up. Never want to feel like this again so get to clever it's spreading like wildfire now

Howshouldibehave · 27/02/2022 14:41

Nope, I haven’t. Have tested twice a week for work and daily when household members have had it, but never got even the faintest of lines.

Everyone else I live with has had it-it’s bizarre.

Curlygirl06 · 27/02/2022 15:55

I work in a supermarket and have worked all through, before social distancing, screens, hand sanitizer etc. I've not had it, and not that many staff have either, considering.
My daughter is a teacher and she's just caught it last week, and her little boy caught it from her, though both of them have been in school throughout.
Conversely, son, dil and 3 young grandchildren have had it twice each.

Very strange how it works.
