Govt plans re unvaccinated feels like a change is afoot

Anyone noticed the govt and news sources seem to be covering more and more stories regarding the unvaccinated (by choice)
I feel they might be ramping up support for restrictions for unvaccinated people.
It's feel very much like propaganda and warm up the masses.
Anyone agree or noticed this in the last 3/4 days?

No. It would be a bit ridiculous unless they’re planning to restrict double vaccinated people too, given the current data on effectiveness against symptomatic infection with omicron.

I’m actually wondering if we’re going to start reducing restrictions if we see similar trends irt hospitalisations as we’ve seen from SA and Denmark. It’s looking quite promising.

Beautiful3 · 21/12/2021 14:31

Yes I agree with you. The government is trying to make society hate the unvaccinated. Apparently the unvaccinated are selfish and are responsible for the spread of corana. Well the unvaccinated can catch it and spread it too. Its all propaganda and dangerous. Over a hundred years ago the government told us that gays were bad, and the act illegal, imprisoning those caught. Before that they told us that slaves weren't human as they were animals. In retrospect we know government are obviously are not always right. But at the time, mass crowds accept what they say as gospel! Why? We must think for ourselves. I think for myself and would never hate anyone, regardless of what the government say. Look at what happened with Hitler, and his propaganda against the jews/disabled/deaf/jehovahs witnesses. Society needs to stop directing anger at certain people, just because the government tell us too.

GoodPrincessWenceslas · 21/12/2021 14:32

Are these new rules helping keep cases down in other European countries? Would be interesting to know.

Looking at their figures by comparison with ours, it looks like they are.

Subbaxeo · 21/12/2021 14:32

I’m all for vaccine passports. We accept documents like driving licences. We accept restrictions on our freedoms all the time for the greater public good. This is a public health issue. It’s for the protection of people who are unvaccinated as well as those who are. It’s a duty to get vaccinated to protect those who for medical reasons can’t be.

Whyevencare · 21/12/2021 14:32

@HelloMissus

I think we’re getting very close to the point where we deny treatment to the unvaccinated.

That's never going to happen.

Tittyfilarious81 · 21/12/2021 14:33

@HelloMissus

I think we’re getting very close to the point where we deny treatment to the unvaccinated. And before folks start saying - what about smokers, drinkers, fat people etc well actually, people in those groups are denied treatment all the time eg if you need an elective surgery you might be told no until you’ve lost weight/stopped smoking. And you won’t be offered a transplant if you’re still drinking.
Nobody should be denied treatment on the nhs and it's this disgusting attitude that worries me far more than covid
worriedatthemoment · 21/12/2021 14:33

Other european countries have different rules for the vaccinated and unvaccinated so why can't we

Incognito22333 · 21/12/2021 14:33

@WanderingFruitWonderer- I agree in part but these are the people who actually need to get the vaccine to protect them as a whole so being too liberal on them, including certain minorities in London, does not do them any favours. If it becomes mandatory, most will have the vaccine. Do you think certain Muslim women in London get to choose for themselves or their husband chooses whether they get the vaccine or not? Once it is mandatory they have no choice. I don’t see why certain uneducated vulnerable persons should be left out- I think it is more of a reason to make the vaccine mandatory.

Comparing unvaccinated people to the persecution of Jews in the Holocaust is offensive and ridiculous.

@worriedatthemoment

That's a pretty daft line of reasoning, in fairness.

Other people are doing it so we should too? What's the evidence that any of these 'rules' work? Not to mention the implications of creating a two-tier society.

Claudethecat · 21/12/2021 14:34

There is no comparison between being asked to provide proof of vaccine or a negative covid test to get into a nightclub and genocide. Get over yourself.

HelloMissus · 21/12/2021 14:36

flowerlane not really.
Fat people don’t get to skip their taxes, despite not being able to access various treatments.
Ditto smokers and drinkers (who arguably pay more tax than the average punter).

worriedatthemoment · 21/12/2021 14:36

@AdmiralCain but i thought it was supposed to reduce the risk so any reduction is better than none from a population point
Its also reduces the risk of hospitalisation which then helps the nhs its all relative on a population level

StrongSunglasses · 21/12/2021 14:37

I don’t know anyone in real life who think this is in any way appropriate, reasonable or proportionate.

People just want to revert to normal normal, not some crazy illogical dystopia.

Incognito22333 · 21/12/2021 14:37

The NHS is meant to be equal for all and all get a free vaccine. However, in practice we have seen more of the richer and educated groups come straight forward to have it and the marginalised groups be left behind.

It is a Torie right leaning government that doesn’t want to protect the vulnerable - a left leaning government goes for more state control and protection of the poor and vulnerable, it is the right wing Tory back benchers putting the right of the individual to choose above the greater good of society and the poor and vulnerable. Liberal and right wing politics won’t work well in a pandemic. Survival of the fittest is misplaced here.

worriedatthemoment · 21/12/2021 14:40

@IcedPurple because many people have compared what we haven't done to europe all along or other countries yet suddenly its an issue
Whats the big deal anyway you either have a covid pass or proof of negative test, so still accessible to all
Loads on here shouted that we should have masks because others did
Mumsnet is also very anti brexit yet if we were still in the eu how do we know it won't be a eu rule long term
I can also put any reason i like down

BarleyMop · 21/12/2021 14:40

If it’s a choice between restrictions for everyone/a lockdown, or restrictions for unvaccinated people, I’d happily vote restrictions for the unvaccinated. We all want to get back to normal as soon as we can.

Nancydrawn · 21/12/2021 14:42

Could everyone please stop comparing people who have chosen not to take a life-saving vaccine to the Jews who were murdered in a racial genocide

Thank you.

🤞🏻 It might

You can. But it's still a pretty silly reason.

worriedatthemoment · 21/12/2021 14:42

@IncessantNameChanger how is that the nhs fault ? Richer people didn't get first dibs on the vaccine and lots has been done to encourage certain communities who are reluctant
The vaccination is one thing they have got right and its been accessible for all
I live in a council house I wasn't at the back of the queue for a vaccine because of that though

I would vote certain restrictions. So passes for theatre, gigs, restaurants/cafes, nightclubs, museums and anything in the optional category. No passes for medical treatment, doctor's appointments, supermarkets, pharmacies and anything in the essential category.
worriedatthemoment · 21/12/2021 14:44

@IcedPurple but they must be doing it for a reason and as neither you or I have all the data all the modelling etc, there will be reasons we just might not be privy to them
My comment was more for so long everyone has compared us until we bring something in that doesn't suit them

worriedatthemoment · 21/12/2021 14:45

@CaliforniaDrumming I think that is what it will be
Possibly drs / hospital if non urgent may require a test before
