Refusing services to unvaccinated. What are your thoughts?

TheChip · 16/01/2022 12:25

I'm just curious to hear of people's thoughts on this.
I have currently been refused a service due to being unvaccinated, in the UK. Its not a service that would require close proximity like a hairdresser, but in the same space for a period of time.

My thoughts on it are while I understand and respect people's choices and comfort levels, I do find it hard to grasp when the virus is both passed between those vaccinated or unvaccinated. Even if you throw in the comments about how vaccination reduces transmission, it is still transmissible.

I would have been more than willing to LFT before every contact, and wear a mask. But this wasn't an option. Which I guess is the part I find most difficult to understand. That they would be comfortable and willing to be around those vaccinated, possibly even without testing. Which I'd expect testing to be expected for both vaccinated and unvaccinated for someone who is clearly so uncomfortable.

So yeah, what are your thoughts

I think it's completely legitimate for a business to refuse to allow unvaccinated clients, particularly in such close quarters as a driving instructor. Exceptions for people who are allergic to the vaccine or can't receive it because of immune issues etc. No exception for people who are afraid of needles, have health anxiety etc.

LumosSolem · 18/01/2022 17:32

And like I said @TheChip, I don't believe in mandatory vaccine and support your right to remain unvaccinated- it should never be forced. But with choices come consequences.

MrsGaskthrill · 18/01/2022 17:50

@LumosSolem it was very clearly explained at one point that the risk of AZ DID outweigh the benefit for under 40s particularly for women. That’s why they gave Pfizer to under 40s. So your taking it was illogical although not as it turns out incorrect, because you weren’t the one in 250,000 who died from a clot

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 18/01/2022 17:53

No exception for people who are afraid of needles, have health anxiety etc.

Why is someone suffering from a severe phobia or anxiety less worthy than someone with an allergy? I presume mental health issues don't count.

TheChip · 18/01/2022 17:56

I suffer from agoraphobia, so my chances of catching covid are lower.
So for me, I feel that I am more at risk from an adverse reaction from the vaccine than I am covid.

@MrsGaskthrill I didn't have much choice because I was vaccinated with AZ about a week or ten days before they changed it from over 30s to over 40s- so at that exact point in time there was nothing illogical about my decision.

Even when the advice changed, I didn't worry about it much. I could do nothing about it at that point anyway and have admittedly made far more reckless and illogical decisions when younger anyway 😁

KeepingAnOpenMind · 18/01/2022 17:57

So many adverse reactions.
Hang in their OP!

MrsGaskthrill · 18/01/2022 17:59

Haha yes @LumosSolem I’m sure I have too!

My needle phobia is severe to the point that no HCP will come at me with a needle as it would be too dangerous for both of us. I am not seeking an exemption though, as I think with all restrictions coming to an end, there will be no point.

If you have driving lessons you will be in close contact with someone who is regularly in close contact with other people, particularly older teenagers so not particularly low chance of catching covid.
TheChip · 18/01/2022 18:10

Theyd have to have it before being able to pass it on to me, and even if I did get, there is a chance I'd have minimal to no symptoms.

I've thought about all of this. I still come back to feeling like I'd be at more risk from adverse reactions from the vaccine than I would covid.

The issue seems to be whether it was a party or a work event, however, were work events even happening in May 2020. I'm pretty sure that we were still social distancing and working from home if we could. Pretty sure nobody was having work events.

Lifeisforliving1 · 18/01/2022 18:15

Sorry. Wrong thread

MrsGaskthrill · 18/01/2022 18:25

Gosh @MistressoftheDarkSide I’ve just found your other thread. Wishing you and your DH well. I’m amazed you can be so coherent under the circumstances.

Sherrystrull · 18/01/2022 19:33

@TheChip

I dont think that is fair. I think many of those who have taken the vaccine have took it because they feel it will benefit them. It has not been for "the greater good". Yes, some will have, but there are plenty, and you see them on these boards all of the time, who have only got it for travel reasons. So it's not even because they think it will benefit their health in some cases!

But all of that is accepted just because they have taken a vaccine. That means they are good and selfless. Where as people with genuine concerns over this vaccine who are hesitant on taking it, are dismissed, accused of getting information on facebook and are somehow selfish. There are valid concerns, whether people want to believe it not.

Your concerns are valid to you. The driving instructors concerns are valid to them. You don't need to understand them any more than anyone else needs to understand your reasons.
TheChip · 18/01/2022 19:35

@MrsGaskthrill

Thank you.

Coherence diminishing rapidly. Visiting at 3pm tomorrow. It will be unlimited. After a meeting with the consultant and to see what happens when intubation stops.

Maybe I'll get a miracle.

@MistressoftheDarkSide - I just saw your other post too. I'm really sorry to hear about what you and your DP have been going through. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow and sending lots of positive thoughts your way. Xx

@MistressoftheDarkSide I am so sorry to hear this, and sending you and your DH everything good x

@mathanxiety

I must say it is interesting to see how ill informed unvaccinated individuals are. It only takes a few minutes on a search engine to disprove these false ideas.

This is how they end up choosing not to be vaccinated in the first place.

That’s speculation and not necessarily true. FYI you can find research papers and ONS statistical data via Google. How else do you expect laypeople to find information quickly? It’s not the same as reading disinformation on FB and YT.
user01837901 · 19/01/2022 08:27

@MistressoftheDarkSide good luck too x

Xenia · 19/01/2022 11:00

Just as pro vaccinated people differ between themselves so do unvaccinated ones. I have not had the vaccine. I don't think I am particularly uninformed and I have never said the vaccine doesn't work.

TooToxic · 19/01/2022 11:04

Last time I checked, this was a free country & the decision to take the vaccine was a personal one. That this business is engaging in vaccine apartheid is shocking!
