I wasn’t ok with the policy so I’m happy to hear this.

Stuffin · 31/01/2022 07:10

Very happy to hear this (tripled vaxed myself).

Really sorry for the care workers that were not afforded such a u turn Sad

OliveTree75 · 31/01/2022 07:10

@caringcarer

I am sorry if medical and care staff don't get vaccinated. I would not want to be treated by an anti vaxer.
Thankfully you won't ever knowSmile
Stuffin · 31/01/2022 07:14

I really don't understand the reasoning of those that would prefer to be treated by an under resourced department or have serious delays versus being treated by someone who hasn't been vaccinated for covid. I think those people are really going to struggle to get their heads around all the restrictions including self isolating going.

And all the care home residents who were at the mercy of short staffing, high staff turn over, unfamiliar agency staff when they need consistency who were royally fucked again when their carers were forced to leave.

And there are still covid outbreaks shutting homes for weeks everywhere, despite everyone being double and mostly triple jabbed, visitors taking LFT on the premises before being allowed to see anybody (and sometimes the outbreaks occur right at the end of the care home being closed to visitors for weeks after an initial outbreak when triple jabbed members of staff test positive and pass it on, it’s happens twice at the home my father is in).

So it made perfect sense, didn’t it?

TotalRhubarb · 31/01/2022 07:17

Glad about this. It must always be the right of each person to decide what happens to their own body.

In the context of no adequate financial or medical support in the event of vaccine damage and the ability to transmit Covid while fully vaccinated, it was always unacceptable that somebody could lose their livelihood and career over this.

I suspect the government has u-turned because of logistical consequences from needing to sack so many workers otherwise, rather than suddenly developing a respect for the autonomy of the individual, but it’s welcome nonetheless.

Roselilly36 · 31/01/2022 07:18

At last, an absolutely ridiculous policy especially as the mandate only covered England NHS staff, utter nonsense. I would be happy to be treated by a HCP regardless of COVID 19 vaccine status. This insane fear has to stop.

Undecicive · 31/01/2022 07:18

@Itsnotover

Whilst some NHS workers fall into that category, most do not. Many are young, healthy, and at relatively low personal risk of serious illness with covid. I still think they'd be better off vaccinated (I'm enthusiastically triple jabbed) but if the argument is we're mandating vaccination for individual protection, reducing mortality, and cutting the burden on the NHS, then we're targetting the wrong groups.

The problem is that vaccination programmes don't work effectively without a high uptake. It's clear that the sizeable group of antivaxxers have succeeded in undermining its efficacy at least to some extent.

These are the people treating the vulnerable and potentially spreading Covid.
Alexandra2001 · 31/01/2022 07:21

Why was it ever introduced?

Policies made on the hoof like this is terrible government and what about apologizing/compensating the staff who lost their jobs in Care homes?

What would they do if a more virulent version came along? re introduce? its a joke.

Ahh 'caring' but only they think like you do?
userxx · 31/01/2022 07:25

Great news. Nobody should be blackmailed to do anything against their will.

So you'd ask every medical staff who treats you if they're vaccinated and refuse treatment if they're not? Yeah, course you would. 🤨
nellytheelephant1980 · 31/01/2022 07:30

This is fantastic news. I am pro-vax, but totally and utterly against mandates and this coercion we’ve seen. A great daySmile

ahcmonnow · 31/01/2022 07:34

Fantastic news! Gutted for those who were already coerced into getting it or bullied to leave for not.

ldontWanna · 31/01/2022 07:34

These are the people treating the vulnerable and potentially spreading Covid.

They are also the people who treated the vulnerable from the start of the pandemic, with no vaccine,no adequate PPE, shortage of staff and equipment and possibly caught covid themselves.

But we forgot about that didn't we?

Sloughsabigplace · 31/01/2022 07:35

All this, “Well, I wouldn’t want to be treated by an anti vaxxer” - let me tell you, if you turn up in A&E after a horrific accident, or find out you have cancer and need urgent treatment, you won’t care if it’s a trained monkey treating you if they had the relevant qualifications.

sashagabadon · 31/01/2022 07:35

Good!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 31/01/2022 07:35

@Undecicive vaccinated are also spreading Covid. To a lesser extent, but still spreading it.

Narutocrazyfox · 31/01/2022 07:36

A victory for common sense!

I am thrilled for the NHS staff who wished to keep their jobs. Hurrah!

FflosFfantastig · 31/01/2022 07:36

Finally some decent news. Nobody forced into having a vaccine they don't want through the removal of their employment. All those doctors and nurses that were never a 'danger' to patients, and worked their arses off pre vaccine can keep doing what they trained for. Too late I am sure for some, but this is an extremely positive piece of news.

Yes absolutely this!!
sashagabadon · 31/01/2022 07:40

I also think patients should be able to refuse to be treated by someone unvaccinated too. That’s their right. Although it does raise confidentiality and logistical issues so I think that is unworkable / unfeasible in practice.
I think most patients would prefer an unvaccinated midwife for example than no midwife at all.

TabithaTittlemouse · 31/01/2022 07:42

Lots of my colleagues have already moved on, they weren’t going to wait to be jobless. I am relieved obviously but it shouldn’t have taken this long to make that decision.

Knowing that I will be working with unvaccinated staff is better than working with no staff.

What happens to care home workers?

Alexandra2001 · 31/01/2022 07:42

Don't get the "good news" bit ... this debacle was caused by this Govt, who at the 11th hour appear to have u-turned... its terrible decision making.

Javid wanted to sack NHS workers who worked their socks off, at great danger to themselves in just a few days time.

He is as useless as his boss.

I know, I do feel like saying to those who are so high handly doing the 'hhrrummmph, well I won't be taking treatment or getting care from someone I don't approve of' Well you do realise, no-one is forcing you to have treatment you don't want to accept? No one is going to try and make it law that you'll be held down for a medical treatment, you don't have to accept this care. It's you that wants to force this way of life on other people!
