Does it bother you that colleagues are unvaccinated? Or is it more worrying about the potential staff shortages?

Interesting article here.

I am triple jabbed.
I don’t want my colleagues to be kicked out because they are unvaccinated.

Do I think it’s showing their clinical decisions are crap? Nope. It’s certainly not my experience working with those people. They are still professional and able to do their job well. Like they’ve always done, including in the past two years when they were so needed.

It hasn’t escaped me that some people thought they are not needed anymore when things seem to be settling down a bit with covid but they had no issue with them taking risk with their own life by asking them to carry in treating patients with no PPE available, inadequate masks etc…. (The mask issue still been there btw)

The Telegraph reporting a U-turn now.

Good

UnicornsReal · 30/01/2022 22:36

@ColdToTheBones

But doesn't the efficacy of the vaccine wane over time until it's pretty much useless?

But despite knowing this, there's no plan to do a 4th booster, so soon won't everyone be completely unprotected anyway?

Plus the booster isn’t effective against omicron anyway.
rambleonplease · 30/01/2022 23:00

@UnicornsReal the efficacy of the booster vaccine works against omricon in so much that it reduces the risk of severe disease or death. That is what it's meant to do. It's less effective at preventing you from contracting Covid. That does not make it ineffective.

So we are told. I’m not sure how that has been worked out though with such a recent variant which is much less serious anyway.

LadyLolaRuben · 31/01/2022 02:29

I really hope this U turn is true

rambleonplease · 31/01/2022 05:21

@UnicornsReal
Well seeing as omricon is fatal for some I am not sure it can simply be described as mild.

This is an interesting read though on the clinical picture of omricon and the contribution of vaccines/ natural immunity to that or if it's presentation is intrinsic to the virus.

Headlines on BBC website would suggest a U-turn may be coming, meeting later apparently

rambleonplease · 31/01/2022 08:22

Good! Except what the government spokesperson should be saying instead of omricon is milder, is that vaccines don't reduce transmission as much as we hoped! Also a real shame this was not thought of before it was implemented in social care costing 40,000 jobs in a sector that is in an even worse state than the NHS.

Not yet scrapped. No instructions sent to healthcare providers to confirm we should stop. So for 2 weeks consultation it is as it was.

It was a totally different situation. It was pre-omicron when delta, a more serious strain, was prevailing. It was also heading towards winter when respiratory infections become more virulent.

@WouldIBeATwat

Sajivid confirmed in Parliament that mandatory vaccines have been scrapped and oh, that's an old article you referenced.

I work in the NHS. We had an email today saying that all disciplinary meetings have been cancelled and we are no longer required to be vaccinated but encourage us to do so.

Oh yeah. I'm not vaccinated. So glad I waited.

rambleonplease · 01/02/2022 17:22

@WouldIBeATwat yet it cost 40,000 social care jobs. The poor cousin of the NHS. As for delta being a more severe strain... see article I linked below.

I’ve read his speech to Parliament in full 3 times today. He DIDN’T say that.

He said that was the intention, and consultation would start. Nothing in there about what to do in the meantime.

What your NHS trust is doing may not be in line with legislation. That’s their risk. I’m employed to keep my organisation legally safe.

WouldIBeATwat · 01/02/2022 17:25

He needs Parliament to agree for a start. He can’t just overrun a law on his own. Hmm

WouldIBeATwat · 01/02/2022 17:25

@WouldIBeATwat Whether you like it or not. Mandatory vaccines have been scrapped.

It ain’t over yet. (Legally speaking.)

Will save me and my team a lot of work, but I don’t take legal instruction from Mumsnet or the Daily Mail.

As the legislative process of this country hasn’t changed over night, NO THEY HAVEN’T

Have highlighted the key points of what he said. At no point does he advise NHS organisations stop.

theworldsgonefeckingmad · 01/02/2022 17:34

I've been to A&E today, never occurred to me to ask if the triage nurse or the doctor who went on to treat me, or the cleaners who cheerily cleaned up crumbs left by a child in the waiting area if they had been vaccinated...unless I asked all the other patients sat there in the room aswell what is the point really. I'm grateful to live in a country where I can go to A&E and be treated effectively.
Will those refusing treatment by unvaccinated NHS staff also not go ANYWHERE without having proof their shopkeeper/barber/taxi driver etc had been vaccinated. Will you refuse your post unless the postie can prove their vaccinated status?
Vaccinate yourself if you want protection from serious illness and mind your own business about everyone else

secular39 · 01/02/2022 17:35

He said this:

"The deadline is no longer applicable....there will be no further enforcement of the regulations."

There is now NO requirement for a first dose by 3rd Feb

That is enough for me.

UnicornsReal · 01/02/2022 17:39

They have made themselves look like absolute idiots.
