Against another lockdown?

I know it is back bench pressure keeping us from where wales and Scotland are going to be/are. Due to that though I think we have a chance of coming through this - seeing it out and hopefully getting on with it on 2022 (I'd except back to tables in hospitality) - especially in light of the 10-7 days isolation reduction now?

Once you hitch your wagon to zero covid policies, common sense goes out of the window. Calling you out Ardern, Australia, and ezpecially China!

As none of those countries has zero number of covid cases what are you talking about? What is wrong with protecting your citizens from the worst effects until mitigations are in place? That's not hitching your wagon to zero covid policies, just common sense.

JuergenSchwarzwald · 23/12/2021 21:27

The Times is reporting that Omicron is 70% less likely to lead to hospitalisations but the vaccine effectiveness against starts to wane at 10 weeks.

MumbleCrumbs · 23/12/2021 21:46

Do you mean the booster Juergen?

Wizzbangfizz · 23/12/2021 22:25

@gofg because you can't? Not if we want to live in a global world - which I and many others do.

Im concerned by child hospitalisation right now highest its been the whole pandemic.
42 childre 0 to 5 yrs hospitalised in last 24 hrs.
In comparisson the highest in first wave was 19, second wave late jan 2021 was 32 and with a high of 33 recently with Delta.

Covidworries · 23/12/2021 22:38

Sorry that was yesterdays data. Todays date is 88 more children hospitalised due to covid in last 24 hrs

Covidworries · 23/12/2021 22:43

Applogies i read graph wrong 42 is age group 0 to 5 and 88 is age group 0 to 16

But still shows by far the highest admissions since the start of covid.

the80sweregreat · 23/12/2021 22:44

They are saying now on bbc 'news paper round up ' that it's unlikely any restrictions will be brought in for New Years.
Will be interesting to see if this is correct.

I just heard that

Feel relieved. Hope it sticks

paranoidnamechanger · 23/12/2021 22:49

Worrying news tonight in The Times about waning efficacy of the booster vaccine after ten weeks. I wonder if from next month the government are going to effectively blackmail us into having several vaccinations a year to avoid restrictions?

gofg · 23/12/2021 23:23

@Wizzbangfizz - maybe slow down and read my post properly before rushing in to comment. I'm still waiting to hear what is wrong with prioritising the health of your citizens.

Incidentally, all this angst on MN at the moment about people's Christmas being cancelled and worrying about what restrictions might come in afterwards - it aint happening here!

gofg · 23/12/2021 23:24

Also @Wizzbangfizz, your right to "live in a global world" doesn't trump other people's rights.

Does the data you are looking at confirm whether covid was the primary cause of admission?

If cases in the community are very high then there will be an increase in the number of admissions for other reasons where a covid infection is subsequently discovered. I think the latest data across hospitalisations generally suggests around 1 in 4 fall into this category. I'm not sure if there is separate reporting on this for paediatric admissions?

Covidworries · 24/12/2021 06:00

@sunshinegirl82

At least 80% admissions are primary cause covid

RoyalFamilyFan · 24/12/2021 09:32

My Trust has cancelled loads of elective operations. No one is going in for knee operations and then finding they have covid, as those operations are not happening. And people like my friend with cancer who has an operation planned that is not cancelled as it is urgent, are shielding and testing beforehand.
And people are not always admitted with covid even if that is the reason they are ill. So another friend was in the hospital for a week in the first lockdown as a direct result of covid. But she was admitted with pneumonia. Most people are admitted with what covid causes.

Yes ; but that is too subtle and complicated for the covid minimisers.
