Most EU countries that kept restrictions all summer are now seeing massive peaks so I’m not sure that really worked out for them. England are actually doing pretty well in comparison.
Please define ‘massive peaks’.
I’m in Germany. One of those countries that, according to UK media, is in a terrible situation right now despite all the restrictions.
The German national incidence peaked last week at 442 cases per 100k population. It’s already coming down and in the 420s right now.
The current UK national incidence is 488.2 - this is taken from the gov.uk data website. And it’s ever growing. And that’s lower than what it was in September/October... And Scotland is blue on the map, whereas most of England it’s purple - so England’s incidence is even higher than that.
Now I’d like to know, how is England, in your opinion, doing pretty well in comparison?
I’m not saying Germany is doing great. The numbers simply state that the UK is doing worse. The UK is doing worse than most of those countries reported to have massive peaks.
Yes, we’re having massive peaks compared with the ones we had last winter, but they’re all still well under the UK numbers, past or present. But that’s not what the UK media tells you, is it? Here in Germany we panic when we reach an incidence of 200. My friend’s LA education dept ditched masks in schools back in September when the local incidence was 900+.
I’m not making any of these numbers up. You can check them online, on reputable data sources. The media should check them out too, before giving selective information on how the EU is doing…
