If you are a HCP what do you think about the vaccine rules coming in?

Does it bother you that colleagues are unvaccinated? Or is it more worrying about the potential staff shortages?

I am and I think it's a good idea. We need HCP to be good at looing at clinical data and deciding which is the best course of action for their patients - depending on the available data; a clinician deciding not to do that is not a good one and maybe needs a different career.

Interestingly, I could have pin pointed which of my (few) peers who have chosen not to be vaccinated in advance.

I think it makes sense and I'm fine with it. I had some sympathy for people who felt hesitant in the beginning, but the vaccines have been around for more than a year now and are the reason that our lives have the level of normality that they do. For healthcare staff to be unvaxxed without good reason is no longer acceptable IMO

100% Just because someone is an HCP doesn't automatically mean thry understand and can interpret evidence based medicine. You'd hope so, but no. Most HCPs work within guidelines, few are truly autonomous (only doctors and some advanced practitioners), which literally means someone else (the hospital / other big bodies of experts) tell them what to do in x situation.

Oh... A bit like the "get vaccinated" thing isn't it.

I'm a nurse, very pro vaccine but don't agree with it being mandatory currently, we're desperately short staffed, there are no nurses as it is.

This. Those oh so "dangerous unvaccinated" HCPs who are treating people now were adequate enough during the early days of the pandemic with shit PPE, no vaccine, and no real knowledge about the virus or how to treat it. Clap em, and sack em.

There are a number of vaccinations that are already mandatory for anyone working in healthcare so I’m not sure I understand the problem with have the Covid vaccination

They were known prior to people applying to those jobs. And none were mandated by law.

Wales NHS here so not impacted (yet!).
Whilst I wish everyone would get a vaccine I struggle that people will loose their jobs over this. People who have worked all the way through the most difficult times in NHS history.

It's not just HCPs
It's anyone patient facing, receptionists, porters, domestics, Caterers etc

All very important cogs in the giant hospital machine. I know 8 people in my department who haven't been vaccinated. It's worrying tbh

When isolation is scrapped they will technically be able to work whilst positive. Not that many would actually do that I'm sure, but technically, won't be against the law. We need to get all this worrying into perspective.

There's every possibly people may be being treated by someone with actual Covid. Yet everyone is worrying more about unvaccinated HCP's.

I am not saying that compulsory isolation shouldn't end. I believe it should actually. But let's get things into perspective when we think about risk...

I’m a fully vaccinated nurse. I believe in vaccines but not mandates. One of the most experienced nurses (20years) in my specialty is going to be a benefits assessor, turning down the poorest and sickest in the country for money they really need. It sucks.
The government is saying from March, we won’t get tested for Covid and can go out and about with it. Whilst simultaneously sacking 10% of the workforce for not getting a vaccination for something they don’t see as a risk. It makes no logical sense.

haveyouopenedyourbowelsyet, heard an interview with Mark Drakeford this week, who said he didnt agree with mandatory vaccinations, and any non vaccinated English HCPs are welcome to apply for work here (Wales).. it really came across like it wasnt going to happen.

I’m really worried about the affect it will have on staffing. Not just doctors and nurses but occupational therapy, admin, social workers, cleaners, porters etc. We are already stretched and it’s only going to get worse.

I am fully vaccinated and do think that we need to protect the people in our care but the thought of all of those people soon to be sacked makes me really uncomfortable.

It is scary, and it will be the patients who suffer. If staff are leaving due to the mandates, then other vaccinated staff will leave due to the pressure they are under. It is all round an awful situation for the patients.

I’m an ICU nurse, all my vaccines but I don’t believe in making it mandatory. Staffing is horrific and it’s only going to get worse. People are leaving in droves anyway because it’s so short staffed and stressful. Part of me wonders if this is another calculated plan by the tories to sell off the nhs by running it into the ground.

The whole thing is insane! Are we going to start asking the patients who come in if they’re vaccinated? If they’re not then throw them out? I read the Consultant who challenged Sajid is going to take it to court. Good for him but it shouldn’t have to come to that.

As my NN would indicate I am all for the vaccine but personally hate the idea that we should lose staff who aren't vaccinated. I feel education is the key and understanding where people are coming from who haven't yet had the vaccine, IMHO trying to force it on people will just drive them away and make them less likely to take it when offered. I would struggle to vaccinate someone because they were being forced to just to keep their job.

Although I wouldn't like to work with an unvaccinated person I'm hoping we keep 'hands, face, space' in our working environments to mitigate this.

It makes no sense, I don't know who is vaccinated or not at work, same with the patients we deal with who are allowed to make informed decisions about their own health good or bad. Not like we can say we are not treating unvaccinated patients is it so I'm certainly not concerned about working with unvaccinated colleagues! But from what I've seen you are just as likely to catch it from someone vaccinated, proven multiple times over Xmas with colleagues gatherings (majority of people at one Xmas dinner positive one after another despite all vaccinated) and with the covid positive patients we've had in the hospital despite being triple vaccinated. We were good enough to be thrown to the wolves march 2020 and expected to work with no PPE when everybody else was told to stay home and stay safe (believe me a Thursday night clap was not enough to make catching covid worthwhile!) but now we're not allowed to work without vaccines now the worst is over🤔 🤷

It's frustrating that I'm supposed to be considering adapting roles not to client face when I have staff with medical issues who would benefit from working at home, and staff who have requested an increase In work from home that have been denied, but am supposed to be finding them for Jane who thinks that there's 5g in the vaccine

It's unfair that people refusing the vaccine are being moved to work from home roles that aren't available to people who are vaccinated
