Boyfriend announced he’s an anti vaxxer

So been seeing someone since November and he dropped the bombshell that he’s an anti vaxxer.

I’ve had both vaccines plus booster as it’s the right thing to do.

Are we doomed or should I get over this?

OP posts:
Twizbe · 15/02/2022 21:28

For me it would be pretty doomed. Especially if he extended that to childhood vaccinations

TheMiMit · 15/02/2022 21:28

Deal breaker for me (it's a divisive, highly politicised issue and I would worry what else we were seriously misaligned on)

wonderfulworld45 · 15/02/2022 21:29

What do you mean by "anti-vax"

Charliesgotachocolatefactory · 15/02/2022 21:30

Doomed.

LubaLuca · 15/02/2022 21:31

I'd lose respect for him, so that would be the end of it.

PAFMO · 15/02/2022 21:31

I couldn't go out with someone so clearly intellectually inferior.

L40Postcode · 15/02/2022 21:31

Depends what you mean by "announced" and "anti vaxxer".

If he said he chose not to have the vaccine because he felt it had been rushed through, not enough testing, blah blah I'd probably be ok with that.

If he believes it contains a microchip or the vaccination programme is a plot by the government to make us all infertile I'd run for the hills.

RoseAndRose · 15/02/2022 21:32

Probably doomed

Good job you found out early on

MadMadMadamMim · 15/02/2022 21:33

It would be doomed for me. I'd assume he was into conspiracy theories and a bit dim.

Enough to give me the 'ick'.

Wolfiefan · 15/02/2022 21:34

Has he chosen not to get the COVID vaccine because he feels the risk to him of covid is small and he has particular medical reasons to avoid it
OR
Is he a loon who thinks all vaccines are just big pharma raking in the cash for poisoning us all?
First I could live with. Second would see me running for the hills.

KatharinaRosalie · 15/02/2022 21:34

What level of anti-vaxxer? 'I'm young and healthy and following other recommendations, so will take the risk' or 'lizard people are microchipping us all'?

MrsBlondie · 15/02/2022 21:34

What @L40Postcode said. Depends on reasons. I'd have no problem if just didn't want it fir fear of speed of vaccine etc. And as long as not against childhood vaccines such as polio etc.

Aquamarine1029 · 15/02/2022 21:35

Doomed. 100%. Stop wasting your time.

ScrumptiousBears · 15/02/2022 21:36

For me it's not so much the not wanting the covid vaccine although I think that's just stupid. It's what else seems to come with a lot of these new breed antivaxers where they think we're all sheep and slag people off on social media, start to believe random conspiracy theories and like other have said, does this also mean childhood vaccines. Personally it's a no from me 🤣

SickAndTiredAgain · 15/02/2022 21:37

I agree. To me, the phrase “anti vax” makes me think more of people who either refuse all vaccines (and wouldn’t want their children having them), people who think the vaccine is some sort of conspiracy to do something, or someone loudly calling for others to not take the vaccine. But sometimes “anti vax” is used for someone who has had other vaccines, would give their child all the recommended ones, doesn’t think it’s a conspiracy, doesn’t say others shouldn’t have them, just doesn’t want the covid one themselves.

The first one, crazy conspiracy theorist who wouldn’t give their child any vaccinations, I wouldn’t want to be with.
The second one, I’d have more time for.

Figgygal · 15/02/2022 21:38

Chosen to not have the vaccine or rabid science denying anti vaxxer?
I have some time for the first and less than none for the second

Svara · 15/02/2022 21:38

What did he actually say?

Yeahthat · 15/02/2022 21:40

I'd agree. More information required.
Enjoyingaquickdip · 15/02/2022 21:49

Mmmm ..... doomed I suspect. There'll be all sorts of other stupid stuff going on in their heads that will really get to you in the end

themental · 15/02/2022 21:53

Agree with pps it depends on his reasons. Microchips and carbon razors = not for me. Not statistically at much risk (so basically under 60 and healthy) = I'd crack on.

jadey1991 · 15/02/2022 21:54

I wouldn't say it's a doomed relationship. It all depends on what you mean by anti vax..
I've had all my childhood vacations but I won't get the flu jab or covid.. but I'm not anti vax

thenewduchessoflapland · 15/02/2022 21:56

I couldn't date an anti vaxxer. It would be a deal breaker for me.

jadey1991 · 15/02/2022 21:56

Tbf I think more science needs to be done around the covid vaccinations before I think about putting it in my body. There isn't enough information. Tbh it takes 10years of research for a vaccination to be approved whereas the covid I believe( don't quote me) had less the 1 year of research done.

thenightsky · 15/02/2022 21:56

So antivaxx means all vaccines. Weird.

Just one vaccine I could understand him making his choice.

Charles11 · 15/02/2022 21:58

I don’t think it’s necessarily doomed. The crazy anti vaxxers would think you’re shedding the virus (whatever that means) and wouldn’t date you.
