Do you still agree with mandatory vaccines for NHS?

Not doing this to goad and completely respectful of people’s choices. But genuinely interested in opinions and any research that people are aware of.

At this point in time I am struggling to think of family and friends that do not have covid right now. Some are triple vaccinated, some are unvaccinated. There does not seem to be any distinct differences between how easily it was transmitted or how ill the individuals are - according to their vaccination status.

Example:
My DP is triple jabbed - he has had covid twice (once after 2 jabs, the second time after booster). More ill the second time, but still mild.

His (NHS) department is currently shut down with the amount of (triple jabbed) staff off sick with covid.

I caught covid from him.

I am unvaccinated - have had covid twice. Been unpleasant but not hospitalised. The second time milder than the first.

I am on mat leave but due to return to my NHS role.

Why am I still being forced to be vaccinated?

please do not say ‘just find another job’. That is not the point of my thread

Perfectly put.

Oh dear I'm telling my eldest, who has a 1st class honours degree in forensic biology. She is getting very annoyed with the tripe people are coming out with on here.

underneaththeash · 05/01/2022 21:03

Yes.

underneaththeash · 05/01/2022 21:04

It’s not going to go away OP and if you were any sort of clinician you’d have your vaccine and not put your older patients at extra risk

Jenala · 05/01/2022 21:05

Of course you shouldn't be. The only argument for all NHS staff to be vaccinated is to protect others. The vaccines don't stop transmission nearly enough to effectively protect others, therefore a policy mandating them for staff is nonsensical.

The vaccines work well at preventing serious illness and I would encourage anyone elderly, obese or with another comorbidity to have the jab to protect themselves. Unfortunately they don't protect others as much as we hoped.

I don't understand why this is such a controversial opinion to some people. The fact the jabs aren't particularly preventing infection is plain to see, so what is the argument for mandates in any profession?

Yes I've had more pricks in the past year, than I have had in 11 yrs Smile

herecomesthsun · 05/01/2022 21:11

as the actress said to the bishop

Kshhuxnxk · 05/01/2022 21:15

No and I never did, nor will I ever. Fair enough the mandatory vaccines required when you start a job and no issues for new staff but definately not for current staff.

Disclaimer - fully vaccinated plus boosted - but very anti-mandatory

GoodnightGrandma · 05/01/2022 21:16

Yes.
If you don’t like it there’s other places to work.

Puremule · 05/01/2022 21:25

NOBODY should be forced to take a vaccine. End of.

GiftWrappingLikeItsXmasEve · 05/01/2022 21:42

@MyMoneyIsAllSpent

I'm not prepared to inject my body with an unknown substance from a manufacturer who can't be held responsible for any dire consequences. I mean, who would do this? I've never had a flu vaccine, never had the flu. If you need to maintain social distancing and wear a mask for protection, why is it necessary to stick a probe so far up your nose to see if you are positive? If this virus is so dangerous and contagious why do I see discarded masks on the ground, surely, they are spreading infection?
It’s not an “unknown substance” the ingredients are on the side.

Who would do this? Well most people for whom the risk of vaccine is less than the risk of covid.

A nasal swab is standard for flu/other viral tests. These were done before covid. A sputum sample is a good test too (but obviously limited to people who have sputum to cough up).

You breathe out through your nose and the virus can be transmitted. This is very basic /logical.

Yes discarded masks are not a good idea. If someone had covid and left the mask breathed on mask on the ground, it wouldn’t be a good idea to lift it and breathe through it yourself.

hangonamo · 05/01/2022 22:08

There does not seem to be any distinct differences between how easily it was transmitted or how ill the individuals are - according to their vaccination status.

Luckily these decisions are being based on actual scientific data, not just "people I know".

Honestly people who are still trotting out the lie that vaccination doesn't make any difference to transmission are my least favourite anti vaxxers. YES IT DOES.

WonderfulYou · 05/01/2022 22:10

Risk? I have had covid twice, and survived

That’s ok then.
As long as you’re alright why should you care about anyone else.
It’s not like you are in contact with anyone already vulnerable.

I can guarantee you if you caught it and were ill with it you’d be rushing out to get the vaccination.

Nothing more annoying that when people are loud telling everyone not to get the vaccination and then all of a sudden change their minds and expects everyone else to, when they or someone they know is seriously ill with it.

Bluntness100 · 05/01/2022 22:11

It’s curious but your op is all about you, there is no comment on yout risk of transmitting to others and the vulnerable in hospital. It’s simoly about you and the impacts on you.

It’s not about you. It’s about others, and yes, I support that anyone who remains unvaccinated through choice needs to leave.

New technology. Nazis. Nuremberg Bad pharma Do your own research.

Really don't know where to start with the lack of critical thinking and poor reasoning here!
DSGR · 05/01/2022 22:15

Yes 100%. Get another job if you don’t like it

WonderfulYou · 05/01/2022 22:17

I’d be interested to see how many vaccines the brainwashed would get. Will you still be queuing up for number 15? For the Timbuktu variant...

Do you understand how vaccines work?

Why do you think getting vaccines are dangerous but getting covid isn’t?
when it’s the same thing but the vaccines are lower doses so you don’t have as many side effects, hence they’re safer.

Bluntness100 · 05/01/2022 22:40

If we look back over history most pandemics last two years. We are coming to the end of this one, it’s been two years, but science and vaccines have saved so many lives, the Spanish flu took about twenty million people.

But there is a small minority of people who think not about the bigger picture, but about how does it impact me and me alone.

As witnessed by the op.

Bluntness100 · 05/01/2022 22:42

Exactly this. You have put it way more succinctly than I have

So Ill informed. I hope you’re not clinical staff, but sone admin somewhere.

OppsUpsSide · 05/01/2022 22:45

No I don’t

shoopashoop · 05/01/2022 22:52

@Bluntness100 both your assumptions of me are incorrect.
As for the ‘some admin staff somewhere’ comment....take your rudeness elsewhere

shoopashoop · 05/01/2022 22:56

I have also discussed transmission in my OP
