Who is planning to ditch masks as soon as we are legally allowed?

Is anyone else planning to ditch the masks asap? The only reason I wear one atm is because of the legal mandate and it will go as soon as that's dropped.

If you are staunchly pro-mask then this is probably not the thread for you! I know all the arguments on both side and they have been fully rehearsed on this board for the last 2 years. I am simply interested to gauge how many people also want to ditch masks asap, when the law allows.

It would be fab if we could have a thread on this topic that didn't include the words- selfish, it's no hardship, why wouldn't you?, we're in a pandemic ffs, I wear my mask to protect others etc.... that's lovely, and we already know!

Wonder how political this is too, Boris trying to make everyone love him

Monsterathai · 19/01/2022 13:27

@toomuchlaundry

Interesting that so many of you had already ditched them, just been to do my weekly shop and I would say only one person I saw wasn’t wearing one
Exactly the same where I am- pretty much 100% compliance- which is why I'm so happy!

It's very political but I honestly don't give a shit! They. Have. Gone!!
Ilovetommycat · 19/01/2022 13:28

For the people who have had to wear them continuously at their workplace it must be so difficult.
I have always worn one but I am lucky enough not to spend much time in crowded places.
In medical settings, particularly GP surgeries, I think the additional hygiene arrangements should continue. How many times have you seen people coughing and spluttering into their hands and then touching all surfaces?

JuergenSchwarzwald · 19/01/2022 13:30

@toomuchlaundry

Will they still be required in health settings?
I would imagine so. Can't imagine my dentist will say you don't need them anymore. Not even allowed to use my own well fitting mask, I have to use one of their oversized disposable ones.

Also the hairdressers.

I bet there will be loads of places that still require them.

I will still wear them on the train.

Wizzbangfizz · 19/01/2022 13:30

Personal choice and risk assessment back eh?! Who would have thought it! Smile

TenoringBehind · 19/01/2022 13:30

Thrilled at the news!

I wear glasses and have really been struggling with the steaming up problem, particularly since the weather has turned colder.

I will still wear them where requested (medical settings) or if I’m in the company of somebody anxious about things.

toomuchlaundry · 19/01/2022 13:30

I think I will still wear them in GP surgeries. Grim germ places and also liked not having to sit close to other ill people! I assume that will go too

Ipadflowers · 19/01/2022 13:31

I don’t like wearing one so will ditch, but fully expect for some folks to wear them much longer until they feel personally comfortable

And Clearly the general public are GREAT at that Hmm
DillDanding · 19/01/2022 13:32

I also suspect Boris is trying a bit of damage limitation here, but I’m still really happy to ditch masks.

toomuchlaundry · 19/01/2022 13:32

Think it will also depend on the number of cases there are in you area.

My elderly DM might not feel comfortable going shopping whilst rates are so high where she lives

toomuchlaundry · 19/01/2022 13:34

@Mrbob that’s how we end up with so many cases when people are left to their own risk assessment!

RhubarbTea · 19/01/2022 13:37

Me, I flipping hate them.

Blubells · 19/01/2022 13:38

I'm pleased to be able to ditch my mask.

Anyone can continue to wear theirs if they want to - they're not becoming illegal.

Blubells · 19/01/2022 13:39

that’s how we end up with so many cases when people are left to their own risk assessment!

Cases are thankfully coming down.

Wizzbangfizz · 19/01/2022 13:39

The people that want to wear them can wear them - their own personal choice and acceptance of risk.... as it should be.

Butteryflakycrust83 · 19/01/2022 13:41

No, because this move is such an obvious ploy to save Bojos skin.

Cases are no doubt coming down because they removed the need to have a PCR test, knowing full well people don't report LFT.

I will wear my mask on public transport because people asap whole are disgusting creatures.

tigger1001 · 19/01/2022 13:41

I can't wait to ditch the mask. But I'm in Scotland so no doubt that will be a long way off.

zen1 · 19/01/2022 13:47

Yes I’ll be ditching it ASAP. I don’t believe they make that much difference to the number of cases anyway (unless everyone wears an FFP3).

zafferana · 19/01/2022 13:47

Me OP! Just heard the announcement that we only have one more week to go and we can ditch them again. Hoorah!

7Worfs · 19/01/2022 13:48

Just don’t wear it, your local gov rely on scaremongering everyone into obedience, but have no way to actually enforce it. People are holding the whips they are being oppressed with.
Blubells · 19/01/2022 13:49

Cases are actually coming down, as the ONS survey shows.

They're also falling in France and did in South Africa. That's what generally happens after a sharp spike.

Exactly. And by the looks of it everyone on here has a short enough attention span for it to work.
Thinkbiglittleone · 19/01/2022 13:51

I wear a mask because I have done my research and I believe it helps prevent the spread, not because Boris Johnson tells me to, so I will weigh it up at the time, but yes I will probably continue to do so.
