Refusing services to unvaccinated. What are your thoughts?

I'm just curious to hear of people's thoughts on this.
I have currently been refused a service due to being unvaccinated, in the UK. Its not a service that would require close proximity like a hairdresser, but in the same space for a period of time.

My thoughts on it are while I understand and respect people's choices and comfort levels, I do find it hard to grasp when the virus is both passed between those vaccinated or unvaccinated. Even if you throw in the comments about how vaccination reduces transmission, it is still transmissible.

I would have been more than willing to LFT before every contact, and wear a mask. But this wasn't an option. Which I guess is the part I find most difficult to understand. That they would be comfortable and willing to be around those vaccinated, possibly even without testing. Which I'd expect testing to be expected for both vaccinated and unvaccinated for someone who is clearly so uncomfortable.

So yeah, what are your thoughts

But their vaccinated pupils are just as much likely to infect them as I am. If not more so if they aren't being asked to test beforehand.

@User6397254

Hopefully they will lose their livelihood then
Why should they? Confused
Croissantly · 16/01/2022 13:00

It's probably more down to isolation and missing lessons. Someone vaccinated only has to isolate if they test positive, someone unvaccinated has to isolate potentially numerous times and so cancel their lessons, sounds like a pain when so many are looking for lessons currently and they can easily find someone else.

AnneElliott · 16/01/2022 13:01

As it's a private business then I don't disagree with it. There are other driving instructors you can go to I assume?

I wouldn't agree with a public service that you had no choice but to use to have such a rule.

SilverontheTree · 16/01/2022 13:02

I would want to know why you are unvaccinated. If you have a good medical exemption it would be different compared to if you’re just being an idiot. HTH

Sparklingbrook · 16/01/2022 13:03

Yes of the unvaccinated has to isolate)when a vaccinated person wouldn’t have to) then they’re going to be cancelling lessons.

Kshhuxnxk · 16/01/2022 13:03

Private businesses can do what they want and should be able to do so. Personally I wouldn't use them however I fully support their right to choose just as I fully support the right for people to choose whether to vaccinate or not.

AlexaShutUp · 16/01/2022 13:03

I don't think public services should be denied to anyone, regardless of their vaccination status. However, if it's a private business, then I think you have to respect their right to choose.

You had a choice about whether to have the vaccine but you don't get to decide how others will feel about that choice.

Sparklingbrook · 16/01/2022 13:04

If you were a pupil would you want your instructor to be vaccinated? Many would.

Svara · 16/01/2022 13:04

It may never happen though. I've never had to isolate as a contact, neither has my teen.
TheChip · 16/01/2022 13:04

That is a good point about unvaccinated needing to isolate, ultimately disrupting lessons.

As for reasons why one is unvaccinated, that really shouldn't be relevant. They either have an issue with unvaccinated or they don't. I dont think a medical exemption should really matter. Especially if it is a case of not wanting the disruption caused by the isolation period of an unvaccinated person.

It never occurs to me to ask someone whether they're vaccinated or not.

Really? In an enclosed car sitting next to each other, regular talking.

Toanewstart22 · 16/01/2022 13:08

I don’t think they should be refused

But I think they shouldn’t be allowed to raven abroad

That will have many of them running to get vaccinated come June

User6397254 · 16/01/2022 13:09

What happens in June

Svara · 16/01/2022 13:09

Same here. If someone was worried about catching Covid then surely they would be happier with an instructor who regularly tested?

FflosFfantastig · 16/01/2022 13:10

I think it's absolutely ridiculous OP. People have lost the plot and Government has encouraged the madness.

Toanewstart22 · 16/01/2022 13:11

Well of course it wouldn’t op

There is a difference though. A hairdresser physically touches you, is in and around your face, asks you to remove your mask and in a room that is often unventilated. In a car you can have the windows open, are a small distance apart and masked. A hairdresser is at a higher risk imo

That's not true actually. It's less likely on both fronts if vaccinated. Not saying it's right but still can see their reasoning to keep themselves safe
Svara · 16/01/2022 13:14

They really ought to say 'no unvaccinated' on the advert or website or at first contact with a potential customer. People need to be made aware of their stance.

Moonbabysmum · 16/01/2022 13:14

So sitting, in an enclosed area, for a prolonged period, about 1m apart.

They sound totally reasonable to me.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 16/01/2022 13:14

You had a choice about whether to have the vaccine but you don't get to decide how others will feel about that choice.

Can we sticky this on all Covid vacc threads?

GemGEmGemster · 16/01/2022 13:15

I avoid unvaccinated people because I think they are selfish and I wouldn’t want them as clients either, if I could choose.

Shitfuckcommaetc · 16/01/2022 13:16

How ridiculous.

It's a shame no one cared so much about who had the flu vaccine each year. Think of all the lives that could have been saved.

If the vaccine stopped transmission I could understand this lynch mob mentality.
