Just seen on Sky New there is a news conference tonight at 5, interested to know what will be said...

There hasn’t been the usual rumblings “leaked documents” etc so hopeful just an update, what do we all think?

Saucery · 04/01/2022 14:42

Why would cinema chains be told before anyone else? Grin.

@rainbowandglitter

Twitter are saying that cinemas have stopped taking bookings from Friday so it looks like restrictions from Friday. This is just what twitter is saying - not me.
I doubt the cinema industry would be the first to know. I've had to stay off twitter this last week for my own sanity.

I think he's determined to not impose restrictions come what may and it'd take something quite drastic to sway the course now.

My friend posted about that, unable to book anything for next week

For once give some good news to teachers and say Ofsted visits can be cancelled until we can full staff our schools?

Watercoloursky · 04/01/2022 14:44

Call my cynical, but if there's nothing new to announce, it's probably been arranged to give journalists something else to talk about and keep Keir Starmer's big speech off the evening news...

Saucery · 04/01/2022 14:45

My local ‘destination pub’ are closed until mid-Jan. Announced before Christmas. Maybe they were told, along with cinemas, in advance of everyone else Hmm

Biscuitandacuppa · 04/01/2022 14:46

Just had a look at Odeon’s website and there are no booking’s available from Friday so I suspect they are shutting cinemas.

Aposterhasnoname · 04/01/2022 14:47

Loving the idea that cinemas have all been told lockdown is coming, but it hasn’t leaked to the press 😂😂😂

Neurodiversitydoctor · 04/01/2022 14:49

It would'nt be just cinemas though would it ? Old tier 3 no indoor hospitality ?

I’m not sure the people on Twitter have thought it through
GirlInACountrySong · 04/01/2022 14:51

i just tried to book cinema for fri...won't let me. maybe some truth in that then!

now i'm worried

Sassenach85 · 04/01/2022 14:51

That is so weird, my mums cousin in America mentioned randomly about cinemas there having no movies on! How odd!

Wingingit15 · 04/01/2022 14:53

Wow…every cinema brand near me also shows nothing from Thursday night

RedToothBrush · 04/01/2022 14:53

@ItsSnowJokes

No restrictions. They haven't "leaked" them to get the public response, which they always do.

This will be a its going to be tough, but keep up the good work bollocks that they spout.

This.

Lots of thanks to the 'hard working NHS staff' claptrap which no one really thinks is genuine anymore.

I think it will stress caution still (its your responsibility to protect yourself and you have no one to blame but yourself if you catch covid because I have backbenchers to answer to).

And stuff about numbers still going up.

I think ahead of the presser it is worth just reminding that London has less vaccinated people but its also a younger population. It also has the highest number of beds/doctors per patient. So all the stuff about what is happening in London should be taken with a pinch of salt as it will play out differently elsewhere (especially with schools now back).

Oh year I bet schools going back will also come up. They won't close the schools. Classes can merge if the head teacher allows it (in other words blame the school for not merging classes if your child is sent home due to lack of staffing - without thinking of the viability of how the hell you get two classes of 30 into a room with enough chairs, tables and space to work and still be safe from a fire safety pov).

Johnson will say soothing things about milder disease and encouraging numbers whilst Whitty and who ever else is with him look very uncomfortable and then get some slides up contradicting him and saying its still very precarious and could get very bad very quickly still and we shouldn't just focus on the milder bit.

We will all get told to use lots of lateral flows but Johnson will fail to properly answer the inevitable question from journalist about availability of lft and will just bluster about priority to health care workers and increased supply soon (which does fuck all to help anyone who hasn't managed to get any recently and has none left).

Anyway you now no longer need to watch at 5pm cos that covers it all!

Isn't Spiderman quite a new film? only on until 6th (thurs) here...checked all other films - you're right, nothing at all after 6th.

HMS Leaky strikes again!

Saucery · 04/01/2022 14:55

Well, they’ve blamed sitting down on a bench eating a bag of crisps for Covid spread in the past, so maybe they need another scapegoat and that’s overpriced Pic N Mix and tutting loudly at people on their phone all the way through James Bond.

the80sweregreat · 04/01/2022 14:55

Looked up my nearest cinema online to pretend to book a film and after Thursday it's goes grey and I can't book anything up at all! This is in the south east.

Wingingit15 · 04/01/2022 14:56

The week after - plenty

Verite1 · 04/01/2022 14:56

Why do people post such nonsense without checking. You can book cinema tickets next week - I have checked.

the80sweregreat · 04/01/2022 14:57

Could be my phone or that film is fully booked .

Worldgonecrazy · 04/01/2022 14:57

The cinema thing seems to have some kernel of truth. Checked a few Odeons and nothing booking after this Thursday (6th) until next Friday (14th). Local large Cineworld nothing from this Thursday until the following Friday (14th)for that weekend then nothing until 27th. I can understand the cinemas only opening Friday to Sunday but is strange they are not open this weekend.

Anyone in the cinema world able to enlighten us?

MarshaBradyo · 04/01/2022 14:57

You can see The Matrix in Brighton Cineworld during month and next

Just picked random

Watercoloursky · 04/01/2022 14:57

I've looked on Twitter at the cinema thing - no conspiracy, at least two companies (Showcase and Cineworld) have said that it's because yesterday was a bank holiday, and they're still updating their listings for the coming days.

@ShowcaseCinemas
Hi, as it was a Bank Holiday yesterday, film times are being scheduled today for the following Friday through to Thursday. Please check the website on later today / this evening for the most up-to-date screening times. Thanks, SC

Cineworld Cinemas
@cineworld
Hi Harry, we're updating our listings for the week ahead as we speak- if you check back later today we'll have listings for Saturday available for you
