Leicestershire, Cambridgeshire, Derbyshire, West Sussex

y-axis max at 1200. Rates on 26th - just a two day lag with a fair few more cases to add - in all instances either already above or only just below that on 24th.

This is an interesting graph - only up to 21st but illustrating nicely the "incidental" covid currently in hospital figures.

boys3 · 29/12/2021 11:44

Hampshire, Warwickshire, Suffolk, Staffordshire

Similar story to the previous graph. Although Suffolk interesting - peak so far on 23rd, so quite how the reporting lag plays through will be key.

1100 per 100,000 y-axis max

Norfolk, Northamptonshire, Cumbria, West Sussex

Rather like the graph with Lancashire Cumbria's trajectory most marked on this one. Although none of these four look to have peaked as yet.

Again 1100 y-axis max

All of which leaves six county areas with rates still in three figures.

Worcestershire, North Yorkshire and Lincolnshire - all on an upward path.

Finally Gloucestershire, Somerset and Devon

Devon the only county with a current rate lower, at the moment, than that on 6th December. Whilst note shown Torridge, highest rates in England a month ago now has the lowest. Again all three still to reach their peak.

Upper tier councils in the North West; again y-axis max varies between graphs. General conclusion that peak yet to be reached.

Here's a bit more detail about cases in older people which I raised yesterday but was accused of showing misleading data.

The shift of growth rate has clearly changed in the last couple of weeks.

Upper tiers in East Midlands. Very different profile for Nottingham - some of earliest Omicron cases if memory serves?

@BigWoollyJumpers source for that graph?

And their definition of "true covid cases"??

Piggywaspushed · 29/12/2021 12:48

Is that the same graph that Alison Pearson is misunderstanding on Twitter currently?

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/12/28/covid-hospital-data-should-treated-caution-many-patients-admitted/

True covid cases are assessed as being admissions of patients from A&E/Community for specific Covid-19 treatment.

RoyalFamilyFan · 29/12/2021 12:56

Everyone I know admitted to hospital because of covid wasn't admitted for covid but because of pneumonia for example caused by covid.

although full context might be helpful; percentage change plus absolute numbers / 7 day rates - given the older groups are starting from a much lower base.

The percentage increase is evident; however rates in those older age groups remain far lower than older age groups. How that continues to play out will be key.

far lower than younger age groups that should say

@RoyalFamilyFan

Everyone I know admitted to hospital because of covid wasn't admitted for covid but because of pneumonia for example caused by covid.
I think that would count as treatment for covid.

Be aware though that the graph is showing the percentage of the increase in cases which are due to covid, with incidental covid making up the rest of the increase. It's not the percentage of all hospital admissions which are due to covid (which is more stable and has fallen from around 80% to 70% in the last few weeks)

Firefliess · 29/12/2021 13:09

Thanks for that coloured table @boys3. It's really helpful seeing the rates and also the percentage change together. So rates highest in the 20-45 age groups. Still a lot lower in the oldest ages, but growing faster there as a proportion of what they were previously in those age groups.

sirfredfredgeorge · 29/12/2021 13:23

It's not the percentage of all hospital admissions which are due to covid (which is more stable and has fallen from around 80% to 70% in the last few weeks)

There is no published data on the above, and it's quite unlikely that the admissions happen to exactly match the London figures for patients in hospital at 8am.

lonelyplanet · 29/12/2021 13:58

I agree, which is why I linked the thread.

Thank you for the chart. It is easier to read than the graphs in the thread.
