Anyone else done now?

VeryMuchSo13 · 21/01/2022 19:26

Know I'll get slated but I'm so past caring.

Anyone else just completely done with it now? Ran out of LFTs ages ago and I'll never do another again, wouldn't even go for a PCR now with symptoms tbh. I'd stay in until I felt better like I do with everything else and then crack on.

The only reason I wear masks in shops is because of people moaning if you don't. As soon as it's no longer required that'll be in the bin.

I actually took it really seriously the past two years and did everything we were supposed to. Triple jabbed etc etc... But I can't be arsed giving it anymore headspace now. I'm sick of hearing about it, sick of seeing it on the news, sick of people talking about it.

From today on I highly doubt I'll ever voluntarily think about Covid again, in a way that restricts anything I do anyway.

There are certainly some people who for their own health reasons want everyone else to hide, wear masks, lock down, close the schools and trash our kids education.

I always thought that when Covid hit we needed to focus on the people it was going to affect. Could you imagine though if the government had said 75 year old’s needed to lockdown and stay away from people for their own health. If care homes were closed and the focus was given to protect those people as a special case. They were the priority. It largely affected them. We know that even more so now. There would have been complete uproar if that had been announced and the older people would have accused the government of picking on them so instead we locked down the whole country, gave our kids billions of £ of debt.

I am not sure we shouldn’t have protected the people covid really did affect and do something special for them rather than lump everyone in together.

MarshaBradyo · 21/01/2022 20:44

@southeastdweller

I was done a while ago. Don't test, don't wear masks anymore, not having a booster. It's pretty much over. There's other things we should be prioritising now, as a country.

How long will it before someone says 'The virus isn't done with YOU!'?

Ha yep
AColdDuncanGoodhew · 21/01/2022 20:45

I'm very done.

Worked in ICU in full PPE during summer in glass boxes, unbearably hot. Went back to theatre as I was just done and the covid pathways and restrictions have such an impact on our day to day running of theatre.

Triple jagged, mask wearing, social distancing, rule following. I used to shower after every single shift before even saying hello to my family, used to wipe down my steering wheel etc

Currently day 9 of covid, finally testing negative but have been on antibiotics and steroids for the last 3 days. Our whole house came down with it, eugh!

So wiped out and just drained with it all. Cabin fever is high just now!

Rainbowbrite2022 · 21/01/2022 20:54

The army has arrived to help out in some hospitals but yeah it’s over…. Everyone is totally done with covid but unfortunately it’s now not just a cold. It’s still covid and it’s not mild for everyone. People aren’t just dying ‘with’ it they are still dying because of it.

I’m not saying normal life shouldnt happen or we should lock down/have loads of restrictions But just because we are done with it doesn’t mean having childrens classes close because their teachers are sick Is not normal either. My local can’t open atm due to staff off sick. Letting covid overwhelm hospitals ( just because it’s not reported doesn’t mean it’s not happening) means those cancer and other sick patients that always get mentioned may get their treatment delayed just like my dad because of the covid cases and staff issues.

Staff in my trust aren’t off just isolating they are actually off sick with covid and actually are symptomatic.

Lesperance · 21/01/2022 20:54

So this post is kind of a final hurrah and then you are never thinking about covid again?
Right.
This reads like a facebook flouce, to be honest, those are always entertaining too.

Katieandthekids · 21/01/2022 20:55

I am 100% with you OP. I only wear a mask so I don't get abuse. I can't do it anymore. I know people are scared especially those who were on the shielding list but they have to realise they were at risk before of other bugs too we just didn't talk about it.

SymbollocksInteractionism · 21/01/2022 20:56

@BettyfromBristol if you have been recently diagnosed as CEV I'm guessing you have recently been diagnosed with a health condition.
It must be a worrying time for you 💐

The worst of the pandemic is over now though and the vaccines are working well. The majority of people with omicron have mild symptoms. I know two people who have it just now who are CEV and were on the shielding list. They have had very few symptoms. I have omicron just now and had covid in Jan 2020. I have been tired but no symptoms that are worrying (last time I was very breathless and chesty)
Omicron seems to be more upper respiratory and not lungs (realise this is just anecdotal)

Lesperance · 21/01/2022 20:59

I would bet this doesn't get beyond a couple of pages as well.
Why is it that the posts that say things like "I'm going to get flamed " are always really, really boring? I think it is because they are usually the millionth on any given subject and so people have seen that others have generated lots of responses, but by the time you get this type of post, the moment has past and it has been done. It's like the boring people who announce that they are soooo wacky or SUCH a rebel.

Lilifer · 21/01/2022 21:07

@BettyfromBristol

No, not done here. Was diagnosed as CEV last week so will be doing my best to avoid people who simply don't care about me and the very many people in the same situation.

Lucky for you to be "done" with it though.

Oh give over 😒
MrsSkylerWhite · 21/01/2022 21:16

Flyonawalk

@MrsSkylerWhite That is a brilliant post. I wish you all continued good health“

Oh, thank you.

Our (the nation’s) young ones have had a pretty rough ride of it the past couple of years but they’re really excelled themselves (we think, anyway).

This continues to be a real threat to lots of people but I think that on balance we’ve now really reached the point where people have to take heed of their own, personal circumstances.

We want young ones to live the life we did.

Sparklingbrook · 21/01/2022 21:18

My CEV relative has spent the last two years worrying about getting Covid. I think had they caught it early on it would have been terrifying and they shielded and we did as much as we could. This was before they got 4 jabs and we knew very little about it.
They ended up catching it over Christmas just gone and we were very concerned, they didn't feel great for a day or two, we followed the instructions and got access to an anti viral drip of sotrovimab and they came through fine.

bakewelltarty · 21/01/2022 21:27

I bet the OP is a bit miffed no one has come on to 'flame' her yet. I wonder what the general feeling would have been if covid had affected young people and children? I wonder if all the old and CEV would 'be done' with it now?

Sparklingbrook · 21/01/2022 21:30

I don't think the klaxon has gone off yet, the flamers will probably arrive soon.

MrsSkylerWhite · 21/01/2022 21:33

iggly

That’s all very well but that wasn’t the reason for shutting down.
It was to not overwhelm the NHS. That bit needs resolving still!!

Yes, of course. Unfortunately, the NHS was very close to being overwhelmed each winter prior to Covid. Therein lies the problem as it did for quite some time.

In the meantime, we really do all need to do what we can, personally, to look after ourselves.

Easier said than done, of course, if you’re living in poverty.

We didn't shut down for polio that damaged children. This isn't the first novel disease we've faced
Tealightsandd · 21/01/2022 21:41

We want young ones to live the life we did.

So mitigations then - to prevent them from becoming one of the sadly many Long Covid newly disabled. Like this is unfortunate young man.

Likewise reduce their risk of suffering devastating unnecessary bereavement.

We're all 'done with' Covid. But as Covid isn't done with us, we need to try to 'live with' it... without being killed or disabled by it. Hence mitigations that allow us to get on with life as best we can. Masks, vaccine passes, good ventilation including HEPA filters. That is, if we want to 'live with it'.

southeastdweller · 21/01/2022 21:43

Covid isn't done with us

Wow - it took a whole hour!

Tealightsandd · 21/01/2022 21:43

I love that you're so 'done with' it, OP, that you started a brand new shiny thread...to talk about it...Hmm

Sparklingbrook · 21/01/2022 21:43

But as Covid isn't done with us

You called it @southeastdweller, you must claim your prize. Grin

Cross post! It did take a bit longer than normal-things are looking up.

The prize is.... an FFP2 mask 😷

That's not happening though. We're ditching it all next week. You're going to have to deal with it.
Sparklingbrook · 21/01/2022 21:48

What a pointless prize. I think @southeastdweller deserves way better.

thenightsky · 21/01/2022 21:48

Totally agree OP

Just because bad things are happening in this country, doesn't mean it has to be condoned.
