Who hasn't had covid yet?

We're a family of 5 and only one of us has ever tested positive for covid. We're obviously all bound to get it at some point but it occurred to me that once testing ceases we'll never be able to say confidently that we've had it (unless we're so ill with it that it's confirmed of course, but I hope that's unlikely). It's a bit like the people who were I'll before testing came a thing who thought they'd had it but weren't able to know for sure.

Family of 4. DD is only one who's had it.

ChikaCherryCola · 22/02/2022 11:32

I find it really interesting. Dh has gone to work throughout. Hasn't tested positive for it. All three DC have been in school, only one has knowingly had it. Some people I know have had it twice. My dd's friend is on her third time (confirmed by PCRs) and others (as far as we can know) haven't had it at all. It's interesting how some people seem to be hit more frequently with it.

Daughter has had it. Other daughter and us 2 have never had it. Confirmed by antibody blood tests (part of vaccine trial).

Skyeheather · 22/02/2022 11:37

Family of four - DP wfh, I'm sahm, one DC at school, one toddler - none of us have had it so far........

megletthesecond · 22/02/2022 11:39

Me and DD haven't had it yet.

Justkeeppedaling · 22/02/2022 11:40

DH and I haven't had it yet. I've been going in to work and we both go out shopping, pub, restaurants, cinema etc.

NerrSnerr · 22/02/2022 11:41

None of us have had it (family of 4). I'm a nurse and have worked throughout, husband has worked out of the house throughout and children stayed in school/ nursery and have done their usual sports activities when they've been open. We LFT regularly and feel very lucky!

Jules912 · 22/02/2022 11:46

Family of 4, as far as I'm aware DD is the only one to have had it. I do wonder if DS had it asymptomatically at some point as can't believe he avoided it despite near constant expose since November.

guineapigs · 22/02/2022 11:46

I haven't had it. Dh and dc had delta last summer. I didn't have any symptoms and tested negative on pcr and lfts.

ffscovid · 22/02/2022 11:50

Family of 4 and none of us have had it. DH and I are triple-jabbed (with Moderna). DC are 11 and 10 so not jabbed. DC are surrounded by it at school and this has been the case since late November.
Our DParents and other close family haven't had it either. DC1 reckons we've got the 'immune genes' whatever they are Grin

TheDogsMother · 22/02/2022 11:50

Just me and DH here and neither of us has had it. We both WFH so that reduces contact but we have been going out (pubs, restaurants, cinema etc).

Rewis · 22/02/2022 11:51

Haven't had it. And about 3 weeks ago first people in my social circle tested positive. Since then a few others (manager, cousins child) but last week my brother and 3/4 of his family tested positifw and they were the first people I'm close to to have gotten it (to my knowledge).

TheFormidableMrsC · 22/02/2022 12:02

I haven't had it. I have been super careful as I was having cancer treatment for the first 14 months of the pandemic.

I have lived fairly normally since that stopped although I am really careful with hygiene and always mask. Both things I will continue to do.

I also have a primary age child, he's swerved it so far (as far as I am aware) although most of his class has had it, some more than once. His teacher hasn't had it either. My eldest is at uni and has a London based customer facing job which requires tube travel to get to. She hasn't had it either although she was very poorly in the February before the pandemic was announced so she could have had it then but we'll never know.

JollyAndBright · 22/02/2022 12:03

We haven’t had it (me, DP and DS15)
My parent haven’t had it, and my mum is a nurse.
My sister, her husband and their DCs haven’t had it.
My other sister and her partner haven’t had it.
MIL hasn’t had it.

We’ve all done lateral flow tests on a weekly basis so that we can socialise with each other as my sisters partner has a health condition that makes them extremely vulnerable.
DS does three tests a week for school.

So I can be pretty confident none of us have had it.

TheFormidableMrsC · 22/02/2022 12:10

To add, I've never caught flu either despite reaching 52 years old and many many years of commuting under my belt. I hope I haven't jinxed myself now!!

JuergenSchwarzwald · 22/02/2022 12:15

As far as we know we've not had it. DH does a lateral flow test every time he goes into the office and they've all been negative.

containsnuts · 22/02/2022 12:24

We haven't had it despite knowing others on their 2nd round. It spreads in mysterious ways though.

My brother caught it at Christmas but didn't spread it to wife and kids. Then weirdly the youngest daughter caught it about 5 weeks later (presumably from school) but again it didn't spread to mum or sister.

My totally uneducated theory is that some people are just unable to spread covid despite being infected. Some can catch and spread, while others are somehow resistant to catching it altogether.

Whatdramain2022 · 22/02/2022 12:24

We went all this time without catching it, then two weeks ago we both got it. DH had a bit of a cold. I was quite bad despite being triple jabbed. I've had severe flu which has wiped me out, but this is completely different. No fever, but horrendous night sweats, dementia type symptoms and sneezing. I have scarred lungs as I've had every type of chest infection going. I've never smoked either. I have asthma too so I think if I'd not been triple jabbed I'd have died, as my friend did.

gogohm · 22/02/2022 12:25

I've never tested positive but I'm pretty sure I had it in March 2020. Wasn't ill though

ChikaCherryCola · 22/02/2022 12:30

It sounds like you had a terrible time. I'm glad you're through the other side of it, even if you do have some lasting effects. Sorry to hear about your friend, too. Flowers

Why would you think you'd had it if you weren't ill?

Family of 5 and all kids had it in September. Dd who is 9 on second bout of it but has tested negative on LFT on day 6 and so far (fingers crossed) the rest of us haven’t had it. DH and I to our knowledge haven’t had it! Triple jabbed and took precautions when kids had it eg dedicated toilets for dc, distancing etc.

pradavilla · 22/02/2022 12:34

My immediate family hasn't had it. 2 kids at nursery, I'm wfh and dh works out of the home with around 25 others in small space. I'm surprised he hasn't picked it up or the kids actually the nursery had a really bad outbreak at one point and all kids had to get tested. Lots ended up having it with no symptoms

My bil has had it and my sister twice and nephew once and that's it for our whole family.

Topseyt · 22/02/2022 12:40

Family of 5 here.

Only DD3 has ever had it (very strongly positive LFT and PCR tests) and she was away at university at the time. She was quite ill with it for a few days and then bounced back quickly.

The other four of us have not had it as far as we know, unless totally asymptomatic or so mild we didn't notice.

popsickle555 · 22/02/2022 12:41

@OinkyO interesting! What were the symptoms like for you? I was trying to explain this to my mum the other day. I have had Covid twice, once before vaccines in 2020 (HELL) and ill for months, second time in January this year (had two vaccines) and mild. This time was VERY similar feeling to round one but at about 5% of original intensity but included a myriad of weird Covid symptoms and for me was nothing really like a cold except for a slight sore throat . The rest were Covid weird symptoms as i know them but when I explain this to people they don't seem to get it. Some people do just seem to have 'a cold'. Mine seems to be odd stuff like tinnitus, insomnia, sweats, nerve pains, high HR, sore back, nausea, muscle pain, headache. Both times confirmed Covid but this time at least not really any cold symptoms. My first time was more cough / chest stuff as well as all the 'weird' stuff and went on many months. This time lasted 10 days.
