Govt plans re unvaccinated feels like a change is afoot

Anyone noticed the govt and news sources seem to be covering more and more stories regarding the unvaccinated (by choice)
I feel they might be ramping up support for restrictions for unvaccinated people.
It's feel very much like propaganda and warm up the masses.
Anyone agree or noticed this in the last 3/4 days?

I haven’t read the whole thread but to add my thoughts…

ICU are mainly full with unvaccinated people. This is creating unnecessary pressure on the nHS

Some of you aren’t getting vaccinated for mental health reasons. Please spare a thought for the ICU staff who are daily having to deal with death and illness that could quite possibly have been avoided. Do not underestimate the massive mental strain this has put upon staff. Staff who are tired beyond belief, staff who have ptsd.

If we lock down it’ll be because of the demand on nhs services. No one is saying that vaccinated people aren’t spreading or getting the virus but they are less likely to need hospitalisation.

StrongSunglasses · 21/12/2021 15:25

Don’t the people gagging for vaccine passports realise that wherever they’ve been implemented it’s made zero difference and still resulted in additional restrictions. Just baying for a totalitarian and pointless system; it’s actually embarrassing for you.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/12/2021 15:27

They should treat them but bill them. They’re not complying with public health measures.

Disabilities preventing the vaccine wouldn’t be included.

Everyone is sick to teeth of their life and freedom being held ransom by antivaxxers

Yes. It's gleeful malice. Embarrassing.

Unsure33 · 21/12/2021 15:28

We are way behind other countries on this . I would rather see the Italian green pass system for work than compulsory vaccination.

It’ll make a difference when they’re ramped up more and are only allowed to go to essential places.

Hopefully easing the pressure right off ICU 🤞

As long as BoJo remains at the helm, I really don’t see it happening. He’s quite the libertarian which is why he agonised over going into (comparatively loose) lockdown in the first place in March 2020.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/12/2021 15:32

To be fair, Boris is always behind Europe in this.

Didn’t Macron implementing vaccine passports improve French vaccination rates?

Just need to see off thise wankers in the CRG

ShinyHappyPoster · 21/12/2021 15:32

@Rocaille

Vaccine passports will disproportionately impact people of colour. In some of the most diverse London boroughs, vaccination rates are not much over 40%. Will the government do an equalities impact assessment on vaccine passports? I doubt it.
Yy but the 'posters' wanting to push the reckless, selfish line don't really care about other people. They are quite happy for minority and vulnerable groups to be disproportionately affected. And they're happy to push a mentality that blames the public rather than the Govt for the state of the NHS. Whilst also pushing a mentality that says people can be excluded from healthcare if they don't fit certain boxes. It's all about softening people up for a private healthcare system whilst trying to create social division so no-one can adequately challenge the ineptitude of the government. What's surprising to me is that the MN demographic isn't usually susceptible to that type of messaging - yet it's all over threads here lately. Because, MN generally is well aware of differences in privilege; the failings in the healthcare system; the problems facing DCs with vulnerabilities, etc. And, also well aware of history - and history shows pushes to authoritarianism, othering and division - only ever benefit governments - and usually has awful consequences for everyone else.

The mandatory vax zealots got any ideas how we plug the gap caused by up to 125,000 NHS staff leaving as a result of the forthcoming vax mandate?

You obviously like a functioning NHS do you not, Hmm.

How are we ‘way behind’ when these policies haven’t actually prevented huge surges in cases, increased hospitalisations and further restrictions/lockdowns in those countries that have been using them?

I have no problem being ‘way behind’ in introducing systems that don’t actually work and have negative impacts on society in general.

HelloMissus · 21/12/2021 15:37

If my social media is anything to go by, the unvaccinated are not marginalised.
They’re just average working class folk, mostly men, but not all.

ilovesooty · 21/12/2021 15:37

@Subbaxeo

I’m all for vaccine passports. We accept documents like driving licences. We accept restrictions on our freedoms all the time for the greater public good. This is a public health issue. It’s for the protection of people who are unvaccinated as well as those who are. It’s a duty to get vaccinated to protect those who for medical reasons can’t be.
I agree. I see no reason why the wilfully unvaccinated should have access to optional activities. If making life inconvenient for them reduces the likelihood of further lockdowns I'm in favour of it.
CovidCurious · 21/12/2021 15:38

@AnotherMansCause

Which vaccine app are people using, on iPhone? I can only see one, but it needs a barcode or QR code & I don’t have one, only my vaccine batch numbers, date taken, & my personal info etc. How are people getting the barcode? Or is there a different app?
@AnotherMansCause

It is the NHS app, not the NHS Covid app (which was set up for contact tracing, checking in to venues etc)

When you log in you arrive at the home page which shows your name, DOB and NHS number and immediately under that is an option to generate a Covid pass.

Below that is the section for viewing message, health record, ordering prescriptions etc

bumbleymummy · 21/12/2021 15:38

@BarleyMop

What about if that includes double vaccinated people too because two doses aren’t as effective at preventing infection from omicron? And then triple vaccinated (as Israel have done)? See where this goes?

@bumbleymummy I’m ok with annual vaccines like we do with flu, if it means life going back to normal. I’m also ok with 6 monthly boosters for a while, if it means life going back to normal. I find the thought of lockdowns etc constantly hanging over us totally depressing, and will accept a fair bit to resume a very close to normal life

Having 6 monthly boosters to entitle you to entry to a shop/bar/restaurant/ or to go to the cinema isn’t exactly ‘going back to normal’ is it?
ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/12/2021 15:42

Maybe it’s a near normal. Or as normal as can be managed.

Exactly this. I'd like to know how people who support locking down unvaccinated people suggest we keep the NHS up and running considering so many HCP have refused the vaccine.

I honestly dont see what choice we have, i dont agree! but we simply cannot afford another lockdown, not just financial either! but for all the other reasons stated on this thread, such as mental health and the kids educations, safe guarding ect.

Im generally pro choice, but i dont see what else we can do, the vaccines work! hence why we have had all this freedom for the last 6 months, yet less people have died. It doesnt matter how much people bang on about vaccines not stopping people catching it, or spreading it! the fact remains they save lives, one glance at the figures (even including those who died "with" covid rather than of) tells you that.

My eldest is currently postive, theyre have been double jabbed but were meant to be having a booster yesterday. Two younger DCs are also double jabbed and had their 2nd jabs early November. DH and myself had our boosters early November. So far despite no social distancing (including a 2 hour car journey, before they tested) at all the rest of us are negative.

I'm in agreement with that too. If people unvaccinated by choice want to maintain that stance they need to be restricted from optional activities if that's what is required to prevent lockdown being a continuing threat for everyone.
LynxGiftsetAndSocks · 21/12/2021 15:51

@MrsBillyNoJagNoMates no I'm not saying that otherwise I'd have .... said it!

I said 'from my observation'

Our door Marshall offers a mask to every unmasked customer, they often take offence and rant about us all being sheep/not having things put in their body/don't believe in covid or whatever....so we have to accept that

Johntoewba · 21/12/2021 15:51

Wow just wow

Crazycrazylady · 21/12/2021 15:52

I'm Irish and we have a very high vaccination rate at 94% of eligible adults and its definitely something that's in the water here already. Micheal O'Leary already touting that the unvaccinated shouldn't be allowed to fly to make it safer etc , Currently you need a vaccine cert to eat indoors in a restaurant or go to bar or cinema.
I honestly cant get that worked up about it if it means we get back to some semblance of normality a bit sooner.

Totally agree. I don’t love the idea of a vaccine passport in the greater sense m, however under the circumstances, we’re going to go round in circles for the foreseeable.

If that means turning people hand at making them vaccinate themselves then so be it. Everyone is so fucked off with this covid shit now, I’m passed caring about much else

Starcup · 21/12/2021 15:56

Too add, I generally don’t agree with healthy young adults been forced in to having the vaccine, however my dislike for Lockdown and restrictions trumps everything. So I’m just like, the more people that get vaccinated the better, especially the over 60’s, obese, smokers etc…

Could you please tell me what was all this freedom you had for last 6 months and suddenly don't have?
